Sony Music Seeks Court Order In Pursuit Of Unpaid Debt On Alan McGee Biopic ‘Creation Stories’
Image
Exclusive: Sony Music is chasing an unpaid debt from the producer of Creation Stories, the Danny Boyle executive-produced UK indie movie about record label founder Alan McGee.

Sony Music has issued Creation Stories Ltd with a “winding-up petition,” which in the UK is often the last resort taken by a creditor when attempting to recover debt. Sony is essentially seeking a court order to put Creation Stories into liquidation.

Creation Stories Ltd was a special-purpose vehicle through which Creation Stories was made. Its directors are Shelley Hammond and Hollie Richmond, who ran Burning Wheel Productions, which was ultimately credited with producing Creation Stories. Hammond and Richmond now run Herd International.

Creation Stories Ltd’s most recently filed accounts, for the year to April 30, 2021, showed that it owed creditors £502,408 and had debts of £79,813.

A Creation Stories spokesperson said: “The production was completed several years ago. Now that this issue has been brought to our attention,...

Shane Meadows Teams Up With ‘Adolescence’ Writer Jack Thorne for Feature Film Return
Image
After more than a decade-long hiatus from the big screen, Shane Meadows is making a return to cinema with a new film, Chork.

Penned by Adolescence writer Jack Thorne and set along the east coast of England, Chork follows 15-year-old Kit and 11-year-old Ani as they leave their foster home and trek across the coastline in hopes of a brighter future. With the police in pursuit and a national search underway, Kit must use all her determination and wits to protect Ani and fulfil their mission.

Cast by Meadows’ frequent collaborator, Shaheen Baig (Adolescence, Hot Milk), the two have secured the film’s lead cast with open casting calls taking place earlier in the year throughout the U.K.

“To be returning to film after 17 years, writing alongside ‘megadude’ Jack Thorne again, and working with so many gifted collaborators, has been an absolute privilege,” said Meadows. “Our story follows two beyond bright,...

Meet ‘Adolescence’ Star Owen Cooper, the First-Time Actor Who Gives the Year’s Most Haunting Performance
Image
The makers of Netflix’s limited series “Adolescence” started with a strong, disturbing theme: a violent act committed by a 13-year-old amid the pressures of a social-media culture that can foment alienation, misogyny and violence. They had a provocative format: four hour-long episodes that would take place in real time and in single, uninterrupted takes. They had a strong cast that was led by Stephen Graham, who was also co-creator and co-writer and exec-produced the series alongside formidable allies like Plan B’s Brad Pitt, Jeremy Kleiner and Dede Gardner.

What they didn’t have, though — and what they needed for “Adolescence” to work — was a young teenage boy who could play the mild-mannered Jamie Miller, who is arrested in the stabbing death of a female classmate. The part required an actor who could handle hour-long takes and persuade viewers that he was a naive kid falsely accused of a monstrous crime in one moment,...

Netflix's 'Adolescence' Is Expected To Surpass 'Stranger Things' in Viewership
Image
So many shows have come and gone on Netflix, some garnering attention but never enough to beat the series that took over the streaming site after it premiered in 2016, Stranger Things. That is, before Adolescence arrived. When the British crime drama premiered on March 13, 2025, it was almost instantly widely praised by critics and viewers. Now, it's set to become one of the streamer's most popular series ever.

According to Deadline, Adolescence is about to become the second most-watched English-language series of all time on Netflix. Its recent release caused an impact that already has viewers and critics wanting a follow-up. Not even a year into its release, it's on the brink of surpassing Stranger Things, which is almost unheard of for a brand-new show. In the past few weeks, it hasn't seen the top 10 of the streamer's weekly chart, but it has reached 140.2 million views in 75 days, with a lot...

‘Adolescence’s’ Stephen Graham Joins Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem in Florian Zeller’s ‘Bunker’ (Exclusive)
Image
Rolling off hit Netflix series ”Adolescence,” in which he starred and co-wrote, Stephen Graham will join Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem in “Bunker,” a psychological thriller from “The Father” director Florian Zeller. The project is being shopped by FilmNation at the Cannes Film Market.

Zeller, who is a world-acclaimed playwright, made a splash with his directorial debut, “The Father,” for Anthony Hopkins won a best actor Oscar in 2021. “Bunker” marks Zeller’s anticipated followup to the emotionally gripping “The Son,” and first full-on leap into the psychological thriller genre in which he dabbed with “The Father.”

“Bunker,” which he wrote for Cruz and Bardem, revolves around an architect who accepts a morally ambiguous project — building a survivalist bunker for a tech billionaire — and his wife, who begins to question their marriage after 17 years together. As with Zeller’s previous work, “Bunker” will delve into emotional and moral challenges, as well...

Why Netflix’s ‘Adolescence’ Had a ‘No Dicks’ Policy
Image
The golden rule to treat others as you would like to be treated doesn’t always hold true in life. But it was a necessity on “Adolescence.” The demands of shooting episode-length single takes require weeks of rehearsal and the kind of intuitive, balletic coordination we normally only see on sports fields – and unlike on a lot of sports teams and film sets, co-creator, executive producer, and star Stephen Graham was in a position to make sure there were no dicks on the team.

To its absolute credit, the Netflix miniseries is a meditation on the fallout after a 13-year-old boy (Owen Cooper) murders one of his female classmates (Emilia Holliday) rather than a whodunit or a breathlessly titillating true-crime rehash of the violent event. Speaking to IndieWire on an episode of the Filmmaker Toolkit Podcast, Graham said that the idea to interrogate how incel culture online leads to violence...

Shane Meadows in This Is England (2006)
Blackpool | Feature-length adaptation of short film in development
Shane Meadows in This Is England (2006)
Shane Meadows-approved short Blackpool might be getting a little longer… More on the very British indie below.

A short highlighting mental health and suicide awareness is being developed into a feature-length film, according to its creative team.

Set and shot in the West-coast seaside town, Blackpool stars Andrew Ellis (This Is England) and George Bukhari (Years and Years) as a couple of people (one dressed as a parrot) at the end of their tether.

Here’s the synopsis for the short film version:

He’s a man who has had enough. After 30 years of too many downs and not enough ups on life’s rollercoaster, Billy embarks on a final lost weekend in the funfair of a town that is Blackpool. The place he loved as a kid seemed as good as anywhere to end it all. Well, at least try to. Unfortunately, like so many other things in his chaotic world,...

Who Plays Sinners' Main Villain Remmick?
Image
The creatures of the night, what music they make -- especially in Ryan Coogler's haunting but hugely entertaining new vampire horror film, "Sinners." The latest from the "Black Panther" director has Michael B. Jordan pulling double-duty as Smoke and Stack, twin brothers returning home to 1930s Mississippi to set up their own club, only to find some nightmarish outsiders trying to get on the guest list. The claret-covered terror leading this choir of monsters, Remmick, is played by Jack O'Connell, a British talent whose name is undoubtedly bigger on one side of the pond than the other ... though that could -- and should -- be changing in the very near future.

At 34, O'Connell has already collaborated with some impressively big names, including George Clooney, Colin Farrell, Angelina Jolie, and Ben Mendelsohn. He wouldn't have gotten anywhere, however, without springing to stardom at a young age and delivering some career-defining...

The Rage of ‘Adolescence’: Inside the Single-Shot Sensation Blowing Up the Manosphere
Image
Stephen Graham is mulling over the right word to capture the past month of his life.

“Catastrophic,” he lands on. “In an amazing way.”

It isn’t an overstatement to say Graham is beloved in the U.K. A household name (with credits including Peaky Blinders, Line of Duty, This Is England and Snatch), his unique combination of Liverpudlian charm and acting prowess has made the 51-year-old actor a legend of British television and emblematic of its greatest qualities: raw, rousing and real to the nth degree.

“I’ve been very blessed,” he tells The Hollywood Reporter. “I’ve worked on a lot of film sets and television shows and I’ve had wonderful experiences on 99.9 percent of them. But this was something special.”

He’s referring, of course, to Netflix’s limited series Adolescence. Philip Barantini’s four-part show — each episode filmed in one long, meticulously choreographed shot — has...

Threads TV Remake Coming From Adolescence Producers Warp Films
Image
Horrifying. Moving. Powerful. Game changing. These are just some of the words you've likely heard — or even used yourself — to describe Netflix's lacerating recent four-part drama Adolescence. They're also words that British lovers of film and television have been using for over forty years to describe Mick Jackson's seminal TV movie Threads, a no less shocking and no less audacious piece of filmmaking starring Reece Dinsdale that offered a docu-style look at what may happen in the event of a nuclear attack on Britain. It makes today's news then that Threads is to be remade as a series by Warp Films, the producers of Adolescence, cause for anticipation (and bone-deep fear) rather than concern.

Having long championed British working class voices and narratives with projects like This Is England, The Virtues, Yardie, and Dead Man's Shoes, Threads is a perfect marriage of producer and project for Warp Films...

Anne-Marie Duff Loves That ‘Reunion’ Is on BBC, Not a Streamer: TV Is “Quite an Expensive Hobby”
Image
Anne-Marie Duff (Bad Sisters) is really happy that her latest project, the revenge thriller series Reunion, set in the deaf community and debuting in the U.K. on Monday, is airing on public broadcaster BBC and its iPlayer streaming service.

“It’s the BBC, so you know, it’s going to be seen by everyone, not just people who can afford to pay streaming fees. That’s important because watching TV has become quite an expensive hobby now. And just the idea, always and ever, that what we do can be important and that there’s a point to it, and anyone who feels marginalized gets to see themselves is a huge relief.”

The four-part drama, starring Matthew Gurney as a deaf man who gets to leave prison after years of incarceration, Lara Peake, Eddie Marsan and Rose Ayling-Ellis, was written by Sheffield-born deaf writer William Mager and produced by Sheffield-based Warp Films,...

‘Adolescence’ Producer Warp Films Adapting Apocalyptic 1984 Feature ‘Threads’ Into TV Drama
Image
Warp Films, the U.K. production banner that recently scored a hit with Netflix drama “Adolescence,” has acquired the option to develop 1984 film “Threads” into a TV drama.

Renowned for its groundbreaking portrayal of a fictional apocalypse, “Threads” — which was nominated for 7 BAFTA awards, winning 4 — offers a harrowing depiction of life in nuclear war-era Britain, set in the city of Sheffield (where Warp is based). The new adaptation will, according to the filmmakers, explore prescient issues through “rich, character-driven” storytelling.

“Threads was, and remains, an unflinchingly honest drama that imagines the devastating effects of nuclear conflict on ordinary people,” said Mark Herbert, founder and chief executive officer at Warp Films. “This story aligns perfectly with our ethos of telling powerful, grounded narratives that deeply connect with audiences. Reimagining this classic film as a TV drama gives us a unique opportunity to explore its modern relevance.”

Decades after “Threads” was first released,...

Drama in Crisis? ‘Adolescence’ and the State of the Industry
Image
Written by Dom Lenoir of The Filmmakers Podcast

There’s no doubt that Adolescence is a massive success. What started as a pitch for another “one-take” concept, following the success of Boiling Point, has quickly turned into a cultural phenomenon and international hit.

So, what is behind the new Netflix show’s meteoric rise? Is it the concept, or just a fad? Perhaps it really is just great “drama.”

I had the pleasure of talking to some of the talented creatives behind Philip Barantini’s latest hit, Adolescence, last week. I started by chatting with Stephen Graham and Erin Doherty. The buildup to the interviews can be a slightly nerve-wracking experience as you wait silently in a bustling hotel corridor in London, with teams of PR and personnel spread across many rooms, before being thrust into the lights and cameras where your interviewees are waiting. As a filmmaker, I am...

Matthew Gurney, Anne-Marie Duff, Eddie Marsan, Lara Peake on BBC Thriller ‘Reunion’: “We Don’t Want to Show Deaf People as Victims”

“There was something I liked about the script, and once I read it all, I knew this is the moment I’ve been waiting for for a good 20 years.” That’s what star Matthew Gurney told the crowd at London’s BFI Southbank on Thursday evening during a panel discussion following a screening of the first episode of the upcoming BBC revenge thriller Reunion, set in the deaf community.

The four-part thriller, also starring Gurney as a deaf man who gets to leave prison after years of incarceration, Lara Peake, Anne-Marie Duff, Eddie Marsan and Rose Ayling-Ellis, was written by Sheffield-born deaf writer William Mager and produced by Sheffield-based Warp Films, the production firm behind Netflix hit drama Adolescence. Stephen Graham’s Harrowing Rise: From Racist Thug To Netflix’s Biggest Star: The Role That Nearly Broke Him

Stephen Graham Acting Struggles(Photo Credit –Instagram)

Stephen Graham, who is now dominating Netflix with Adolescence, has long been a force in British acting. Yet for many, his defining role remains that of Combo, the volatile, racist skinhead in This is England.

The Shane Meadows classic revolved around a young boy falling under the influence of Combo’s gang, a character so raw and intense that it left an imprint not just on audiences, but on Graham himself.

No matter the role, Stephen Graham will pull out all the stops and break our hearts. #Adolescence pic.twitter.com/3p3wpH9Ff0

He grew out of his bad-boy beginnings in Skins to full-scale Hollywood stardom thanks to a spin in Angelina Jolie’s helicopter. Now he will answer all your questions

Jack O’Connell, still only 34, has already been on our screens for a couple of decades. Born in Derby in 1990, he had a troubled youth, in and out of court on minor charges, leaving school with scant qualifications and hopes of either becoming a footballer or joining the army.

Instead, he rapidly found fame and acclaim playing mostly delinquent roles on the small and big screen, breaking through in Shane Meadows’ 2006 film This Is England, and consolidating that with a leading role on Skins.

'Adolescence' Has Been a Long Time Coming for Stephen Graham
Image
The Netflix limited series Adolescencehas been nothing short of a sensation, earning rapturous reviews and sitting at the top of the streamer's top ten since its release. At a time when many streaming properties struggle to break through, Adolescence has managed to command attention for its visceral performances, technical virtuosity, and distressingly timely subject matter.

While everyone on the series gives it their all, it serves as an ideal showcase for the many talents of its co-creator and star, Stephen Graham. As Eddie, the father of 13-year-old suspected murderer Jamie, Graham radiates genuine love for his son along with deep anger and guilt in the wake of the allegations against him. It's a masterful performance that marks one of Graham's most visible projects to US audiences, but it's really just the latest in a long line of stellar work stretching back over three decades. Among its many virtues, Adolescence is...

Stephen Graham and Owen Cooper in Adolescencia (2025)
Adolescence: Complete Cast & Characters Guide
Stephen Graham and Owen Cooper in Adolescencia (2025)
Adolescence is a compelling Netflix series that examines the dark consequences of toxic masculinity and online radicalization among youth. The narrative centers on the Miller family, whose lives are upended when 13-year-old Jamie is arrested for the murder of his classmate, Katie Leonard. Through powerful performances and a thought-provoking storyline, the series sheds light on the pervasive influence of the “manosphere” and the challenges faced by modern adolescents. This article provides an overview of the plot and introduces the ensemble cast of Adolescence that brings this poignant story to life.

Plot Overview:

Adolescence TV Review: Stephen Graham leads a stunning and shocking limited series
Image
Plot: A crime drama filmed in an ambitious real-time, one-shot. It tells the story of how a family’s world is turned upside down when 13-year-old Jamie Miller is arrested with the murder of a teenage girl who goes to his school.

Review: Being a parent is an incredibly hard job. When you add the complexity of shepherding impressionable minds in our fully integrated and constantly online culture, things that were difficult decades ago become infinitely more so today. The four-episode limited series Adolescence is a chilling portrait of what could happen to even the most caring and attentive parents. Co-created by star Stephen Graham, Adolescence is a masterpiece of acting and writing that also serves as a technical achievement, with each episode filmed as a single, long take. There are so many fantastic stories on television, but Adolescence is easily one of the best productions ever created for the small screen.

Having proven himself a true chameleon with the monsters and tortured men he's brought to life over the years, Graham has collaborated with some of the most influential filmmakers and stars in movie history, including Daniel Day-Lewis, Brad Pitt (whose production company Plan B Entertainment helped get "Adolescence" off the ground), and Martin Scorsese. So, where do you begin with a talent like that? ‘Adolescence’ Is More Than Netflix’s Take on the One-Take Gimmick — It’s a Conversation About Incel Culture
Image
It’s tempting for the technical story behind “Adolescence” to overshadow the themes at the center of the Netflix original. After all, this is a series composed of four hourlong one-shot episodes. But even though it was director Philip Barantini’s expertise with the oner that sparked the conversation that would lead to “Adolescence,” this directorial triumph was only utilized to highlight the tense story at the center of this limited series.

“Whenever I was reading the script, I had to be able to visualize that we were able to do this one take and it wasn’t going to be a gimmick,” Barantini told TheWrap.

“We wanted to create something that grabbed you straight away,” series star, co-creator and executive producer Stephen Graham told TheWrap. “We wanted to make it so you can’t afford to miss anything within the context of what we’re shooting.”

Stephen Graham Faces A Parent’s Worst Nightmare In Trailer For One-Shot Netflix Drama Adolescence
Image
Having stepped into the ring to deliver a knockout performance as bulked-up brawler Sugar Goodson in Disney+ period piece A Thousand Blows already this year, British acting heavyweight Stephen Graham is set to face an intense fight of an altogether different kind in upcoming Netflix drama Adolescence. Co-created and written by Graham and This Is England series writer Jack Thorne, Adolescence sees Graham reteam with Boiling Point director Philip Barantini and A Thousand Blows co-star Erin Doherty to tell a one-shot, real-time story about a family whose lives come undone when their teenage son is arrested on suspicion of murdering a girl at his school. Check out the nail-biting trailer below;

‘A Thousand Blows’ Cast and Character Guide
Image
When it comes to British historical dramas, very few can be said to have matched the popularity attained by Peaky Blinders, so it’s understandable why fans were excited for series creator Steven Knight’s latest venture, A Thousand Blows. Set in the underworld of late 19th century London, the six-episode series focuses on the real-life all-female thieves gang, The Forty Elephants, and highlights the transition period of boxing. A Thousand Blows is engaging enough to keep its viewers hooked throughout, and aside from a solid script and the authentic recreation of historical settings, a colorful ensemble of characters proved to be the major reason behind that. With a second season already greenlit, there is a possibility of the series gaining a cult following in the near future, and the continuation of a proper arc of the players involved will be something to look forward to.

Banned British Classic ‘Scum’ Returns to Digital for a New Generation
Image
Alan Clarke’s brutally unflinching prison drama Scum is set to make its long-awaited return to digital platforms in the UK and Ireland, with Vertigo Releasing confirming a release date of 17th March. The controversial 1979 film, which remains one of the most hard-hitting portrayals of the British borstal system, stars Ray Winstone in a breakthrough performance that would cement his status as one of the country’s most formidable actors.

Originally produced as a BBC television play in 1977, Scum was banned before its intended broadcast, deemed too extreme for public consumption. Clarke and screenwriter Roy Minton refused to let their vision disappear into obscurity, reworking the film as a theatrical release in 1979. What followed was a harrowing portrayal of institutional brutality that quickly became one of the most infamous British films of its era.

Set in a juvenile correctional facility, Scum follows Carlin (Winstone), a young offender who quickly learns...

Stephen Graham Didn’t Recognise Himself After Bulking Up For Boxing Drama A Thousand Blows: ‘Is That Me?’
Image
You may know certified national treasure Stephen Graham from roles such as stressed-out chef Andy Jones in Boiling Point, struggling alcoholic Joseph or skinhead antagonist Combo from Shane Meadows’ The Virtues or This Is England, or murderous mobster Anthony ‘Tony Pro’ Provenzano in The Irishman. But chances are, you’ve never seen him in a role quite like his latest: Henry ‘Sugar’ Goodson, a fearsome bare-knuckle fighter from Peaky Blinders writer Steven Knight’s new Victorian-era boxing drama series, A Thousand Blows. And as it turns out, neither has Graham himself.

Sugar is an enigmatic character in the show – a self-made man, head of a boxing empire, more familiar with using his fists to express himself than his words. Playing him required an intense bodily transformation for Graham. “My objective was to get big,” he tells Empire, in our world-exclusive new issue. “I thought, ‘I’m going to eat – literally – sleep,...
