A Young Jack Black Starred In A Classic Action Series With Lee Majors
Image
On ABC's 1980s action series "The Fall Guy," Lee Majors played Colt Seavers, a Hollywood stuntman who, as a side-hustle, worked as a freelance bounty hunter. His experiences with stunt driving made him well-suited to track down bad guys, and his constant exposure to danger gave him an appealing devil-may-care attitude. He was often aided by fellow stunt performers Kid (Douglas Barr) and Jody (Heather Thomas). Majors himself sang the theme song. The "Fall Guy" IP was eventually revived decades later when director David Leitch adapted the premise into a big screen Hollywood blockbuster starring Ryan Gosling. The 2024 "Fall Guy" movie was spectacular, by the way.

In the "The Fall Guy" episode "Old Heroes Never Die", Colt becomes embroiled in criminal malfeasance with an old baseball star named Ron Perkins (Paul Winfield). Perkins was once a star player but has since fallen on hard times and is now $50,000 in debt...

After 20 Years, Jack Black Still Won’t Apologize for the Movie That Flopped So Hard It Became a Cult Classic
Image
What makes someone own up and stick by their failure even after decades with no shame or regret? For Jack Black, the answer doesn’t lie in box office numbers or critical acclaim, but passion and creativity.

No one can make you feel bad about the kind of project that’s a part of your soul and not just a line on your resume. So let’s see which is that messy and hilarious movie that critics and audiences hated equally, but Black still adores?

Jack Black still stands by Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny Jack Black as Steve in A Minecraft Movie | Credits: Warner Bros. Pictures

You probably know Jack Black as the frontman of School of Rock or the voice of Kung Fu Panda, but long before that, he was one half of Tenacious D, a band that mixed two art forms together. Their head-banging riffs...

The Underrated Comedy That Jack Black Is (Surprisingly) Most Proud Of
Image
Jack Black and Kyle Gass first met in the mid-1980s, when the two young men were performing with the Actors' Gang, a performance troupe from Culver City, California. They bonded over their mutual taste in music, and the pair would end up spending a lot of time together at Gass' apartment, where Gass would teach Black how to play the guitar. By 1994, they had written one (1) song together, and performed live for the first time. As the lore goes, they hadn't settled on a band name yet, and put out a few choices to the audience. Their choices were the simple Pets or Meat, the silly Balboa's Biblical Theater, or Gass' favorite, The Axe Lords Featuring Gorgazon's Mischief. Eventually, though, the pair sort of insisted the audience choose Tenacious D, a term they got from a local basketball announcer (as in: tenacious defense).

Few remember the "Tenacious D" TV specials,...

Before Minecraft, Jack Black Starred In Another Movie About A Fantasy Realm
Image
In Jared Hess' blockbuster "A Minecraft Movie," Jack Black stars as Steve, the default character one typically plays as in the ultra-popular "Minecraft" video game. For the movie, Steve is re-imagined as a middle-aged man from a small town in Idaho who stumbles through a portal into the "Minecraft" Overworld. The Overworld is a fantasy dimension made of cubes that abides by its own laws of video game physics. Steve can manifest building materials out of thin air and has access to magical widgets like Elytra wings and Ender Pearls. He also winds up having to do battle with an army of bipedal magical pig monsters called Piglins.

Few actors could sell something like "A Minecraft Movie" as well as Black. The actor approaches the absurd material with utter enthusiasm, taking every fantasy conceit perfectly seriously. He was put in the position of explaining "Minecraft" to a group of noobs,...

The Music Mythology Of Sinners Has A Long And Fascinating History
Image
This article contains spoilers for "Sinners."

Think about this question long and hard: What would you be willing to sacrifice in order to achieve greatness? As our society descends into a neverending cycle of narcissism and self-promotion thanks to the reign of social media, it feels like the majority of people wouldn't think twice about sacrificing their dignity, thoughts, or time to achieve fame and/or fortune. Yet greatness is something more than mere popularity or notoriety; it also involves a sincere desire to master the craft. One of the most frustrating things about achieving greatness is that talent and hard work are only half the battle, because you need a lot of luck, too. If some supernatural force approached you and made you a deal where your greatness could be guaranteed in exchange for your soul, would you take the deal, or find yourself battling the temptation toward darkness within and without you?...

The 10 Best Jack Black Movies
Image
Jack Black is back on our screens with “A Minecraft Movie,” and once you finish the film, you might be feeling a desire for more of him.

Over the years, Black has cemented himself as a comedy legend, with musical chops to boot. But the man has been working in Hollywood for a few decades now, which means his catalogue runs pretty deep. So, if you need some help choosing, we’ve rounded up nine of his best films to guide you.

These are in no particular order, so love them as you see fit.

Paramount Pictures School of Rock (2001)

There’s a reason that scenes from “School of Rock” have consistently gone viral on social media, as recently as last year. The film, directed by Richard Linklater and written by “The White Lotus” creator Mike White, is just a fun, musical balm for the soul, in which Jack Black...

How much would you shell out to win an Oscar? Just ask Patricia Arquette, who was paid peanuts to do the 2014 flick and walked away with a golden statue.

She explained: "It's important to me as an actor to be able to make a living, but I'm going to tell you something — I paid more money to my babysitter and my dog walker than I made to be in Boyhood."

Jack Black – 'Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny'Rotten Tomatoes Classic Trailers/YouTube

Taking a $1 million salary for the musical fantasy comedy, which Jack Black split with band member Kyle Gass, instead of his normal $12 million to bring his movie to theaters, the film Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny made $13.9 million and cost $20 million.

Jack Black's 2024 Christmas Movie Pays Off An Unholy Obsession That Started With Tenacious D's "Tribute"
Image
Jack Blacks upcoming 2024 movie is the Christmas film Dear Santa, through which hes paying off an unholy obsession that started with his project Tenacious D. With his comedic style and sense of humor, Jack Black has become one of the most beloved comedians and actors of his generation. Blacks filmography has covered a bit of everything, including rom-coms like The Holiday and even slashers with I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, but hes best known (and praised) for his comedy projects.

In 1994, Black took his comedic skills to another level with the band Tenacious D, which he formed with fellow actor and comedian Kyle Gass. The comedy rock duo has found great success with its unique style and how it has branched out to other media. Tenacious D has starred in movies, TV shows, and made various collaborations, but theres one strange yet funny and interesting obsession in their works: the devil,...

How A Failed Tenacious D Animated Series Led To Jack Black's Streak Of Video Game Movies
Image
Minecraft is the latest addition to the list of Jack Black video game movies, and his history with the genre traces back to a failed Tenacious D animated series. Award-winning comedy actor and musician Jack Black is beloved by audiences and has established himself as a reliable and multi-talented performer, but with a current streak of roles in video game movies, Black has also made a major splash in the gaming community. His vocal performance as Bowser in the 2023 animated Super Mario Bros Movie was a viral sensation that led to the adaptation's $1 billion box office domination and award-winning run.

Black has since appeared as Claptrap in the 2024 Borderlands live-action movie, with critics praising his commitment, despite the commercial failure and negative reception of the project. To continue this monumental trend in the actor's career, Black is set to portray Steve in Warner Bros. and Mojang Studios' 2025 Minecraft movie, a...

Jack Black Offers Update on the Status of Tenacious D Following Recent Fallout
Image
Jack Black has offered an update on the status of Tenacious D. Black makes up one half of the legendary comedy rock duo, along with his long-time friend Kyle Gauss. Together the pair have sold over two million albums and toured the world multiple times, bringing their signature style of crass humor paired with electric guitars to audiences everywhere. The band even starred in their own movie, Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny, which has become a cult classic among fans.

Black frightened and upset fans recently when he announced that the band were cutting their current tour short. This came after his bandmate, Gass, made a joke about the assassination attempt on Donald Trump. Black almost immediately announced that the tour was ending and that "all future plans are on hold." In a recent interview with Variety, at the premiere of Borderlands, Black clarified his statement, confirming that...

Jack Black Promises Tenacious D “Will Be Back”
Image
We have not heard the last from Tenacious D.

During the red carpet premiere of Borderlands on Tuesday, Jack Black was asked about the band’s status following bandmate Kyle Gass’s joke about an assassination attempt on Donald Trump, which led Black to cancel the band’s upcoming tour dates. Speaking to Variety, Black promised that Tenacious D “will be back.”

“We need to take a break. Everybody needs a break sometime,” Black explained. “And we’ll be back.”

Asked if he had spoken to Gass since canceling the tour, Black replied, “Yeah, we’re friends. That hasn’t changed. These things take time sometimes… And we’ll be back when it feels right.”

As proof of his commitment to Tenacious D, Black noted that he was wearing the magical guitar pick from the band’s 2006 film, Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny. “I love Tenacious D. It’s probably my favorite job,...

Jack Black Says Tenacious D Will ‘Be Back’ Following Tour Cancellation Due to Kyle Gass’ Trump Shooting Remark: ‘These Things Take Time’
Image
Jack Black has weighed in on the future of Tenacious D after his band partner, Kyle Gass, made a controversial remark about Donald Trump’s attempted assassination in July, which prompted Black to cancel the duo’s latest tour.

“We need to take a break. Everybody needs a break sometime,” Black told Variety‘s Marc Malkin at the “Borderlands” premiere on Tuesday night. “And we’ll be back.”

Asked if he’s talked to Gass since the tour’s cancellation, Black replied, “Yeah, we’re friends. That hasn’t changed. These things take time sometimes… And we’ll be back when it feels right.”

Black also showed off the titular magical guitar pick from the 2006 comedy film “Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny.”

“Look what I wore today: I wore the Pick of Destiny,” Black said on the carpet. “I love Tenacious D. It’s probably my favorite job,...

Jack Black Cancels Tenacious D Tour Following Donald Trump Shooting Comments
Image
Jack Black is taking a hard stand when it comes to his Tenacious D bandmate Kyle Gass following a comment he made regarding the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. While it may have simply been a joke made in the heat of the moment by Gass, for Black, it was serious enough to put all things Tenacious D on hold. Per Deadline, Black has announced that the current Tenacious D tour has been canceled following the controversial remark that Gass made during a performance in Sydney, Australia.

For those unaware, Black asked Gass to make a wish during the performance, which resulted in his bandmate saying, "Don't miss Trump next time," a direct reference to the recent assassination attempt on Trump's life over the weekend. And Black has gone even further than just canceling the tour, saying that "all future creative plans" for the band are on hold as well.

The Best Bigfoots and Sasquatches on the Big Screen
Image
Bigfoots or Sasquatches, these creatures that straddle the line between man and beast are a captivating blend of mystery and fascination. Picture cavemen of colossal stature, untouched by the need to shave their skin. That’s your typical bigfoot. These enigmatic beings have also found their way into the spotlight of cinema, becoming iconic movie stars in their own right.

While they may have fewer film representations than their arctic counterparts, the yeti, Bigfoot has left an indelible mark on Hollywood. Whether these creatures were scene stealers or the main attraction, the Sasquatch has carved a unique place in cinema history. Each character brings a distinct perspective to the mythos, from the terrifying and elusive family of beasts in the newly released Sasquatch Sunset to the misunderstood and gentle Mr. Link. They know how to bust a move, look for their own, and fly! Yes, fly.

Jack Black Says ‘I’m Ready’ for a ‘School of Rock’ Sequel, but Mike White Needs to Write It and ‘He’s Real Busy Right Now’ With ‘The White Lotus’
Image
Jack Black recently told the news outlet Joe, while making the press rounds for “Kung Fu Panda 4,” that he is more than ready to make a sequel to “School of Rock,” the 2003 comedy classic that was directed by Richard Linklater and written by Mike White. Black has stayed close with his younger co-stars over the years, but a movie sequel has never gotten off the ground. “School of Rock” was adapted into a hit Broadway musical, but perhaps it’s time to get the band back together on the big screen.

“I wish there’d be a ‘School of Rock 2: Electric Boogaloo,'” Black said, referencing the 1984 sequel to the dance musical “Breakin’.” The comedian added: “I’m ready.”

“You know Mike White wrote the first one and he’s a genius,” Black continued. “And we’d have to have Mike White back in the saddle, but he...

Shout! Factory: Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny Review
Image
Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny released from Shout! Factory on February 13th, 2024.

Jack Black is among my favorite comedic leading men. The first film I ever reviewed was School of Rock for my high school newspaper. His physical delivery is unmatched, and he’s able to make nearly every character, no matter how absurd, feel relatable and approachable. Despite my adoration for the man, Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny had evaded me for eighteen long years. Now, thanks to the fine folks at Shout! Factory, that’s all changed.

Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny Critique Jack Black in ‘Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny’ Also Read: Shout! Factory: Shaw Brothers Classics Vol. 4 Review

I was twenty-years-old when Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny released to theaters. That’s seemingly the perfect age for an R-rated comedy comprised of utter silliness and rock-and-roll.

Tenacious D In The Pick Of Destiny Was A Box-Office Disaster That Became A Cult Classic
Image
Jack Black has been in his fair share of hit movies over the years, from "School of Rock" to "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" and everything in between. The man has been a bonafide movie star for decades. But even the biggest stars have to suffer a misfire every once in a while and, for Black, one of his biggest misfires was also a very personal endeavor. 2006's "Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny" brought the rock duo of Jack Black and Kyle Gass to the big screen with initially disastrous results. Yet, time has been kind to the film as it has become a true cult favorite.

Black recently spoke about the film's legacy in the latest issue of Total Film magazine. The actor described "Pick of Destiny" as his baby. Not only because it's the only movie he wrote personally, but because it was based on an emotional truth,...

What’s Coming to Max in July 2023: ‘Full Circle,’ 'Brandi Carlile: In the Canyon Haze,' 'Harley Quinn' Season 4
Image
The original Max series “Full Circle” debuts on July 13. Directed by Steven Soderbergh, the new drama investigates a kidnapping gone wrong in New York, revealing the secrets and lies of multiple characters. Or as the trailer warns: “Everything is connected.” The six-episode limited series stars Zazie Beetz, Claire Danes, Jim Gaffigan, Jharrel Jerome, Timothy Olyphant, and Dennis Quaid.

Watch the “Full Circle” trailer:

The four-part documentary “Last Call: When A Serial Killer Stalked Queer New York” is set in the early 1990s as the AIDS crisis worsens. The media’s distorted coverage of the gay victims, coupled with the homophobic biases of the criminal justice system, undermine the investigation. The docuseries — which premieres on Max on July 9 — illustrates how the LGBTQ+ community fought to solve the murders and demand attention for those murdered.

Jack Black confirmed in a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight that he’s planning to reunite with his younger “School of Rock” co-stars later this year to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the comedy’s release. Bros & 9 Other Comedy Flops That Deserved To Be Hits

Billy Eichner’s sharply written romantic comedy Bros is now streaming on Peacock after being universally acclaimed by critics but failing to turn a profit at the box office. Bros has been named as one of the funniest comedies in recent memory, but audiences were more interested in being frightened than amused in the Halloween season. It’s the latest in a long line of laugh-out-loud comedies that deserved to be seen by bigger crowds in their theatrical run.

From Office Space to The Nice Guys to Big Trouble in Little China, some of the most hilarious comedies ever made have bombed at the box office.

Jack Black Somersaults Onstage to Accept Comedic Genius Honor at MTV Movie & TV Awards
Jack Black
In true Jack Black fashion, the veteran comedic actor somersaulted his way onstage in a panda suit — seemingly in a tribute to his iconic “Kung Fu Panda” character Po — to accept the MTV Movie & TV Awards’ Comedic Genius Award.

“I don’t deserve this but I will take it,” Black said. “Thank you, MTV. This is for all the ‘School of Rock-ers’ out there, and for all the ‘Tenacious D-sciples’ and, most of all, my amazing wife Tanya [Haden] and our two incredible boys, I love you.”

The “Nacho Libre” star began his short and sweet speech joking about all of the films he’s been in: “Are you kidding? For what? ‘School of Rock,’ ‘Jumanji,’ ‘Kung Fu Panda,’ ‘Goosebumps,’ ‘Nacho Libre,’ ‘Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny,’ my sweet dance moves on TikTok? What are we talking about? It’s ridiculous!” he said, which prompted huge cheers from the audience.

‘Dio: Dreamers Never Die’ Review: Portrait of a Metal Gentleman Who Only Sang Like the Devil
Image
In music’s metal subculture, the late singer Ronnie James Dio may still count as the genre’s most widely beloved figure, which makes him ripe for a documentary. He was almost completely uncontroversial, which doesn’t necessarily bode as well for such a treatment. The dude who popularized the so-called “devil horns” hand gesture was no demon. He just played one on MTV, or at least enjoyed dragging out the sinister imagery, even if in in real life he came off as a friendly upstate New York guy who’d made it big with a penchant for vaguely mystic imagery and a mountain-king-sized voice that could fill the biggest halls.

“Dio: Dreamers Never Die,” the latest in a series of effective, mostly unpretentious rock docs produced by BMG, doesn’t present its subject as a particularly tortured or even complicated guy. It may be the most drugless documentary ever...

New on Netflix: March 2021 Releases
Image
The streaming wars are just as fiery and competitive as ever. Disney+ now has one Marvel TV show under its belt (WandaVision), with another one to come in March (The Falcon and The Winter Soldier). In response, Netflix is broadening its reach with its list of new releases for March 2021.

Netflix always features plenty of international options for viewers across the globe, but March is the first month where it seems as though international releases make up roughly half of Netflix’s originals. And that’s great! China’s The Yin Yang Master and Spain’s Coven of Sisters both look to be intriguing films this month.

On the U.S. domestic side of things, however, pickings are bit slimmer. March 3 sees the release of the intensely American-sounding...

Amy Adams: The Essential Performances
Image
Like many brilliant women throughout cinema history who toil in obscurity before eventually being recognized for their greatness, it took some of us a while to notice Amy Adams. After all, Adams wasn’t always enjoying the kinds of starry, awards-friendly roles she is now more or less synonymous with. For some time, Adams was competing for screentime with male co-stars who happened to be comedy icons (“Talladega Nights”) and getting cast in such illustrious parts like “Gorgeous Woman” in mid-tier farces (“Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny”).

Stuart Cornfeld Rip: Everyone Loved Ben Stiller’s Producing Partner
Image
Longtime producer Stuart Cornfeld, 67, died June 26 of cancer, but left a mark on Hollywood with collaborations with iconic directors and a run of hit movies dating back to 1980.

As a film student at the AFI Conservatory in the 1970s he worked with Anne Bancroft, who went on to introduce him to Mel Brooks. Cornfeld was an assistant on Brooks’ 1977 comedy “High Anxiety,” and the two men teamed as executive producers on David Lynch’s 1980 “The Elephant Man.”

Cornfeld went on to produce David Cronenberg’s “The Fly,” which put the Canadian body-horror master on the map. Cornfeld also produced Steven Soderbergh’s “Kafka,” the young filmmaker’s first movie after the 1989 indie sensation “Sex, Lies, and Videotape,” Guillermo del Toro’s “Mimic,” and the Vince Gilligan-scripted “Wilder Napalm.”

But Cornfeld’s closest collaboration was with filmmaker and actor Ben Stiller, with whom he launched Red Hour Productions and turned...

Stuart Cornfeld Dies: Producer For ‘Zoolander’ And “Tropic Thunder’ Was 67
Image
Stuart Cornfeld, the producing partner with Ben Stiller on Zoolander, Dodgeball and Tropic Thunder, died Friday of cancer. He was 67.

His friend, actress Liliana Greenfield-Sanders confirmed the news on Twitter.

Very sad to let you know that our dear friend Stuart Cornfeld died today from cancer. He was the funniest person on the planet. I will miss him terribly. Do yourself a favor and watch one of the many amazing films he produced. He was truly one of the greats. pic.twitter.com/ONcuOl56Hk

— Greenfield-Sanders (@Liliana) June 26, 2020

Cornfeld was born in Tarzana in 1952, and graduated from the American Film Institute in 1975. While working with Anne Bancroft on two Directing Workshop for Women projects, she introduced him to husband Mel Brooks. That led to Cornfeld becoming the assistant on 1977’s High Anxiety.

He worked on several other Bancroft and Brooks projects, becoming the executive producer on the Brooks-produced The Elephant Man.

Celebrating John C. Reilly's Best Movie Roles
Mark Harrison Jan 11, 2019

We look at the eclectic career of one of Hollywood's most beloved character actors, John C. Reilly.

This article comes from Den of Geek UK.

As an actor, John C. Reilly is exceptionally difficult to pin down. The Academy Award-nominated actor has worked with filmmakers ranging from Paul Thomas Anderson to Judd Apatow. Currently in awards contention again for his turn as Oliver Hardy in Stan & Ollie, he’s always been brilliant at both comedic and dramatic roles.

Going at least as far back as Will Ferrell and Jack Black’s "A Comedian At The Oscars" number at the 2007 Academy Awards, Reilly’s formidable range has long been celebrated. How do we know that real actors can do both comedy and drama? John C. Reilly, that’s how. After all, he “chose to be in both Boogie and Talladega Nights!”

In addition to Stan & Ollie, you can...

Review: Tenacious D In Post-apocalypto, The Disappointing Animated Adventure Of Jack Black and Kyle Gass' Rock Band
Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny, the first and so far only film adventure of Jack Black and Kyle Gass’ rock band, is an underrated movie and a heartfelt tribute to rock 'n' roll that fulfills its purpose of making you laugh, while also delivering a very memorable soundtrack that has some of the band’s best songs. That initial sequence told through the song "Kickapoo", about the childhood of the rocker black sheep of a religious family, is perfect to exemplify the worth of Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny as a comical "rock opera", even with cameos by Meat Loaf and Ronnie James Dio himself. Almost 12 years after the premiere of Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny,...

Matthew Vaughn at an event for Stardust: El misterio de la estrella (2007)
Elton John Biopic Rocketman Is All Sex, Drugs and Rock N Roll
Matthew Vaughn at an event for Stardust: El misterio de la estrella (2007)
Matthew Vaughn, who is co-producing the upcoming Elton John biopic Rocketman alongside Paramount Pictures, has described the movie as "the first R-rated musical," including "drugs, sex, [and] rock'n'roll." Matthew Vaughn's production company Marv Studios will have a big hand in the upcoming biopic, and given a number of their previous movies such as Kingsman, it's understandable that this movie will be raunchy.

Vaughn's description of Rocketman being the "first R-rated musical" isn't entirely true, unfortunately. There have already been a number of R-rated musicals over the years, including serious ones like Sweeney Todd and Purple Rain, along with comedies like Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny and The Blues Brothers. Regardless, Vaughn's message comes across clear that Rocketman will be like no other musical we've seen before. While it won't technically be the first R-rated musical, it will most likely be the first of its kind.

Rocketman is set to star Taron Egerton,...

Jack Black Says There's a New Tenacious D Movie Sequel in Development
Jack Black and Kyle Gass' 2006 movie Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny was a fun and ridiculous movie that seemed like a one and done kind of thing. It was a product of its time when the actual band Tenacious D was at their peak of popularity. Also, the movie completely bombed at the box office and only made $13.9 million on a budget of $20 million. You'd think that fact alone would guarantee that a sequel would never be made.

But, according to Jack Black, there's a sequel in development and it will be coming out in October. The news comes from The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, and Black told them:

“I don’t know where you’ll be able to see it, but we have decided that it’s happening and it’s coming out.”

There are absolutely no other details on the film project or any info on the story,...

Tenacious D Announce Pick of Destiny 2 Is Coming This Fall
Jack Black
Over the weekend, Tenacious D, comprised of Jack Black and Kyle Gass, played the Shaky Knees Festival. Black announced from the stage that they are working on Pick of Destiny 2. The news shocked the audience since the last movie came out more than 12 years ago. While it was a box office bomb, The Pick of Destiny has gone on to gain cult status over the years and has a massive following, along with the soundtrack to the movie.

During the middle of their set at the Shaky Knees Festival in Atlanta, Jack Black addressed the audience to announce the good news. Black's announcement was brief and didn't shed much light on specifics, but that's not what's important here. Additionally, Jack Black also revealed that it's coming out this October. He had this to say about the sequel to Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny.

"I don't know where you'll be able to see it,...

‘Fight Club’: Meat Loaf Reveals How He Helped David Fincher Pick Key Takes During the Directing Process
David Fincher
Meat Loaf has come a long way since his acting debut in the 1975 classic “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.” He’s appeared in countless films and television shows including “The 51st State,” “Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny,” “Monk,” “Glee,” and “House, M.D,” among others. He’s also a Grammy Award winner and has sold more than 80 million records worldwide – but don’t call him a musician (more on that later).

Speaking with The A.V. Club, Meat Loaf revealed that “Fight Club” was one of his favorite movies that he’s been a part of because David Fincher let him take part in the directing process.

The actor portrayed Robert “Bob” Paulson, a former body builder who due to his excessive use of steroids got testicular cancer, and at times helped the director pick key takes.

5 Disappointing Movies That Deserve a Second Chance
Jack Black
There are more than a handful of sequels and franchise movies that came out amongst tons of hype only to fail or disappoint fans that waited far too long to finally see them. Sometimes, its this anticipation that makes a movie seem less than its sum. We, as lovers of pop culture, have spent far too much time cultivated our own ideas about them. In many instances we have years, even decades, to build the movie for ourself inside our brain. So, of course, more often than not...There's going to be a disconnect. We never return to these movies again. Our tainted memories remain firmly in place. But sometimes, its these bloated expectations that devour us, killing any enjoyment or fun we might otherwise have with any given installment of the latest blockbuster. Sometimes, we just take these things too seriously. And a perfectly decent movie gets lost in that 'expectation translation'.

Ben Stiller's professional onscreen career is officially turning 30 this year — that's roughly 412 in comedian years. In a business where funny people tend to quickly exhaust their limited charm and sink from telling jokes to becoming a punchline, the restless and versatile Stiller has managed to sustain one of the most consistent comic careers this side of Bob Hope. From his days as a bit player to his later emergence as a force of nature in front of the camera and behind the scenes (you have his production company Red...

HBO Orders Tim Robbins And Jack Black To The Brink
Having commissioned the pilot episode of The Brink – a half-hour dark political comedy – last year, HBO has now ordered the show to series, with Tim Robbins and Jack Black heading the cast.

The show centres around the main players caught in a geo-political crisis. Tim Robbins plays the Us Secretary of State, Walter Hollander, who has little patience for war-mongers, while Jack Black plays Alex Coppins – a Foreign Service Officer dealing with the crisis in the field. A third main role – that of a Navy fighter pilot – has yet to be cast, although the wider cast list includes Aasif Mandvi and Meera Syal. The pilot was written by brothers Roberto and Kim Benabib – Roberto having previously worked on Ally McBeal and Weeds.
