Image
Charley and Vlas Parlapanides, the dynamic duo of writer/producers behind Immortals and hit Netflix animated series Blood of Zeus, have tapped Oscar-nominated screenwriter Dan Gordon (The Hurricane) and New York Times bestselling writer and artist John Stanisci (Batman Beyond) to develop a new property based on the bloody gladiator battles of 5th century Rome with Gladiatrix, in simultaneous development as an original graphic novel and television series!

Charley Parlapanides says “Dan and John have been masterful storytellers for decades in a wide variety of mediums, be it film, tv, the theater or the panels of a comic book. We are thrilled to be working with them and absolutely love the story they’ve crafted. And truthfully, we feel the world needs a story like this, a story about heroism and bravery in the face of almost insurmountable odds.”

Vlas Parlapanides adds “Charley and I couldn’t be more thrilled...

‘Atropa,’ ‘Bonding’ ‘Cabeza Madre’ Make Canneseries Digital Cut
Atropa (2018)
Eli Sisach’s deep-space sci-fi thriller “Atropa,” Rightor Doyle’s kinky “Bonding” and Frenchmen Edouard Salier’s U.S./Cuba “Cabeza Madre” – where an initially lampooned Cuba in many ways comes off the better – all figure in the inaugural Canneseries Digital, a showcase for the riches – artistic, financial – of a burgeoning entertainment form.

Compulsive viewing, and homaging an ‘80s “Aliens”-school of murky, industrial deep-space sci-fi, American Eli Sasich’s time-warp mystery “Atropa” has an Off-World officer reuniting with his estranged wife in an outer galaxy, as her space vessel collides with another version of itself.

A Studio + Original Series, “Cabeza Madre,” delivers a “Fargo”-oddball character comedy about an uptight American (Clifton Collins Jr.) facing off in Cuba with his decapitated mother’s apartment-block mob.

Created and written-directed by U.S. actor Rightor Doyle (“You’re the Worst”), “Bonding” turns on two former high-school best friends, Tiff and Pete,...

Sci-Fi Legend Roger Corman Talks about His Proteges

This weekend the Syfy channel aired the latest Roger Corman creation, Dinocroc vs Supergator. The movie was the inevitable combination of Dinocroc and Supergator, the two past films made by the legendary producer for the network. Corman, often called the King of the B-movies, is best known his low budget sci-fi flicks, but he also has had mainstream success with his Edgar Allen Poe movies, including The Fall of the House of Usher and The Raven, and cult classics like Death Race 2000, Children of the Corn, and Rock and Rock High School.

With an astounding 550 films under his belt it's no wonder the Academy honored him with a Lifetime Achievement Oscar in 2009. But his one work is just part of the story. Throughout the course of his 50-year career, Corman has launched the careers of many of today's Hollywood elite.

Directors like Francis Ford Coppola, Martin Scorsese,...

The Many Lives of Mark Damon: Part II
Before you bury your talons in this week's Blood Spattered Blog, be sure to read the first installment of my interview with cinema legend Mark Damon…

For those of you who were left hanging on a cliff anticipating my Italian terror tinged follow-up, here it is.

The Many Lives of Mark Damon, Part Two:

In The Devils Wedding Night, you worked with an Italian actress who pretty much helped define femininity for me as a kid…I'm talking about Rosalba Neri, or as she's known in anglicized prints, Sarah Bay. Tell me about her…

Ah yes, Rosalba. When I did my first picture with her - I think it was Johnny Yuma - I'd flirt with her like mad and laugh so much and we really became great, great friends. She was a bit like Barbara (Steele) really, she had that same vivacious energy. I put her in The Devils...

Details on new Roger Corman documentary
Production has begun on King Of The B’S: The Independent Life Of Roger Corman, a feature-length documentary about Corman’s life, career and remarkable influence on modern moviemaking. King Of The B’S tracks back to the days when Corman was king, featuring archival footage of American youth culture and counterculture from the 1950s to today, celebrity interviews and vérité footage following the present-day Corman as he continues to produce and distribute films outside the studio system.

The trendsetter’s résumé boasts everything from directorial efforts like Attack Of The Crab Monsters to the Oscar-winning The Tin Drum, which his company, New World Pictures, distributed. Corman’s remarkable 1960s Poe films (House Of Usher, Pit And The Pendulum, Masque Of The Red Death, etc.) for the fledgling American International Pictures put that company on the map. As Fango fans know, maverick Corman’s impressive output of low-budget exploitation films throughout the ’50s,...
