The film seems intent on evoking grandeur, yet it mostly lands somewhere between softcore historical fantasy and low-rent stage drama, weighed down by uneven execution and baffling creative choices. What could have been an engaging, if sensationalized, dive into ancient Roman intrigue comes across more like a meandering costume pageant, stitched together with scenes that promise provocation but deliver mostly inertia.

Daniela Poggi's Poppea, intended as a figure of beauty and cunning, mostly drifts through scenes with a vacant detachment. Her physical presence is emphasized, but her emotional arc is left hollow. In contrast, Bruno Minniti brings a glimmer of sincerity and conviction to his limited screen time, anchoring a few moments that briefly hint at the film's untapped dramatic potential.
