By now, we're sure you all know how much Captain America: Brave New World's Serpent Society changed. Plans for them to be a group of superpowered villains were scrapped, and Rosa Salazar and Seth Rollins ended up on the cutting room floor.
The group, whose upgrades reportedly came from Ironheart's Ezekiel Stane, ultimately became a largely generic team of mercenaries—the "Serpents"—led by Giancarlo Esposito's Sidewinder.
It seems Captain America: Brave New World was in a constant state of flux, as we now have a first look at Michael Blackbear Uwandi's early designs for a version of Sidewinder who wielded more than just a gun.
"Serpent Society for Captain America Brave New World. Very early iteration of nano tattoos," the artist wrote on Instagram. "The snake skin mask was the idea of a 'first phase' transformation for the characters. This was the first take on Side...

Since reaching the peak of acting Everest with his Academy Award winning performance in Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer, it's been fascinating to see what Cillian Murphy has done next. First up, there was Small Things Like These, a low-budget, independent Irish movie about the horrors of the Magdalene laundries in which. And now, before returning to the roles of Tommy Shelby in Steven Knight's upcoming Peaky Blinders movie and Jim in 28 Years Later sequel The Bone Temple, Murphy has immersed himself in another intense, small-scale character study: Steve. The Netflix bound movie, based on author Max Porter's Shy, is a mid-90s set drama in which Murphy plays — you guessed it! — Steve, headteacher of a struggling reformatory. Set over the course of a pivotal day for the school, Steve looks incredibly intense — and you can check out the trailer below;

Notable film critic Roger Ebert hated Jim Carrey for his role in the 1996 film The Cable Guy, but Robin Williams was quick to defend the star in public. Finding worldwide fame with notable roles such as Ace Ventura and The Mask, Jim Carrey was on a roll when he hit his first major bump.
The Cable Guy, directed by Ben Stiller, was a disaster since it showcased Carrey in a serious and creepy role. Carrey’s character became obsessed with one particular customer, and the film’s unsettling tones felt like dark comedy rather than the slapstick one that Carrey was known for.
Roger Ebert even called out Jim Carrey for his performance and called it “creepy” and “bizarre” (via YouTube). The public had turned against Jim Carrey for having a stain on his legacy after a successful start. That’s when Robin Williams defended the star (via The Calgary...

Stephen King, while a widely celebrated master of horror, sometimes has wonky taste in movies. He infamously dislikes Stanley Kubrick's adaptation of "The Shining," feeling it takes too many liberties with his source novel, among other things. This is, of course, fair ("The Shining" was King's idea to begin with), but he does tend to overlook how masterfully crafted Kubrick's film is and how the alterations don't make it any less scary. King has also commented on his favorite movies several times over the years and has listed a few legit classics -- like "Paths of Glory," "Dr. Strangelove," and "Les Diaboliques" -- along with stuff like the middling Gerard Butler thriller "Plane." He's even praised the 2009 remake of "The Last House on the Left" over Wes Craven's original film. King certainly enjoys keeping us on our toes.

Bleach has many fights wherein the antagonists should have emerged victorious, and we have listed a few of them here. Following the traditional Shonen tropes, Bleach showcases battles that are thrilling, and there seems to be no hope for the heroes to win. However, by pulling a Deus Ex Machina moment, the series manages to carry the protagonist, or his team, forward.
There are many fights in Bleach that have such moments. It feels unbelievable and shocking, even for the fans, as their heroes manage to win despite all odds and logic. There is no denying that every story has a certain amount of plot armor; it only makes sense considering we are here to watch the protagonist shine.
However, overcoming adversity and random power-ups at the critical moment are completely different things. Sometimes, a villain’s abilities, experience, or strategic advantage are so overwhelming that their defeat feels forced.

Captain America: Brave New World Concept Art Sees Sam Wilson Fighting A Superpowered Serpent Society
The version of Captain America: Brave New World that arrived in theaters earlier this year seemingly had little in common with the one that was originally filmed. Something about it wasn't working, though, meaning The Leader's scenes were reshot and the superpowered Serpent Society was cut.
Rosa Salazar and WWE Superstar Seth Rollins were left on the cutting room floor, despite the former getting her own Happy Meal toy as Diamondback.
Thanks to artist Michael Blackbear Uwandi, we have a piece of concept art showing Sam Wilson/Captain America doing battle with the Serpent Society. This had the potential to be an awesome action sequence, something Uwandi alluded to in his post.
"In early development, we envisioned what it would look like to see Cap fighting the Serpent Society," he explained. "So many cool ideas for them that didn't make it into the final film."
While something about the original...

There may be no other decade more directly associated with classic horror in the general public consciousness than the 1980s. This is the decade of the slasher genre-shaping "Friday the 13th," of Freddy Krueger famously saving New Line Cinema with "A Nightmare on Elm Street," of Sam Raimi blowing open the doors of independent filmmaking with "The Evil Dead," and of dead-on-arrival bombs turned cult classics like John Carpenter's "The Thing."
The corruption of the Ronald Reagan presidency, if nothing else, proved to be fertile ground for the horror genre's dread and bloodshed. But as always, not all films are created equal — and neither is the public's reception to them. The '80s are chock-full of unseen or under-appreciated gems that stand up to the canonized classics of the era, from disregarded franchise sequels to overlooked ventures from American and international genre masters.

Captain America: Brave New World didn’t perform well at the box office, and now Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has explained why he thinks that happened.
In this latest Captain America movie, Anthony Mackie plays Sam Wilson, the hero who took over after Steve Rogers passed him the shield in Avengers: Endgame. Sam’s story had already been explored in the Disney+ show The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and Brave New World was supposed to continue his journey on the big screen.
However, the movie’s success didn’t match earlier films in the series. According to Box Office Mojo, Brave New World made about $415 million worldwide, on a production budget of $180 million. That’s much less than Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which made over $700 million, or Captain America: Civil War, which crossed the billion-dollar mark.

Before Fast & Furious: Paul Walker’s Forgotten Thriller That Launched a Secret Society Trilogy ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
Before Paul Walker took the wheel in Fast & Furious, he appeared in a lesser-known mystery drama set in a world far removed from racing lanes. The Skulls, released in 2000, placed Walker in a world of covert alongside Joshua Jackson.
The film raked in more than $50 million globally (per Box Office Mojo), made on a modest $15 million budget. Though not widely remembered today, the film didn’t stop there. It later led to two low-profile follow-ups, both of which quietly extended the idea of underground student societies and their secrets.

Every summer has that show — the one you binge with the AC blasting, a couch full of snacks, and sometimes your Twitter or whatever fingers ready because it’s so good you have to commiserate with others.
Netflix had that with The Society.

In the early 2000s, when Bleach had just entered the anime world, it wasn’t just about intense fight scenes or beautifully designed characters; the anime was effortlessly funny. Humor was the anime’s underrated strength, offering various moments of comic relief without undermining emotional stakes, which was kind of a fresh take in a world full of serious sword battles. But as the series progressed, the humor intensity just backfired for the anime.
What once displayed a vibrant and witty component of the series slowly turned to bland humor, which rarely got any laughs out of the viewers. With its forced comic moments, Bleach compromised its tonal balance, which did not sit well with all the viewers of the series.
Bleach’s Early Humor Was Genuinely Great
In its initial arcs, Bleach stood out for being one of the few shonen anime that could effectively use comedy in its episodes.

Dread Central is thrilled to exclusively unveil a chilling new trailer for 1978 out of the 2025 Cannes Market, the latest descent into realist madness from acclaimed filmmakers, the Onetti Brothers. A brutal blend of political horror and lingering, ominous dread, 1978 promises to be one of the most disturbing genre films of recent memory.
Set during the 1978 World Cup final between Argentina and Holland, the shocking film unfolds under the oppressive shadow of Argentina’s military dictatorship. A group of torturers raids a home and abducts several young people, dragging them to a clandestine detention center. But what begins as an inhumane interrogation quickly spirals into something far darker. The captors have taken the wrong group, and their victims are part of a macabre cult tied to an unknown, otherworldly force. What follows is a grotesque unraveling of violence, vengeance, and the supernatural, as the detention center itself transforms into a waking nightmare.

Harrison Ford may be tired of answering questions about Star Wars, but he is certainly not done with that sweet franchise money. After Blade Runner 2049 and the Star Wars sequel films, Ford entered the MCU with Captain America: Brave New World, replacing William Hurt as Thaddeus Ross a.k.a. Thunderbolt a.k.a. Red Hulk.
The fourth Captain America film was not Marvel’s best. Maybe it was the reshoots, but the film received mixed responses, and Ford’s Red Hulk only appearing at the end sort of felt underwhelming, especially since the movie’s marketing was centered around it. However, one extra detail from the comics reportedly almost made it to Red Hulk’s design.

It’s safe to say that body horror is having a moment between recent releases The Substance, Grafted, and The Ugly Stepsister. It’s a welcome trend; body horror has a way of getting under our skin like no other, figuratively and otherwise. There’s no end to the creative ways body horror violates, mutilates, and mutates basic biology, finding endless ways to test the gag reflex in the process. Body horror has also long provided fertile ground for groundbreaking filmmakers to explore the psychologically and physically disturbing ways human anatomy can be abused.
There’s a wide world of body horror beyond Society, The Thing, Tetsuo: The Iron Man, Raw, Titane, or even David Cronenberg‘s horror output. For those looking to venture deeper into the stomach-churning abyss, here are 10 body horror movies you maybe haven’t seen from gateway horror to gross-out gorefests.

ABC's hit show "Brothers & Sisters" aired between 2006 and 2011. The show followed the Walker family, the wealthy owners of a food company headed by recently widowed matriarch Nora Walker (Sally Field). Nora has many children -- the titular brothers and sisters -- and fans fell in love with all of those competing personalities that still managed to love one another fiercely at the end of the day.
The series was almost quite different. The show's original pilot was instead focused on the family's father, which would've led "Brothers & Sisters" down a different path. Then someone had an idea: What if they kill dad? And what if they bring in Field to take over? "They wanted to look at this big American family that had a very strong father figure, a real patriarchal family, but that over the process of time became a matriarchal family, where the women became the strong voices,...

It's easy to say (and we at /Film certainly did at the time) that "Chernobyl" was 2019's most vital, terrifying, and relevant horror story. Based on the true story of the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear plant accident and its aftermath, HBO's captivating and intense miniseries depicted the disaster in grim and visceral detail that, at times, almost seemed like a documentary about an impossibly horrific event.
Of course, it's worth noting that very few people actually have any sort of personal reference point to nuclear disasters, so a viewer who doesn't know the details of the real-life Chernobyl accident might find it difficult to determine whether the show's realism was unflinching dedication to depict the events in a historically accurate fashion, or if it was simply Hollywood magic at its most captivating. After all, "Chernobyl" creator Craig Mazin has since gone on to make "The Last of Us," which can often be...

John Hsu’s Dead Talents Society is a charming, lightweight diversion whose scrappy appeal makes it easily zip by. You don’t mind the occasional bumps and the dips in characterisation because the glee with which the scares are set up frequently offsets them. There’s an endearing quality to its bunch of mournful ghosts whose quest of validation doesn’t end just because they are dead. It’s a nagging reality which pushes them into debilitating loops. It’s a cottage industry of ghost scares that gets set as the premise for their survival.
A lightly wafting energy keeps the film steadily going past bumps in the writing, crevasses where you can sense the characters themselves are turning sketchy. It is as if the plot has been forgotten and there are few distracting missteps that don’t add much to narrative momentum except halt it to no serviceable end.

Just when we thought that Blake Lively’s interview drama couldn’t get any messier, Norwegian journalist Kjersti Flaa dropped yet another bomb. After previously calling out Lively’s cold behavior during the Café Society interview, Flaa recently shifted the spotlight to the actress’ co-star Parker Posey—and let’s just say, it’s not looking good for her either!

Now that the dust is settling on CBS canceling two-thirds of its FBI franchise, questions about whether a second life could be in the cards for FBI: International and FBI: Most Wanted on another network are emerging.
More specifically, NBC.
Universal Television, owned by NBC Universal, co-produces both series, so it’s not out of the realm of possibility.
(Nelly Kiss/CBS)
The biggest surprise is that no details about potential negotiations have spilled out, but perhaps CBS made the early call to end both shows to allow some time for them to close a deal elsewhere.
When CBS announced the existence of FBI: CIA, it seemed that International or Most Wanted would lose their place on the schedule.
(Mark Schafer/CBS)
But now that they’ve both been canceled, it’s hard not to imagine the possibility of CBS’s loss being NBC’s gain in this scenario.

When Harry Met Sallystars Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan took to the stage at the 2025 Oscars on Sunday night to present the night's top honor. Secrets and intrigue lurk beneath the dirt in “Grosse Pointe Garden Society.” But for as much as garden club members Birdie (Melissa Fumero), Catherine (Aja Naomi King), Brett (Ben Rappaport), and Alice (AnnaSophia Robb) find themselves drawn together in a metaphorical, murderous hot house, the team behind the series had to dig deep to make the NBC series look as fancy, frothy, and fun as the characters are meant to be.
Production designer Adam Davis and his team brought in 1,200 different plants, silk lookalikes, and pops of color to establish the garden in the pilot. But that was only the starting point for the show’s rich-looking facade. While every garden must be maintained, it’s especially tricky to do so over the course of a full season of television, with a break between the pilot and the remainder of the series. The pilot episode of Grosse Pointe Garden Society introduced everything about the four main characters whose public lives converged at a neighborhood gardening club. In their personal lives, however, they were dealing with problems stemming from hurtful actions by others, including loved ones. Despite presenting curated images to the outside world, the characters unraveled, and it was revealed that six months into the future, someone had been murdered. They covered it up by burying the victim in the garden, hoping it would be the last time they had to deal with it. That set up a mystery about who was dead, why they died, and if they were murdered, who did it. The episode also teased the eventual exposing of the secret when the garden was set to be dug up. Jenna Bans and Bill Krebs created the series, and in an interview with TV Line, they said that the...

In James D.R. Hickox's 1995 horror flick "Children of the Corn III: Urban Harvest," the rural mayhem of Gatlin, Nebraska is transposed to the concrete wilds of Chicago. A child cult leader named Eli (Daniel Porter) is adopted by a citybound foster mother (Nancy Lee Grahn) who is astonished by his gentle demeanor and Amish-like language. What she doesn't know is that he worships a demonic corn deity (!) called He Who Walks Behind the Rows. Said deity had been mentioned in both 1984's "Children of the Corn" and 1992's "Children of the Corn II: The Final Sacrifice," but no one had ever seen the elusive Hwwbtr, leaving its true nature mysterious.
Eli has magical corn kernels in his possession, and he can swiftly grow and harvest a miniature corn crop in an isolated Chicago lot. This attracts both Hwwbtr and an eager cult of teen followers. Eli, like his "Corn" forebears,...

Until I saw NBC’s Grosse Pointe Garden Society, I’d never thought about how far it might be possible to take a gardening metaphor. Each of the four episodes sent to critics is threaded with voiceover narration, always from a different perspective but invariably laden with floral language comparing individual personalities to specific species or unwanted houseguests to pests.
To the extent that this series has a distinctive edge, it might be its commitment to this specific bit. A tiny part of me hopes it runs for a hundred episodes just to hear how tenuous or obscure the plant-based symbolism can get.
A much larger part of me, however, cannot bring myself to care whether it sticks around or not. Alice (AnnaSophia Robb) might liken herself to a wild geranium or her bestie Brett (Ben Rappaport) to a hardy dandelion. But the show they’re on is the TV...

When we think of popular Shonen anime, Bleach is usually one of the first titles that comes to mind. Its engaging storyline, unforgettable characters, and thrilling fight scenes make fans often compare it to other Shonen giants like One Piece and Naruto.

However, there’s another thing where fans often compare them and it is the fillers episodes. While all these three classic Shonens had their fair share of filler episodes, Bleach stands out for one particularly infamous arc that often drove fans away: the Bount Arc.
The Bount Arc: Bleach’s most hated filler
Covering episodes 64-109, the Bount Arc is Bleach‘s first major filler arc. It introduces a set of vampire-like creatures known as the Bounts, who exist by means of ingesting human souls. While the concept of the Bounts appeared promising, in reality, the execution fell short.

One of the biggest questions in battle shonen anime like Bleach is: how strong should the protagonist be? If the hero is not strong enough, then they cannot win any fights without serious contrivances, and their weakness may annoy the audience. Being too strong means the action star won't struggle in battle, and their victories won't feel earned or inspiring. Now, Bleach fans are encouraged to assess where Ichigo Kurosaki falls on that scale.
In many ways, the power scaling of Bleach was handled well, with the power levels of the Agent of the Shinigami arc giving way to shikai and bankai, followed by world-ending threats like Yhwach and the Schutzstaffel. Ichigo kept pace with all that power scaling in exciting and fun ways, but more and more, it became clear Ichigo had a little too much power, and Bleach resorted to weird ways to deal with that.

Captain America: Brave New World featured a covert criminal organization named Serpent Society in the opening action sequence of the film. Giancarlo Esposito plays their leader, Sidewinder, who goes head-to-head with Sam Wilson aka Captain America (Anthony Mackie) throughout the Marvel sequel. Much has been said about Captain America: Brave New World's reshoots and, depending on who you believe, they were either extensive or just the norm for Marvel Studios.
Something we can safely say is that the movie underwent some significant changes. That's evident from the Serpent Society being cut and replaced by Giancarlo Esposito's Sidewinder, the leader of the power-free "Serpents." And let us not forget The Leader's divisive new look.
Now, a new leak claims to reveal what Captain America: Brave New World looked like before the reshoots. We're unsure how much of this was shot or how accurate a few of the claims are, but much of it lines up with what we've been hearing.

When we last left the Return of the Living Dead franchise, Part 2 had just flopped badly, satisfying neither critics nor fans of the first one. Making only $9 million worldwide after a $6 million budget, what was once thought to be a burgeoning series of movies in the mold of Friday the 13th looked deader than a week-old corpse. But as we all know, you can’t keep a good zombie down, and after the man who held the rights to the Living Dead name, Tom Fox, decided he didn’t want to be in the ghoul business any longer, he sold the rights, which eventually ended up at Trimark Pictures, a small studio specializing in horror pictures like Warlock, Leprechaun and Peter Jackson’s Dead Alive. Back in 2014, Kevin Feige pulled a fast one on us. He teased Captain America: Serpent Society before revealing the real title—Civil War. It was a joke at the time, but now, a decade later, the Serpent Society is finally getting its moment in Captain America: Brave New World. And according to director Julius Onah, this is just the beginning.
‘We’ve talked about the Serpent Society from the start,’ Onah says. ‘There’s a lot more story to tell.’ Marvel producer Nate Moore backs him up, explaining that the group was never meant to be a throwaway reference.

Captain America: Brave New World, which finally hits theaters on Feb. 14, has no shortage of supervillains. While the Red Hulk (Harrison Ford) has been featured extensively in marketing, the Leader (Tim Blake Nelson) and the Serpent Society haven’t had as much time in the spotlight. When Marvel announced their slate of movies for Phase 3 way back in 2014, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige duped fans by first announcing Captain America: Serpent Society before later revealing the film was actually titled Captain America: Civil War. It was a jokey misdirect, but it did at least hint that Feige had the infamous supervillain group on his mind.
