Georgia’s Abortion Dilemma: Why Hollywood Can’t Do the Right Thing
Seven months after the Georgia Gop campaigned to drastically restrict abortion access; 11 weeks after the state legislature introduced the Heartbeat Bill; and 20-odd days after Governor Brian Kemp signed Hb 481, making an abortion illegal after six weeks, Hollywood studios finally acknowledged that the state providing the nation’s most generous production incentives is also trying to strip women of their right to choose.

In response, Hollywood’s most powerful CEOs have declared… that they’re hedging their bets. Netflix is ready to “rethink” its investment in Georgia. WarnerMedia is preparing to “reconsider” shooting there. And Disney is “watching very carefully” to see if Hb 481 goes into effect.

Some filmmakers are not taking the wait-and-see approach. Director Reed Morano, actress Kristen Wiig, and producer Christine Vachon, among others, have said they will not shoot in Georgia. Producers Jordan Peele and JJ Abrams are donating their episodic fees from HBO’s “Lovecraft Country,...

Drive-In Dust Offs: The Power (1984)
All hail Film Ventures International. Long-time purveyors of cinematic sleaze and genre enchantment, they’ve produced or at least distributed some of my very favorite low budget wonders: Beyond the Door (1974), Grizzly (’76), The Incubus (1981), and Pieces (’82) are only some of their titles that have provided hours of entertainment, from the goofy to the sublime (which in their case, is often one and the same). One of their final releases, The Power (1984), is a good example of their often heady mix, and a solid springboard for directors Stephen Carpenter and Jeffrey Obrow on their way to their demented mutant mash The Kindred (’87).

Released in late January, The Power (Aka Evil Passage) didn’t do much business; playing in theatres for one weekend and bringing in just under a million dollars, head honcho Edward L. Montoro surely heading out the back door with a bagful of cash on his way to bankrupting the company.

10 titles in need of a DVD or Blu-Ray release - Second annual edition
Almost one year ago, when we launched at Big Daddy, one of our first posts was about 10 horror films in need of a DVD or Blu-Ray release. The Nesting and Twice Dead which both made the list are now either out on DVD or about to be released. Other titles that made the list included The Pack, Night Warning, Massacre at Central High, Dance of the Damned, Children of the Corn II: The Final Sacrifice, Deadly Blessing, The Kindred and Killer Party. With this second annual edition, we hope to spotlight more horror films that have fallen through the cracks. Titles that haven't been released beyond VHS (with the exception of one, that has only been released to VOD) that need the attention of us horror fans and distributors to make these titles readily available for our horror movie watching enjoyment.

Useless Trivia: Christopher Young track titles
Why should you buy the soundtracks of Christopher Young? Well, for instance the music is quite good on some of them. And if you want to have more fun with the release, check out the tracklisting. You're bound to find somehing along the lines of "Accelerated Brundle Disease" or "Dancing With a Wet Handkerchief on Your Mother's Grave". But wait, there's more! The CD of Hush for intance contains the following titles: "Hush", "Little Baby", "Don't You Cry", "Mama's Gonna Buy", "You", "A". It's all fun. If you pay close attention, you might also find that several Young releases contain pun homages to famous composers as well. Below I've gathered all I could find, now it's up to you to guess which composers are referenced in the track titles. I might add that some of them are only guesses and I couldn't find references some of Young's biggest works...
