In recognition of Noah Centineo’s status as one of Netflix’s top young stars, he served as a SAG Awards Ambassador for the streamer’s January 23 awards show telecast. Ten days later, Netflix canceled Centineo’s series, The Recruit, after two seasons.

The cancellation was surprising in itself and in its swiftness; it came less than five weeks after Season 2 dropped on January 30. While Netflix rewards breakout newcomers with quick renewals – most recently comedy Running Point earlier this week was picked up for Season 2 just seven days after its debut – the streamer usually takes awhile for its cancellation decisions, analyzing the long tail of a show’s performance before making the call.

The success of The Night Agent is apparently not a one-season phenomenon.

The Netflix thriller recorded its biggest week to date with the opening of its second season. The show amassed 3.11 billion minutes of viewing for the week of Jan. 20-26 (season two premiered Jan. 23), according to Nielsen’s streaming ratings, topping its previous best of 3.06 billion minutes in March 2023.

Nielsen says viewing of season two accounted for 76 percent of the weekly total, which works out to about 2.36 billion minutes.

After making its debut on the streaming charts a week earlier, Apple TV+’s Severance improved a little on that performance with 622 million minutes of viewing (a gain of about 6 percent week to week). That’s the highest weekly total for any Apple TV+ show since Ted Lasso in 2023.

Now that Hello Kitty's 50th anniversary year has come to an end, Sanrio president Tomokuni Tsuji is confident it has the mascots in reserve to weather future storms, namedropping those he believes could be the "next Hello Kitty."

Sanrio president Tomokuni Tsuji was asked in a recent interview with Nikkei who he believes the next Hello Kitty may be. "There are concerns about a reactionary swing following Hello Kitty's 50th anniversary, but 2025 will be a year in which we can show we are breaking away from volatility," he said. "Some companies will be attracted to Hello Kitty, whose brand value has increased over the past 24 years; for companies looking for an anniversary character, we could suggest My Melody (who debuted in 1975) or Kuromi (who debuted in 2005). I'm often asked what the next Hello Kitty will be, and Kuromi, My Melody, Cinnamoroll and Pompompurin are all possibilities."

Back in mid-January, the long-awaited second season of Xo, Kitty was released on Netflix, and fans everywhere were excited to see what was next for Kitty Song Covey. As expected, Kitty found herself in a whirlwind of new drama as she navigated the second semester of her junior year at Kiss. The teen matchmaker also had her fair share of relationship troubles as well.

The second season ended in a way where a third installment seemed inevitable, with there being some unresolved plotlines. Fans were also left wondering if an Xo, Kitty season 3 would happen after watching all eight episodes. Well, we finally have our answer on the popular teen show's fate.

On Valentine's Day 2025, Netflix announced its decision on whether to renew or cancel the series. But this isn't the only juicy information we learned about the show so far. We've also learned some other details that we absolutely must share.

Shondaland is giving us another White House scandal this spring. The Residence, a “screwball whodunit” set in the halls of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, will drop its eight-episode first season on Thursday, March 20. And now, we have a full-length trailer, which you can watch above.

That’s right, Xo, Kitty has been renewed for Season 3 and class will be back in session at the Korean Independent School of Seoul for senior year. But first, a summer of love is on the horizon for Kitty Song Covey (Anna Cathcart) and her friends.

Via a press release, retro-themed product manufacturer Retrospekt has released its new Hello Kitty Fc-11 35mm film camera. The camera goes for a summer feel, featuring a tomato aesthetic, a red and white gingham pattern reminiscent of a picnic loincloth, and custom Hello Kitty tomato artwork scattered across the camera body. Kitty White herself wears a tomato costume, while the camera's packaging embodies the same gingham pattern and more Hello Kitty artwork. Two of Japans most iconic pop culture franchises are pairing up thanks to an official collaboration between Sanrio and Sega. The partnership sees everyones favorite turquoise-haired Vocaloid, Hatsune Miku (among other characters), featuring on all-new merchandise together with the likes of Hello Kitty, Kuromi, My Melody and Pompompurin.

The merchandise, consisting of a collection of acrylic keychains released in three individual batches, or "volumes," is part of Sega Faves new capsule toy collaboration. The keychains are designed to be attached to bags, pouches or other items as an added accessory, with Volume 1 being released this month, Volume 2 in July and Volume 3 in August. Each keychain costs 400 yen -- approximately US$2.60 -- which can be collected from capsule toy corners throughout Japan (or via enterprising resellers).

Netflix has unveiled the slate of TV series set to release new seasons in 2024, and some of the streamer’s biggest series are not on the list, delayed by the writers and actors strikes.

Stranger Things‘ fifth and final season, which just started production earlier this month, will not debut until 2025, making for a three-year gap between both Seasons 3 and 4 (due to the pandemic) and Seasons 4 and 5.

Given the extensive VFX work involved in the series, which was originally slated to start filming Season 5 in May, the delay is not surprising.

Ditto for the series that dethroned Stranger Things as Netflix’s most popular series, Wednesday, which is not scheduled to begin production on Season 2 until late April in a new location, Ireland, and breakout new 2023 drama One Piece, which also is yet to start filming on its second season.

The latest Mobile Suit Gundam movie is getting promotion from an unexpected ally: Hello Kitty.

Per Oricon, Gundam parent company Sunrise and Hello Kitty owner Sanrio have teamed up with a rather strange form of advertisement. Meant to commemorate the release of the Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Freedom movie, the companies have released images uniting their characters. The result is a mash-up of familiar Cosmic Era Gundam characters and the friendly mascots of Sanrio.

American R&b pop artist and now Jujutsu Kaisen cosplayer Usher has let slip spoilers for anime-only fans of the franchise, in the process sparking speculation regarding the 2024 Superbowl.

In promotion of Usher's new song with Jung Kook, "Standing Next to You - Usher Remix," the singer-songwriter gained attention for a video he uploaded to TikTok, dressing similarly to Gojo Satoru and referencing his iconic Domain Expansion hand sign. However, the description of the video spoils the upcoming story for fans who have only seen the anime, reading, "Rip Gojo, We're standing next to you...#satorugojo #jujustukaisen [sic] #cominghome." Fans on social media reacted not only to Usher's Jujutsu Kaisen co-sign but his huge spoiler.

2023 has come to a close, and it is time to take a look at the winners and losers of the year among Netflix’s Original titles.

For this review, we used our very own Cve metric after 14 days to have more titles to compare on a more equal foot, and we also used IMDb to get a sense of the most liked titles of the year.

Let’s begin with one category with some heavy hitters – Netflix’s lineup of English-language movies.

The 2nd Annual Children’s and Family Emmy Awards announced their nominations on November 2, with “Sesame Street” and “The Mysterious Benedict Society” among the top contenders. These awards used to be handed out as part of the Daytime Emmys, but they were shifted to their own separate ceremony as part of an overall restructuring of all Emmy events. Rachel Schwartz, Director of the Daytime and Children’s and Family Emmy Awards, said in a statement, “We are very proud of the growth experienced in year two of the Children’s and Family Emmys, especially in the development and cultivation of the new categories dedicated to puppetry.”

Brent Stanton, Head of the Daytime and Children’s and Family Emmy Awards, added, “Programming created for children’s and family viewing has a long history of leading the way in innovation and storytelling.

The nominees for the second annual Children’s & Family Emmy Awards are out, and a lot of familiar faces are among the honorees.

The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced this year’s nominees on Thursday, with nominated shows featuring The Muppets, Sesame Street and Marvel and Star Wars characters, among others. Disney+’s The Muppets Mayhem scored a nod for best children’s or family viewing series, with Sesame Street nominated for best preschool series, I Am Groot for best short form program and Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures for best preschool animated series.

Sanrio recently announced a new fantasy franchise titled Fragaria Memories that transforms some of their most beloved characters, including Hello Kitty, into cute anime boys.

According to a report by ComicBook.com earlier this week, the three main boys are knights in a fantasy world, whose character designs are based on Hello Kitty, Cinnamoroll and Bad Badtz-Maru.

Sanrio's Fragaria Memories Franchise

The newest Sanrio franchise, Fragaria Memories, has not yet been confirmed for any anime shorts or audio dramas as of this writing; however, the characters have been given voice actors, hinting at the possibility. Hallritt, whose design is based on Hello Kitty, will be voiced by Gakuto Kajiwara (Black Clover), Cielomort, who is based on Cinnamoroll, will be voiced by Nobunaga Shimazaki and Badobarm, based on Bad Badtz-Maru, will be voiced by Shunsuke Takeuchi. It's official - "Xo, Kitty" has been renewed for a second season. Netflix confirmed the news on June 14 with an adorable video of the moment the cast found out about the renewal. "pssst... Xo, Kitty Is Renewed For Season 2, pass it on!!!" the show's official Instagram account captioned the clip.

It’s official – Xo, Kitty has been renewed for season two. Netflix’s spinoff of the popular To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before films debuted in May 2023 and immediately took over the #2 spot on the most popular English TV list.

“Xo, Kitty takes place in the same universe as To All the Boys, but it’s very much its own world. So fresh audiences can love it and then go back and watch the movies and read the books if they want,” said co-showrunner Sascha Rothchild in an interview with Netflix’s Tudum.
