Earlier this fall, HBO and Channel 4 shared their new collaboration Get Millie Black with international audiences. Developed by prolific Jamaican novelist Marlon James, the series was filmed in 2022 and began airing this November.

The series follows Millie-Jean Black (Tamara Lawrence), a Jamaican detective serving the Jamaican Police Force after being controversially ousted by Scotland Yard. Known for her independence and resourcefulness, Black moves at her own pace, disregarding traditional police protocol. When the case of a missing girl arrives at her desk, Millie approaches the dire situation with the utmost urgency. However, the case forces Millie to confront her tumultuous past, treatment of her friends, and her relationship with her work.

A new HBO crime drama is maintaining its perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes, even as more reviews in. The cable network is synonymous with the genre, going back to The Sopranos and its impact on television as a whole. But even in recent years, with shows like Mare of Easttown and Sharp Objects, some of HBO's best shows have blended murder and mystery with more personal stakes and character studies.

This year has been no different, kicking off with True Detective season 4. Led by Jodie Foster and Kali Reis, with Issa López as showrunner and director, the anthology's return garnered strong reviews and solid reviews. The Penguin followed that same path, with praise for Colin Farrell, Cristin Miloti, and the fact that creator Lauren LeFranc told a compelling crime drama that didn't necessarily have to exist within Batman's world. One of HBO's newest originals looks to keep the trend going.

After it was revealed that the controversial politician had promoted a member of Parliament to a senior whipping position despite knowledge of sexual misconduct allegations against the man, Johnson faced a series of high profile defections and resignations within his party.
