Defender for F.C. Schalke 04 (2009-10), FC St. Pauli (2010-2012), Eintracht Frankfurt (2012-2016), F.C. Rubin Kazan (2016-17), PAOK FC (2017), F.C. Dynamo Kyiv (2018, 2019), F.C. Basel (2018-19) and Boca Juniors (2020-).

Played with Peru U17 and U20 from 2005-2009.

International with Peru National Football Team since 2008.

Member of the Peru National team who finished 3rd place at the 2015 Copa América and runners-up at the 2019 Copa América.
