British broadcaster, journalist and writer.

She studied French and drama at the University of Hull.

She was awarded the O.B.E. (Officer of the Order of the British Empire)in the 1999 Queen's Honors List for her services to broadcasting.

She was made a Dame Commander in 2011, in recognition of her services to broadcasting.

She was awarded the Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire in the 2011 Queen's Birthday Honours List for her services to radio broadcasting. She is the Presenter for BBC's Women Hour on the radio.
