- Close friend of director George Cukor, who frequently cast Evans in his films, often uncredited. Greta Garbo asked Cukor, on the set of La dama de las Camelias (1936), "Who is that big man, and what part is he playing?" Cukor replied, "He's playing the part of a friend who needs a job." He appeared in ten of Cukor's films, counting Evans' appearance in Cukor's uncredited work on Sed de vivir (1956).
- Solidly-built British comic actor with cabaret and music hall experience. Came to the U.S. to act on Broadway in the 1930's, then segued into movies as stately butlers or affluent businessmen. As a sideline to his acting career, he operated a successful art gallery in Hollywood.
