She was nominated for Outstanding Newcomer at the 2003 London Evening Standard Theatre Awards for her performance in Eastward Ho! at the Gielgud Theatre.

A talented stage actress, Amanda enrolled at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in London, graduating in 1992 when she was 23. Having made a name for her on the West End and at the Royal Court Theatre with various productions, she went on to join the Royal Shakespeare Company in 2001 when she was 32.

She was educated at Beauchamp College in Oadby, Leicestershire before deciding upon a career as an actress.
