As well as being a hugely popular actor, he also enjoyed pop success. In October 1986, he spent three weeks at number one in the UK singles chart with "Every Loser Wins", a song he had performed in an episode of Gente de barrio (1985). In 1992, he reached number two in the UK singles chart with his version of the title song of Heartbeat (1992).

He became a father for the first time at the age of 32 when his wife Rachel Robertson gave birth to their son Louis Valentine Berry in April 1995. He became a father for the second time at the age of 35 when she gave birth to their son Finley Frederick Berry in June 1998.

He started his own production company "Valentine Productions".

In 1986, he named Clark Gable as his favourite actor and Vivien Leigh as his favourite actress.

He was ranked #33 in the 100 Greatest Gente de barrio (1985) Characters of All Time for his performance as Simon Wicks in 2010 and #37 in The 100 Greatest Gente de barrio (1985) Characters of All Time for his performance as Simon Wicks in 2015.

I've basically turned into my dad. I've got a shed and a vegetable patch, and I'm pleased to report my peas are doing very well. I'm at my happiest there.
