- As a pre-law student at the University of Dayton, he visited New York in the 1940s and approached the Ethel Barrymore Theater. Merely eager to see the inside of a major Broadway theater, he asked two guys outside in the alley, whom he assumed were stagehands, if he could take a quick look. "Buy a ticket," one of them advised him. After paying $1.80. Aldredge watched as the purported "stagehands" - Marlon Brando and Karl Malden - strode out to perform in "A Streetcar Named Desire." After that, Aldredge said, his ambitions to become a lawyer suddenly changed.
- His wife, Theona Aldredge, a costume designer, was nominated for Broadway's Tony 15 times between 1961 and 2001, winning the Tony three times.
- Tom was attending the Art Institute of Chicago, Goodman School of Theatre, in 1949, studying acting. Tom's future wife Theoni arrived from Athens on a Goodman scholarship at the drama school. Romance followed with Tom and Theoni's marriage in December, 1953. Theoni, upon completion of her degree, accepted a Costume Design teaching position with the Goodman's staff, remaining until June, 1957. Departing Chicago, Theoni moved to NYC, joining Tom, where he had relocated pursuing acting gigs on the off/on Broadway circuit of productions and acting opportunities.
