An accomplished drummer, he played with Bruce Willis's band at the Borgata Hotel. He and friend Joe Pesci played together early in their careers as musicians, and then again were featured in four movies together, three of them directed by Martin Scorsese.

While on location for a film shoot in Rhode Island, a 12-year-old boy asked for his autograph to which he asked, "You know who I am?". He wasn't prepared when the boy answered, "You're a made man.".

Originally auditioned for the role of "Uncle Junior" in Los Soprano (1999), but the show's creator and executive producer David Chase felt that, with Michael Imperioli and Lorraine Bracco already on board as series leads, the show's principal cast would be too top-heavy with Buenos muchachos (1990) alumni.

Father was an ironworker who worked atop New York City skyscrapers.

He and old New Jersey buddy Joe Pesci once did a vaudeville-style comedy act modeled on Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis. Needless to say, they fell a bit short of their role models.
