His "Droopy"-ish voice, he used in most of his characters is where his fame originated.

Roles in Disney films (Los Aristogatos (1970), Peter Pan (1953), La dama y el vagabundo (1955), Alicia en el país de las maravillas (1951), La bella durmiente (1959))

He died a year after the release of Los Aristogatos (1970), his final acting role.

Served in the United States Navy during World War II.

Had portrayed Horatio K. Boomer, Nick Depopoulous, the Old-Timer, Vodka, Uncle Dennis and Wallace Whimple on NBC Radio's "Fibber McGee and Molly" during the 1930s and 1940s. His character Whimple had the same voice as his later cartoon creation Droopy Dog.

He was awarded a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for Radio at 7021 Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood, California.

He has appeared in two films that have been selected for the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically or aesthetically" significant: La dama y el vagabundo (1955) & La bella durmiente (1959).
