An enthusiastic supporter of gay rights and homosexual marriage.

After 27 years of marriage and two daughters, Phillip officially announced that he was gay. This Morning (1988) co-host Holly Willoughby read the official statement on air as composed by Schofield.

He and his wife Stephanie have two daughters, Ruby and Molly. Stephanie's sister is the producer Georgina Lowe.

He owns an EMI 2001 television camera.
