"Footage" is likely the first found-footage film in Malayalam cinema, a genre that has seen success in various film industries globally.

Saiju, known for his exceptional editing skills, takes on the role of director in this film. The editing is undoubtedly the strongest aspect of "Footage," with long, continuous shots that are seamlessly edited to create a smooth viewing experience.

The film shines technically, particularly in the interval sequence, underwater scenes, and intricately choreographed fight sequences, all executed in single, unbroken shots-a commendable achievement.

Vishak and Gayathri excel in their roles, delivering strong performances that are well-suited to the plot. Their intimate scenes are particularly well-executed, with both actors giving their best. However, the dialogues fall short, making it difficult for the audience to connect with the characters. For instance, a phone conversation between Gayathri and her mother, along with a balcony scene, aimed at deepening character development, fail due to overly philosophical and insensitive dialogue.

Manju Warrier's character is underdeveloped, leaving little room for the audience to empathize with her actions.

Despite limited screen time, she brings an intriguing mystery to her role and makes the most of her limited opportunities, delivering a DECENT performance.

The movie is a found-footage style film, and like most others in this genre, it successfully delivers moments that are gripping, intense, and keep you on the edge of your seat. The shaky camera work and first-person perspective add to the immersion, making you feel like you're right there with the characters. The visuals, sound design, and atmosphere are top-notch, especially in scenes set in the forest, where the wind and rain create an eerie, unsettling mood. However, I wasn't a fan of the ending-it felt abrupt, as if they just wrapped it up without proper closure. Still, it's a decent watch.
