George Clooney received familiar support on opening night of his Broadway debut this week. Three of his former ER co-stars—Julianna Margulies, Anthony Edwards, and Noah Wyle—attended the premiere of Good Night, and Good Luck, a stage adaptation of the 2005 film Clooney directed and co-wrote.
Wyle shared a black-and-white group photo on Instagram the following day, writing, “So very proud of my friend. So very happy for the reunion.” The four actors were original cast members of ER, which premiered in 1994 and aired on NBC for 15 seasons until 2009.
This was the first time all four had been photographed together in person in more than twenty years. Their last group appearance happened virtually during the pandemic in 2021. The reunion offered a rare public moment of connection among castmates who helped define a pivotal era in network television drama.

Twenty years after bringing the story of newsman Edward R. Murrow and his efforts to thwart Sen. Joseph McCarthy and the Red Scare to the screen in Good Night, and Good Luck — a work that earned six Oscar nominations — George Clooney has adapted the film for the Broadway stage. Two decades older now, too, Clooney makes his Broadway debut playing Murrow, who was portrayed in the film by David Strathairn in an Oscar-nominated performance. Tony winner David Cromer takes the reins from Clooney as director, pulling double duty this spring with this massive screen-to-stage adaptation and the much-anticipated new musical Dead Outlaw.
Reviews of Good Night, and Good Luck, which opened on Thursday, April 4 at the historic Winter Garden Theatre and stars an ensemble of 20-plus performers, were decidedly mixed.
Jesse Green of The New York Times deems the new play a Critic's Pick, calling it "powerful" with "suave direction" from Cromer.

Broadway’s 2024-25 season has gotten off to a rather extraordinarily fine start, from the wildly popular and hysterically funny Oh, Mary! to the fabulous splash of Death Becomes Her and the wonderful left-field sleeper Maybe Happy Ending. There have been a few clunkers — looking at you, Tammy Faye — but if the spring season holds the ratio, theatergoers have much to look forward to.
This compendium of Deadline’s Broadway reviews for the season might offer some guidance through what will be a very show-packed spring. No fewer than 18 shows are scheduled to open in March and April and of the Tony Awards nominations and show, and we’ll be reviewing them all.
Here’s the upcoming lineup: Boop! The Betty Boop Musical (April 5), The Last Five Years (April 6), Stephen Sondheim’s Old Friends (April 8), Smash (April 10), John Proctor is the Villain (April 14), Floyd Collins (April 21), Stranger Things: The First Shadow...

George Clooney‘s wife Amal was noticeably absent from his big Broadway debut.

Late in the action of Good Night, and Good Luck, Clark Gregg — in a moving performance as CBS newscaster Don Hollenbeck, banged up by his recent divorce and a persistent smear campaign branding him as a “pinko” — makes the melancholy observation: “I wake up in the morning, and I don’t recognize anything. I feel like I went to sleep three years ago, and somebody hijacked … as if all reasonable people took a plane to Europe and left us behind.” You know you’re in a New York City audience in 2025 when those words are followed by showstopping applause.
Whatever gains are made in reworking George Clooney’s terrific 2005 feature of the same name — his second outing as director and still his best — for the stage, the material’s timeliness packs a wallop. When the movie was released, questions of media responsibility and freedom to voice political dissent were already pertinent to the national discourse.

There are moments in Good Night, and Good Luck, the new play by George Clooney and Grant Heslov opening on Broadway tonight at the Winter Garden Theatre and starring Clooney as pioneering TV journalist Edward R. Murrow, when the anti-authoritarian passions of all three men are made very clear. Anti-McCarthyism in Murrow’s case, anti-Trumpism for Clooney and, one presumes, Heslow. Unfortunately, more often than not, that clarity comes through speechifying, minor-key tirades and copious use of ’50s-era TV clips that make plain the all-too-obvious parallels between then and now.
We know when, in history and in the play, the inevitable “Have you no sense of decency?” will arrive to put Senator Joseph McCarthy out of America’s misery. When, the play not so subtly wonders, will Donald Trump face the same path?

The Oscar-winning actor co-wrote the play with his longtime creative partner Grant Heslov and it’s based on the film that they also wrote together.

Good Night and Good Luck, starring George Clooney, was the highest grossing show on Broadway again last week, even as its grosses took a slight dip.
After breaking the record for highest weekly gross for a play, Good Night and Good Luck fell $22,558 last week, amid a few comped press performances. The play still brought in an enormous $3.28 million, and played to a more than 100 percent capacity with an average ticket price of $298.83. The play, starring and co-written by George Clooney, opens at the Winter Garden Theatre on April 3.
Othello, starring Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhaal, shot back up to $3.1 million last week, after experiencing a slight downturn the prior week due to press performances and an opening night. While the play received mixed to negative reviews, it is still selling well with an average ticket price of $378.73, the highest in the industry, and 100 percent capacity at the Barrymore Theatre.

Six new Broadway productions opened in March, inaugurating the spring season and foreshadowing the 12 additional openings to come before Tony Awards nominations are announced. See below for a breakdown of how our official odds have changed since our last predictions update on March 6, as Gold Derby users, editors, and experts have been updating their predictions based on performances and critics reviews.
Up
Purpose: Prior to opening, our users were only predicting a single nomination for this new American family drama for its Tony-winning featured actress Kara Young. Since the glowing critical response to playwright Branden Jacobs-Jenkins' latest effort, it has surged with three additional expected bids for Best Play, featured actress Latanya Richardson Jackson, and director Phylicia Rashad. It certainly hasn’t hit its ceiling yet, either, as its lead actor Jon Michael Hill and featured actor Harry Lennix are both within striking distance in sixth place in their respective categories.

George Clooney’s First Movie Was A Box Office Disaster: Here’s Why Hollywood Wants You To Forget It!
George Clooney First Movie(Photo Credit –Wikimedia)
Very few people remember George Clooney’s first movie, and honestly, that’s for the best. Before he became one of Hollywood’s biggest stars, he made his feature film debut in Return to Horror High (1987) – a movie that was, well, a total disaster.
“Return to Horror High is an early example of meta-horror, and it was completely ahead of its time,” Looper once noted. “That’s not to say the film is good.” And that about sums it up.
Clooney played Oliver, an actor in a low-budget slasher film being shot inside an actual murder site—a high school where grisly killings had taken place. The movie tried to be a mix of horror and comedy, but critics weren’t laughing. According to Rotten Tomatoes reviewer Dustin Putman, it had “only one scene that is actually scary, and it has to do...

Many A-list actors have begun their careers with modest salaries before they hiked it up to millions of dollars. Then, there are actors like Ryan Gosling and George Clooney, who willingly agree to work for breadcrumbs because they see the potential in those films. There are even actors who worked for free just because they were so passionate about the film.

Should rom-coms be reserved for men of a certain age? Well, Hollywood star, George Clooney, seems to think so. A two-time Sexiest Man Alive, Clooney was one of the hottest stars of the aughties and among the industry's most bankable talents. Never one to be typecast, he has showcased his versatility across a range of roles. However, his natural charm made him a perfect fit for romantic films, and he shined in the few he took on. While his charisma remains as strong as ever, it seems Clooney has now decided on the kind of roles that best suit him going forward, and rom-coms are no longer part of the plan.
Even after decades in the business, Clooney continues to challenge his craft. He recently made his Broadway debut in Good Night, and Good Luck, a stage adaptation of the 2005 film he directed and starred in. In his latest interview with 60 Minutes,...

Good Night and Good Luck, starring George Clooney, broke the record for highest weekly gross for a play last week, with an eye-popping $3.3 million.
That total was brought in across only seven preview performances, and bests the record set by Othello, starring Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhall. Othello initially broke the record for highest-grossing play the week of March 3, with $2.8 million, and then broke its own record the following week with $2.82 million.
Good Night and Good Luck achieved the new record with an average ticket price of $302.07 and capacity of 101 percent at the Winter Garden Theater. The play, which sees Clooney play the journalist Edward R. Murrow as he takes aim at Sen. Joseph McCarthy, broke the record during its second week of previews and is scheduled to open April 3.

A couple of days after Hollywood star George Clooneyappeared on the CBS news program 60 Minutes to promote his new Broadway show, President Donald Trump has responded to the actor via social media. Although Clooney did not exactly point fingers during his appearance on the CBS show, he did say that "governments don't like the freedom of the press." It appears that he may have hit a nerve, and once again, Trump has expressed his disdain for the actor, calling him a "second rate movie star."
As reported by Variety, Clooney is currently promoting the stage version of Good Night, and Good Luck, his 2005 Academy Award-nominated movie starring David Strathairn as Edward R. Murrow. The film portrays the journalist's clash (usually broadcast live on television) against U.S. Senator Joseph McCarthy in the times of McCarthyism, and the witch hunt that ensued when far too many Americans were accused of communism.

It wouldn’t be referred to as the Free World without democracy and dissent co-existing among the people. However, the US takes the thought a step further by having movie stars and business moguls battle it out in the public sphere. In the latest round of bouts, George Clooney and Donald Trump are battling it out in a clash of back-and-forth insults.

As such, when movie stars and celebrities like Clooney and Robert De Niro use every public platform at their disposal on every possible opportunity to call out the country’s leader, it is a dangerous but powerful statement.

George Clooney is arguably one of the most popular leading men in Hollywood. However, the actor says he no longer has much interest in the romance genre.
"Look, I'm 63 years old. I'm not trying to compete with 25-year-old leading men," Clooney told 60 Minutes. That's not my job. I'm not doing romantic films anymore," he added. The actor is currently preparing for his Broadway debut in the upcoming production of Good Night, and Good Luck. The stage play is adapted from the 2005 film of the same name which starred David Strathairn as the newsman.
Clooney, who appeared in the movie as Fred Friendly, co-wrote the play with Grant Heslov. When asked if he wished he had made the move to Broadway sooner, the actor was candid with his response. "I don't know that I could have. I didn't do the work required to get there," he explained. "There isn't a...

As comedians were joking about Donald Trump at the Kennedy Center’s Mark Twain Prize on Sunday night, the president was fixated on a 60 Minutes segment about George Clooney.
The actor is starring on Broadway as Edward R. Murrow in an adaption of Good Night, and Good Luck.
Trump wrote on Truth Social, “Why would the now highly discredited 60 Minutes be doing a total ‘puff piece’ on George Clooney, a second rate movie ‘star,’ and failed political pundit. He fought hard for Sleepy Joe’s election and then, right after the Debate, dumped him like a dog. Later, I assume under orders from the Obama camp, pushed all out for ‘Kamala,’ only to soon realize that that was not going to work out to well.”
In the 60 Minutes segment, Clooney didn’t name Trump, but referred to the president’s attacks on the media. That included Trump...

George Clooney spoke with 60 Minutes tonight about the upcoming Broadway adaptation of his Oscar-nominated movie, Good Night, and Good Luck. In the play Clooney, now 63, plays newsman Edward R. Murrow, a role he said he was not ready to play when he directed the film in 2005.
“Murrow had a gravitas to him that at 42 years old I didn’t — I wasn’t able to pull off,” he told 60 Minutes’ Jon Wertheim.
The flip side of that, said Clooney, is that there are roles he once played for which he’s now no longer a fit.
“Look, I’m 63 years old,” the actor told Wertheim. “I’m not trying to compete with 25-year-old leading men. That’s not my job. I’m not doing romantic films anymore.”
Not that he’s been doing many, anyway.
While Clooney was promoting Ticket to Paradise in 2022, he noted that he hadn’t made a romantic comedy since 1996.

No doubt about: The big guns of Broadway’s spring season are arriving fast and furious, and boosting box office figures from receipts to ticket prices. Another newcomer – Good Night, And Good Luck, starring George Clooney, last week became the latest member of the $2 Million Club with just five previews and just weeks after Othello, starring Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhaal, began regularly hitting the rarefied $2 million in weekly receipts.
Also last week Glengarry Glen Ross, headed by Kieran Culkin, Bob Odenkirk and Bill Burr, came very close to the $2M mark with $1,907,467, a house record at the Palace Theatre – and that’s just for seven preview performances; the full eight-performance schedule should push it over the edge. (Opening night is March 31.)
Meanwhile, The Picture of Dorian Gray, starring Succession‘s Sarah Snook in all the roles, pulled in $848,904 for its first six, sold-out previews at the Music Box Theatre.

A new musical featuring the songs of James Taylor is in development.
The project, entitled Fire & Rain, will feature an original story written by Tony and Pulitzer Prize winner Tracy Letts and direction by Tony Award winner David Cromer.
The show is in early development stages and a production timeline has not yet been announced. Gail Berman, Sam Feldman, Michael Gorfaine and Broadway theater owner Jimmy Nederlander are producing in association with Frank Marshall and Jere Harris.
The title for the show comes from Taylor’s well-known song, “Fire and Rain,” which was released in 1970 on his second album, Sweet Baby James, and reached number three on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. George Clooney’s op-ed urging Joe Biden to drop out of the 2024 presidential election was considered a major turning point in the beleaguered former president’s campaign.
Now the veteran actor is explaining why he thought Donald Trump won instead of Biden’s top-of-the-ballot replacement, Vice President Kamala Harris.
His explanation reflects a common refrain among Democratic supporters since November: It wasn’t the policies that were unpopular, it was the messaging that was ineffective.
“The Biden administration was terrible at explaining that we’re a world economy, where we were actually doing better than all the other G7 countries,” Clooney told The New York Times in a profile published online late Thursday. “They were bad at telling the story because their messenger was not working at his best, to say the least.”

In a new interview with the New York Times, the actor commented on the Biden team’s issues ahead of Trump’s election.
“The Biden administration was terrible at explaining that we’re a world economy, where we were actually doing better than all the other G7 countries,” Clooney told the publication. “They were bad at telling the story because their messenger was not working at his best,...

The presidential election isn't what George Clooney was hoping for, but don't expect the Academy Award-winning actor to get too riled up about it. During an appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert to promote the Broadway adaptation of his critically acclaimed film Good Night, and Good Luck, Clooney spoke about Donald Trump's election victory. As many will recall, Clooney was a vocal supporter of former Vice President Kamala Harris.
Although Trump's presidency is not what Clooney wanted, the actor and filmmaker stood behind the democratic process, asking host Stephen Colbert:
"What am I supposed to do? You know, storm the f**king Capitol?"
Clooney was referring to the January 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol, where approximately 2,000 to 2,500 rioters entered the Capitol building; some participated in looting, vandalism, and assault on Capitol police and journalists. Since commencing his second term, Trump has pardoned about 1,500 rioters.

Host Stephen Colbert asked Clooney, who will embody Murrow on stage, “Why do you think it’s a good idea to bring back a play right now about a man in journalism who is standing up against both corporate and political interests?...
