George Clooney received familiar support on opening night of his Broadway debut this week. Three of his former ER co-stars—Julianna Margulies, Anthony Edwards, and Noah Wyle—attended the premiere of Good Night, and Good Luck, a stage adaptation of the 2005 film Clooney directed and co-wrote.

Wyle shared a black-and-white group photo on Instagram the following day, writing, “So very proud of my friend. So very happy for the reunion.” The four actors were original cast members of ER, which premiered in 1994 and aired on NBC for 15 seasons until 2009.

This was the first time all four had been photographed together in person in more than twenty years. Their last group appearance happened virtually during the pandemic in 2021. The reunion offered a rare public moment of connection among castmates who helped define a pivotal era in network television drama.

The 63-year-old Oscar-winning actor celebrated the official red carpet opening of his play Good Night, and Good Luck on Thursday (April 3) at the Winter Garden Theatre in New York City.

While several of his famous friends and former co-stars attended the opening, Amal, 47, skipped the big event.

Whatever gains are made in reworking George Clooney’s terrific 2005 feature of the same name — his second outing as director and still his best — for the stage, the material’s timeliness packs a wallop. When the movie was released, questions of media responsibility and freedom to voice political dissent were already pertinent to the national discourse.

There are moments in Good Night, and Good Luck, the new play by George Clooney and Grant Heslov opening on Broadway tonight at the Winter Garden Theatre and starring Clooney as pioneering TV journalist Edward R. Julia Roberts got to see her friend George Clooney‘s Broadway debut!

The 57-year-old Oscar winner stopped by his play Good Night, and Good Luck along with her husband Danny Moder and one of their kids (not pictured), Henry, 17, on Tuesday evening (April 1) in New York City.

Julia, Danny, and Henry exited through the stage door, and George followed behind. George did stop to sign autographs for fans waiting outside.

If you don’t know, George and Julia previously worked together in 2001′s Ocean’s Eleven, 2002′s Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, 2004′s Ocean’s Twelve, 2016′s Money Monster, and 2022′s Ticket to Paradise.

Good Night and Good Luck, starring George Clooney, was the highest grossing show on Broadway again last week, even as its grosses took a slight dip.

After breaking the record for highest weekly gross for a play, Good Night and Good Luck fell $22,558 last week, amid a few comped press performances. The play still brought in an enormous $3.28 million, and played to a more than 100 percent capacity with an average ticket price of $298.83. The play, starring and co-written by George Clooney, opens at the Winter Garden Theatre on April 3.

Othello, starring Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhaal, shot back up to $3.1 million last week, after experiencing a slight downturn the prior week due to press performances and an opening night. While the play received mixed to negative reviews, it is still selling well with an average ticket price of $378.73, the highest in the industry, and 100 percent capacity at the Barrymore Theatre.

Update, with additional figures: Good Night, And Good Luck, the new play at the 1,545-seat Winter Garden Theatre co-written by and starring George Clooney in his Broadway debut, shattered the weekly box office record for a play last week by grossing $3,305,240 for just seven preview performances.

The new record – the largest weekly gross by a play in Broadway history – replaces the previous record of $2,824,493 (for eight performances) set earlier this month by Othello starring Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhaal. Othello, which opened to mixed reviews, is playing at the 1,043-seat Ethel Barrymore Theatre.

Both productions were among the top three earners on Broadway last week – the week ending March 23 – with Good Night taking the top spot, Wicked at #2 with $2,545,281 and Othello at #3 with $2,529,484.

Average ticket prices for those three shows was $303.15 for Othello, $302.07 for Good Night and $165.19 for Wicked. Othello had the top premium ticket price ($897), followed by Glengarry Glen...

Good Night and Good Luck achieved the new record with an average ticket price of $302.07 and capacity of 101 percent at the Winter Garden Theater. Donald Trump has taken aim at the actor and prominent Democrat activist George Clooney, dismissing his interview on US TV news programme 60 Minutes as a “total puff piece”.

The Oscar-winning star was the subject of Sunday’s show to promote his Broadway debut, in a stage version of the film Good Night, and Good Luck, in which he plays veteran journalist Edward R Murrow, who took part in a historic TV showdown with Senator Joseph McCarthy.

George Clooney spoke with 60 Minutes tonight about the upcoming Broadway adaptation of his Oscar-nominated movie, Good Night, and Good Luck. In the play Clooney, now 63, plays newsman Edward R. Murrow, a role he said he was not ready to play when he directed the film in 2005.

“Murrow had a gravitas to him that at 42 years old I didn’t — I wasn’t able to pull off,” he told 60 Minutes’ Jon Wertheim.

The flip side of that, said Clooney, is that there are roles he once played for which he’s now no longer a fit.

“Look, I’m 63 years old,” the actor told Wertheim. “I’m not trying to compete with 25-year-old leading men. That’s not my job. I’m not doing romantic films anymore.”

No doubt about: The big guns of Broadway’s spring season are arriving fast and furious, and boosting box office figures from receipts to ticket prices. Another newcomer – Good Night, And Good Luck, starring George Clooney, last week became the latest member of the $2 Million Club with just five previews and just weeks after Othello, starring Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhaal, began regularly hitting the rarefied $2 million in weekly receipts.

Also last week Glengarry Glen Ross, headed by Kieran Culkin, Bob Odenkirk and Bill Burr, came very close to the $2M mark with $1,907,467, a house record at the Palace Theatre – and that’s just for seven preview performances; the full eight-performance schedule should push it over the edge. (Opening night is March 31.)

Meanwhile, The Picture of Dorian Gray, starring Succession‘s Sarah Snook in all the roles, pulled in $848,904 for its first six, sold-out previews at the Music Box Theatre.

The stars descended on Broadway last week and boosted industry grosses, as Othello continued its rise and celebrities including George Clooney, Kieran Culkin and Sarah Snook joined the boards.

Othello broke its own record, set the week of March 3, for highest weekly gross for a play. The play, starring Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhaal, brought in $2.82 million last week, about $6,000 above the prior week.

The average ticket price remains high at $338.83, and the play continues to fill the Barrymore Theatre at 100 percent capacity. Othello opens on Broadway March 23.

Good Night, and Good Luck, starring Geoge Clooney, brought in a massive $2.36 million in its first five previews at the Winter Garden Theater. The play, which is also co-written by Clooney, had the next highest average ticket price in the industry last week, at $303.75 and played to just above 100 percent capacity. The show is set to open April 3.

A new musical featuring the songs of James Taylor is in development.

The project, entitled Fire & Rain, will feature an original story written by Tony and Pulitzer Prize winner Tracy Letts and direction by Tony Award winner David Cromer.

The show is in early development stages and a production timeline has not yet been announced. Gail Berman, Sam Feldman, Michael Gorfaine and Broadway theater owner Jimmy Nederlander are producing in association with Frank Marshall and Jere Harris.

The title for the show comes from Taylor’s well-known song, “Fire and Rain,” which was released in 1970 on his second album, Sweet Baby James, and reached number three on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The six-time Grammy Award winning singer and songwriter, whose hit songs include “You’ve Got a Friend” and “Sweet Baby James,” has not previously had his catalog used in a major theatrical production. George Clooney and his wife Amal are hosting a select amount of guests in Lake Como, Italy!

The couple are set to hold a five-day fundraiser later this year for their Clooney Foundation for Justice, where they will host 16 guests, and the minimum buy in is a $60,000 donation to the foundation, according to Variety.

The event is being organized by Emma Ponsonby, CEO of Satopia Group, and those looking to participate will have to spend a minimum of “€160,000 per room (based on double occupancy) at the Passalacqua hotel, an opulent 18th century villa with frescoed suites, grand staircases and fountains overlooking the lake on land once owned by Pope Innocent XI.”

The 63-year-old Oscar-winning actor debuted his new brown hair color while stepping out for lunch with Amal on Sunday afternoon (March 9) at Raoul’s French restaurant in New York City.

George showed off his new hair while wearing a black leather jacket paired with tan pants as the 47-year-old barrister and international human rights lawyer wore a cropped plaid jacket, flared jeans, and oversized sunglasses.

The couple was joined for lunch by their attorney and friend, Kevin Johnson.

The hit musical Mamma Mia! is returning to Broadway this summer after a 10-year intermission.

The musical – with casting to be announced later – will begin previews at Broadway’s Winter Garden Theatre on August 2, with an opening night set for August 14. The limited engagement will run through February 1, 2026.

The musical originally ran on Broadway from October 2001 to September 2015.

Since then, productions of the musical have appeared around the world, including North American and international tours, London and Toronto engagements, among others.

Now the veteran actor is explaining why he thought Donald Trump won instead of Biden’s top-of-the-ballot replacement, Vice President Kamala Harris.

His explanation reflects a common refrain among Democratic supporters since November: It wasn’t the policies that were unpopular, it was the messaging that was ineffective.

Based on the 2005 movie about pioneering TV journalist Edward R. Murrow set during the McCarthy Era, Clooney will play Murrow. Clooney wrote the play adaptation with Grant Heslov, as they did the original screenplay.
