Not sure whether the set was supposed to be artificial, and the acting overblown, but after an hour I did not care and left the theater. Streams of tears without reason, "dirt" makeup that had clearly been artificially applied, a dramatic attempted kiss that the audience could see five minutes before, actors appearing on stage in a mechanically timed sequence. Maybe it was all deeply ironic, and we were supposed to laugh at these actors playing actors in a family filled with melodrama and artifice, but the audience at this Manhattan theater that was a mere five minutes from Broadway were silent, and some were somnolent. the opening song was good, but after that, it was meaningless and pointless.
I'm not sure why this movie has received such universal abuse from reviewers.
Admittedly, it's not as inspired as some past Jaglom offerings (certainly not as inspired as "Hollywood Dreams", which I absolutely loved), but on a moment-by-moment basis it is certainly interesting and colorful enough to be worthwhile--contrary to what reviewers would have their readers believe.
I'm even more puzzled by how reviewers seem to have taken to bleating in unison that Jaglom has all along turned out nothing but tiresome nonsense.
Have they seriously forgotten such marvels as "Tracks", "New Year's Day", "Venice/Venice", "Last Summer in the Hamptons", and (the aforementioned) "Hollywood Dreams"?

I absolutely loved it. It's SUPPOSED to be a bit odd and over the top. That's the whole point! Judd Nelson's acting was A1 as usual. :) I enjoyed the rest of the cast as well. I watched it for the first time a few days ago and have rewatched it many times since! Would recommend for those who are 'non conventional' and enjoy something different. I love it.
