Aayitha Ezhuthu

Brilliant Story and executed in good manner. As usual Mani Proves himself. Surya acting is gone extreme and his manerisms are showed mature. sidarth looks new choclate boy, Atlast maddy has gotten new role in his carrier (arrogant man with only one loving wife). ARR given very good music and BGM . Nice movie (what we want now is started on the screen).

If you have to name one Mani Ratnam's best movies what would it be? There is Mouna Ragam, Geethanjali, Agni Natchathiram, Nayakan, Anjali, Thalapathi, Roja, Bombay, Iruvar, Dil Se, Alai Payuthey, Kannathil Muthamittal, Guru, Raavanan, OK Kanmani, and Chekka Chivantha Vaanam. These are all one of India's best movies.

But what about Ayutha Ezhuthu? Who knew that Mani Ratnam created such a film? It is pretty underrated that not a lot of people talk about this movie nowadays even though this was a blockbuster hit at its time of release. This is something different and something new. Yes, this is inspired partly from Amores Perros but it is not a remake. The narrative style is something that made this film quite unique especially showing how the lives of three people would be connected following an incident. Suriya showed his best performance in this movie. This will be one of his best performances till date. I really liked the way how his character Michael is inspired by a prominent youth named George Reddy. Madhavan did a great job portraying a thug who worked for a politician. Siddharth of course gave his youthful presence as a careless high school teen. Meera Jasmine did a good job in portraying Inbasker's estrangled wife. I never knew Esha Deol is in this movie and her Tamil is pretty good. Trisha Krishnan of course is really gorgeous and would be one of the best actresses of India. And of course, P. Bharathiraja just gave an memorable presence as a politician the main antagonist in this movie.

A.R. Rahman and Mani Ratnam just show that they are one of the best teams in the world. A.R. Rahman gives different genres of music of this new millennial and an awesome BGM that suits well to this movie. He just really masters EDM and you would really love the acoustics. This is going to be one of his best works of all time.

Ayutha Ezhuthu would be counted as Mani Ratnam's best movies. This just something different from the masala blockbusters and what you call a true action movie. This is definitely a modern cult classic that will be remembered for many generations. This is a must watch for anyone interested in Indian movies and action fans. Definitely going to watch this a bunch of times.

The movie is based on a premise - what would happen if an accident brings together 3 completely different personalities. At the very beginning, Inbasekar (Madhavan), a hit-man for a state politician, tries to kill Michael Vasanth (Surya), a student who advocates common people to take part in political system. Arjun (Siddharth), a student with US immigration dreams, is caught up in it as a bystander.

The story of each of the protagonist unfolds from this point. The story of both Inba and Michael moves pretty fast with incidents in Inba's life crisscrossing with that of Michael's. The script has been carefully planned and hence we are never confused. Arjun's background moves a little slowly though.

Madhavan has brought the dilemma of Inba very well - enforcing his power on the streets as a by force as well as being a ill-tempered but devoted husband. We feel sad that he gives up all chances of redemption in the end. Meera Jasmine, as his wife Sasi, has portrayed her suffering, in such a way that we empathize with her.

Surya has given a brilliant performance. Be it rallying the villagers to contest in local election or taking on the state minister with sarcastic comments, he maintains good poise and communicates his views sharply. Isha Deol as his girlfriend Gitanjali is good although her dialogue delivery is terrible.

Siddharth, as Arjun is good too - particularly, the scene where he instinctively jumps into the river to save Michael, although being dead scared. This scene forms a figurative basis for bringing out the inherent quality of compassion in him. He later lends support to Michael's path the same way - instinctively, although he does not understand the full meaning of doing it. His frivolous lifestyle before the accident is quite convincing too, although it may offend some conservative folks.

The script has one glitch though. It is not clear what motivates Michael to take a path which 99 % of the educated youngsters do not take i.e. involve actively in country's politics. He makes general statements as to the duty of good person to jump into political system and cleanse it. Although idealistic, this is not the real world situation. There is also a conversation with his mother where we learn that his father was some kind of activist, which could have been the genesis for such goals. However, as a viewer we do not feel for his cause as there is no specific incident or a goal portrayed clearly. Although unfair to the director, one way I can substantiate this statement, is by comparing it with another movie - 'Mudhalvan' where the protagonist is directly dragged into politics by a challenge posted by the Chief Minister or 'Lagaan' where the challenge posted by the British captain makes the villagers take up a strange path to fight him.

There are other characters well defined - the State minister, (Bharathi Raaja) who uses Inba to control his opponents, Arjun's caring but cool father, his younger brother - who helps him in his love life, Michael's friend - who gets beaten up for standing by his cause etc.

The songs of A.R. Rahman are very good as is the background music. They blend very well with the storyline. 'Jana Gana Mana' is the best of them all.

The fight sequences are very well picturised, particularly the final one, on the Napier bridge, amidst heavy traffic.

Overall it is a very good movie by Mani Ratnam.

Just watched this movie for the umpteenth time, since 2003. The catch of this movie would be the non-linearity with which it moves, similar to that 'Alaipayuthey'. This could give you the feeling of watching a Tarantino movie.

Remember watching this movies with my folks and I had to make them digest the way the story moved with the individual perceptions of the main 3 characters.

The title of the movie is a Tamil vowel, which are 3 dots, signifying the 3 of them.

Some may feel parts of the movie as redundant as they are repeated time and again. But they do blend well in the course of time.

Kudos to Maniji for making an actor of each one of them. Even non-performers have done their bit.

Better watch the movie if you still haven't.

High-Light: Of course Madhavan

Aayitha Ezhuthu is yet another class-A movie from Mani Ratnam. And please note that it is not a remake of the Mexican movie 'Amores Perros' as said by another user. If you had seen amores perros and understood the movie, you'd come to know that aayitha ezhuthu is completely different from it. There are many movie with the same theme - an incident making the characters meet, for eg. 21 grams which was released in 2000, long before amores perros concept was even conceived. So shall I call Amores perros a shameless remake of 21 grams - remove the authenticity, good actors, change the theme and voila!!! u get Amores perros???
