I cant understand the negative reviews on this. I absolutely loved every minute and commend the filmmakers for challenging the audiences patience and investment in the story. Movies these days don't take the time and effort to really let the characters live on screen. This film does that well but also uses it to misdirect, deflect and re-allign perceptions of who what and when. Its a beautifully shot and coordinated film and seeing that it was made for such a low budget, I cant praise the visuals enough. Its not for everyone as it is a very long film for its genre, however and if you're looking for a quick fix, I'd say you'd be better satisfied with 3-4 eps of a crime drama on Netflix - which would be the same thing as watching a movie like this from start to finish.
This movie started out really good, and then it went on and on, and I felt like it was never going to end. I didn't realize how long it was. And then it was getting so drawn out that I was starting to lose interest. This was a good half hour longer than it should've been.
Overall good story, film work good acting good the only thing is they could have easily done it in 90min so some scenes are a bit drawn out almost overdoing it.
I'll start by saying that this is a long film. Its a two and a half hour slow burning noir. But I never really felt it drag or the tension become weak throughout. It keeps you you guessing all the way through and makes it impossible to see the ending, which I must applaud both the screenwriter and director for not taking the easy, Hollywood "all is well with the world' approach. Made for $150k,it looks top notch and the production values are up there with the mainstream. There were some parts where the acting was questionable however after looking these actors up online, I can very quickly see that this is their first film so top points for carrying it as well as they did. I was pleasantly surprised at how invested I was throughout the film and its definitely a film for those who are looking for something different and outside the convenient "fast food" viewing. A nod back to the old days of cinema.
Listen to the low reviews on this one, it is nothing more than a drama there is absolutely nothing to recommend this film and it is barely a thriller but more of a psychological examination of the effects of a home invasion/rape which has already been done many times before and better than this.
Lack-lustre acting , dreadful story (quite a seedy experience actually, I actually felt a bit dirty after watching it) that drags on and on with no end in sight and the end; whilst probably true to life, just finishes this paltry effort off with a woeful, pitiful whimper!
