Following her trip to space, Gayle King addressed those who criticized her and others involved in the historic Blue Origin flight.

After weeks of discussions and preparations, Gayle traveled to space briefly on Monday as part of Jeff Bezos’s Blue Origin New Shepard mission.

Leading up to the trip and after, many critics deemed the trip unnecessary due to the current economic landscape and other global issues.

Singer Katy Perry, civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen, aerospace engineer Aisha Bowe, and filmmaker Kerianne Flynn joined Gayle in the all-female crew, as did Bezos’s fiancee and author, Lauren Sanchez.

Upon Gayle’s departure from the space capsule after landing, she kissed the ground and celebrated being back on Earth before more discussion about the trip.

She also reacted to an internet meme of her scared pre-launch expression and fired back at the critics.

Networks are planning special reports Monday for coverage of the total solar eclipse, a celestial phenomenon when the moon passes between the Earth and the sun.

The eclipse will move across Texas to Maine, temporarily shrouding those areas in darkness, while other parts of the country will notice dimming and twilight.

After a week of memorials including lying in state at the nation’s Capitol, congressman and civil rights icon John Lewis will be laid to rest Thursday after a celebration of life at Atlanta’s historic Ebenezer Baptist Church.

The private service begins at 11 a.m. Et/8 a.m Pt, with former U.S. presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton expected to attend, according to reports. All the U.S. broadcast and cable news networks are expected to break in to cover the celebration, which will be followed by a burial at Atlanta’s South-View Cemetery.

CBS News, NBC News and ABC News are preparing to break into regularly scheduled programming a few minutes before 4:30 p.m. eastern Wednesday in a bid to chronicle the launch of a joint mission between Nasa and entrepreneur Elon Musk’s SpaceX that will represent the first time American astronauts will take off from U.S. soil since 2011. Both Fox News Channel and MSNBC are planning to break away from regular programming at that time in order to bring viewers coverage of the spectacle. Fox News will offer Fox Broadcasting affiliates special coverage of the event at 4:25 p.m. with anchor Leland Vittert.
