Netflix produced its first non-documentary feature in 2015. It was called Beasts of No Nation, and it was fine. However, the film did not get nominated for an Academy Award. Lots has changed in the last decade.
Your favorite streamer often gets nominated for major awards each year. 2025 is no different. Emilia Pérez has 13 nominations alone, including one for Best Picture. So far, Netflix has yet to get a win in that category, and Emilia Pérez is not the favorite this year, either.
In fact, Netflix has also almost been entirely shut out of wins in the acting categories. Only Laura Dern won, and that was for Best Supporting Actress in 2020. But the streamer does do well in some other categories. Those might not be part of the Big 6, but when it comes to documentaries, Netflix knows what it is doing. Just see below, and you'll know.

The official trailer for Apple TV+’s psychological thriller Disclaimer ends, fittingly enough, with a disclaimer: “Any resemblance to persons living or dead is not a coincidence.” But before that appears, Cate Blanchett is tormented by the threat that secrets from her past are about to be made public.
Oscar winner Kevin Kline, three-time Oscar nominee Sacha Baron Cohen, and Oscar nominee Kodi Smit-McPhee star, in addition to two-time Oscar winner Cate Blanchett. The cast also includes Oscar nominee Lesley Manville, Louis Partridge, Leila George, Hoyeon, and Indira Varma as the narrator.

“Acclaimed journalist Catherine Ravenscroft (Blanchett) built her reputation revealing the misdeeds and transgressions of others. When she receives a novel from an unknown author, she is horrified to realize she is now the main character in a story that exposes her darkest secrets and threatens to destroy her family,” reads Apple TV+’s synopsis.

The past always finds you.
So says Disclaimer, the forthcoming Apple limited series starring Cate Blanchett, Kevin Kline and Sacha Baron Cohen, and written and directed by Alfonso Cuarón.
Disclaimer is a gripping psychological thriller told in seven chapters and based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Renée Knight.
The gripping trailer introduces journalist Catherine Ravenscroft (Blanchett) as an “inspiration to us all,” but she quickly begins to unravel. Hiding a deep secret from her past that threatens to expose her reputation and identity, the trailer ends with Kline’s character, who is on her case, warning, “The world needs to know who Catherine Ravenscroft really is. The world needs to know the truth.”
The trailer then ends with the following disclaimer: “Any resemblance to persons living or dead is not a coincidence.”
That disclaimer comes from the novel in the series, which is shown in the trailer.

Cate Blanchett is trying to get rid of any literary notes on her past scandals for upcoming Apple TV+ limited series “Disclaimer.”
Alfonso Cuarón writes, directs, and executive produces the buzzy psychological thriller series based on Renée Knight’s bestselling 2015 novel. “Notes on a Scandal” and “TÁR” star — and two-time Academy Award winner — Blanchett plays acclaimed investigative journalist Catherine Ravenscroft (Blanchett), whose reputation is questioned after a mysterious novel seems to parallel one of her darkest secrets.
Sacha Baron Cohen plays Blanchett’s onscreen husband, with “The Power of the Dog” breakout star Kodi Smit-McPhee as their son. Kevin Kline and Lesley Manville play two grieving parents whose own son may have lost his life due to Catherine’s troubled past. Leila George presumably plays a younger version of Blanchett’s character, with Louis Partridge as her love interest in the novel-within-the-novel story. Hoyeon also co-stars.
