When Erin Foster began writing the script for Nobody Wants This, “I really pictured me on the poster,” she says. The creator of the Emmy-nominated Netflix rom-com is only half joking, as the story of Joanne (Kristen Bell) — an agnostic 30-something sex podcaster who falls for Noah (Adam Brody), a rabbi — is loosely based on Foster and her husband’s real-life love story. And though the series originally was written for Foster to star in, when it came to remaining behind the scenes, she says, “I was very happy to hand the reins over to Kristen.
“Netflix wanted Kristen in the role because they’d worked with her a handful of times and they knew the power of Kristen,” Foster says of Bell, who earned her first Emmy nom for her portrayal in the series. “We didn’t look at anybody else, really.”
How did you know Adam was your Noah?...

Leighton Meester is set to guest on “Nobody Wants This” Season 2 — a fun bit of meta casting for the series, which stars Meester’s husband, Adam Brody, whose character is romancing Kristen Bell’s. In previewing the real-world convergence, Brody called working with his wife “delightful.”
“I was mostly a passenger in my scenes with her — a lucky bystander,” Brody told Deadline. “And it’s always a thrill and a joy to watch her work… When family visits set in general, it’s nice… your two worlds merge and you know all these people from your work life and people’s kids visit and spouses. And it’s nice even without acting, but then to act with all these people that she’s gotten to know very well — some before, but certainly throughout the last couple years making this show, she’s really gotten to know everyone. So, it was a very warm environment.

Watching the final show, I was blown away by everybody; the standards across the board are so extraordinary. That’s because of the writing ability and how it lifts everyone up and encourages them to go bigger and more truthful.

With 94 submissions, this year's Best Comedy Writing category at the Emmys will have six finalists when the nominations are announced July 15.
As expected, there are many single submissions from many of these front-runners, with no series entering more than two installments. But what may come as a surprise is the number of writers credited for scripting each episode — The Studio, for instance, has five writers for its entry. This, of course, does not matter in terms of voting, as writers are not listed on the ballot, but it’s an interesting side note to see how many scribes it takes to make people laugh.
This is a category that often defies conventional wisdom. Voters often gravitate towards shows that are less represented, such as last year when the branch nominated two canceled programs over others that were nominated for Best Comedy Series.

For industry couples, the opportunity to work alongside your partner is one that pops up once in a blue moon. In Adam Brody’s case, the chance came for him to share the set with his wife, Leighton Meester, in the upcoming second season of Netflix’s breakaway hit series, Nobody Wants This. While discussing the course that the sophomore installment will take when it debuts on screens this October, series creator, Erin Foster, explained to Deadline how Meester’s guest role came to fruition. What may surprise followers to know is that the part wasn’t specifically written for the Gossip Girl alum, as Foster revealed, “The story came first, and then we were thinking of who to cast in that role.”
Having recently had a run-in with Meester at the People’s Choice Awards, Foster said,

Erin Foster’s runaway hit comedy series Nobody Wants This had Netflix viewers falling head over heels in love with the Irl meet-cute romance between agnostic podcaster Joanne (Kristen Bell) and Rabbi Noah Roklov (Adam Brody). For Foster, who loosely based the show on the story of meeting her own husband, heading into Season 2 meant continuing to weave in true-life experiences that resonate with audiences, in collaboration with new showrunners Jenni Konner and Bruce Eric Kaplan of Girls fame. The cast also has some new additions, including Brody’s wife Leighton Meester (The Buccaneers), Girls alum Alex Karpovsky, Miles Fowler (A Man on the Inside) and Adrian Moayed (Succession). Here, Foster talks about what we can expect from the next installment set for release October 23, where the action will pick back up and what we’ll see of Meester and Brody on screen together.

Welcome to It’s a Hit! In this series, IndieWire speaks to creators and showrunners behind a few of our favorite television programs about the moment they realized their show was breaking big.
Erin Foster is pretty organized. She’d have to be, thanks to a packed schedule that includes many personal obligations alongside a stuffed professional calendar.
So when we got on Zoom a few weeks ago to talk about the smash first season of “Nobody Wants This” in the context of the current Emmy season, Foster was thrilled to hear that there was an agenda in place, mostly hinging on chatting through a favorite IndieWire question: “When did you know this show was a hit?” Still, all that organization and planning soon went out the window, because in addition to being organized and busy, Foster is — much like her alter-ego on the show, Kristen Bell’s Joanne — disarmingly honest.

As Morgan in Netflix smash hit comedy series Nobody Wants This, Justine Lupe is the sister, best friend and podcast co-host to Kristen Bell’s Joanne. Loosely based on creator Erin Foster’s own experience of meeting her husband and converting to Judaism, with Bell and Adam Brody playing out a version of that romantic narrative, Lupe also sees Nobody Wants This as a kind of “love story” between Morgan and Joanne. As sisters and best friends who co-host a podcast, the characters again echo reality in that Foster and her sister Sara share a podcast and business ventures together. Lupe—who became widely known for her Succession role as Willa Ferreyra—says she drew less on the real-life of Foster and her sister, and more from her own memories of feeling the pinch when close friends fall in love and the single-girl sisterly bond is altered forever. With Season...

Adam Brody has returned to The O.C. — or at least, to the O.C.!
The beloved actor, who first made his name as teen Seth Cohen on the hit Fox series of that name, which ran from 2003-07, returned to the titular region of California on Friday to accept the inaugural Newport Beach TV Fest’s Performer of the Year Award (Actor) for his portrayal of a rabbi on the Netflix rom-com Nobody Wants This, his biggest hit since The O.C. went off the air. First, though, he recorded an episode of THR‘s Awards Chatter podcast in front of an audience of adoring fans — including his wife, Gossip Girl actress Leighton Meester — which you can hear below.
Brody, who was born in San Diego, moved to Los Angeles, more or less spontaneously, around his 19th birthday, stepping away from a job at Blockbuster and dreams of a career as a pro surfer.

For “Nobody Wants This” creator/executive producer Erin Foster, when it came time to figure out where to shoot her Netflix comedy “Nobody Wants This,” she had some leverage in her back pocket: Star Kristen Bell.
“Shooting in L.A. is hard and really expensive,” Foster told the audience on Thursday at Variety’s A Night in the Writers Room event. “We were only able to shoot in L.A. because Kristen Bell has kids here that are in school here. And she’s like, ‘I won’t shoot anywhere else.’”
Foster said Netflix and 20th TV, which is behind “Nobody Wants This,” quickly agreed. “They’re like, ‘well, then we’re shooting where you want to shoot,’” she told the A Night in the Writers’ Room audience. “We got very lucky that she wants to be home with her kids. She wants to come to work, she wants to live in LA.

For any good rom-com, chemistry is key, as Netflix's smash hit series Nobody Wants This so delightfully demonstrates. But it isn’t just the romantic relationship between leading love interests Joanne (Kristin Bell) and Noah (Adam Brody) that gives the show its spark: The crackling repartee between sisters and podcasting partners Joanne and Morgan (Justine Lupe) — calling each other out with affection, mostly — proved just as crucial to the show's appeal, and that special alchemy was almost instantaneous.
"I've got to be honest: I feel like it happened pretty quickly!" After its debut last September, Netflix’s Nobody Wants This quickly turned into one of the year’s buzziest and most beloved new series. The woman behind the show, Erin Foster, says when creating the series that stars Kristen Bell and Adam Brody, she set aside any expectations and simply followed her heart.
“I didn’t write this pilot for anybody else,” she tells Gold Derby. “I didn’t write it for someone else’s taste. I wasn’t listening to criticism or chasing a trend. I just wrote the story that I wanted to tell in my style of writing.”
That authenticity is precisely what’s resonated with audiences — and with critics. Nobody Wants This recently picked up multiple nominations across key awards, including a Critics’ Choice win for Brody, and is in strong contention to land Emmy nominations.

After months of speculation, the Season 2 premiere date of Netflix's hit romantic comedy, Nobody Wants This, has been revealed. And it's exactly when we thought it might be — the streamer just waited for the Kristen Bell and Adam Brody-starring show to have its For Your Consideration moment in order to announce it officially. The show's executive producers and cast made the premiere date known on Sunday on stage at Netflix's Fysee Emmy event celebrating Season 1 in Los Angeles.
In news that was also revealed via press release (but we first saw in The Hollywood Reporter), Nobody Wants This will see its Season 2 premiere on October 23, 2025. It's an exciting development for fans of the series, which hit the streaming service in late 2024 but became an instant success thanks to its likable cast and fantastic writing. In a world that tends to under-serve and under-appreciate romantic comedies, Nobody Wants This is a gift.

Joanne (Kristen Bell) and Noah’s (Adam Brody) budding romance continues in Season 2 of “Nobody Wants This,” which is set to premiere globally Oct. 23 on Netflix. The release date was announced by the cast and crew at an Emmys FYC event for the show’s first season.
Loosely inspired by the real-life story of creator Erin Foster, the first season followed the unlikely pairing between an agnostic outspoken podcaster and an unconventional rabbi after meeting at a dinner party. After 10 episodes of exploring the couple’s on-and-off again romance, the Season 1 finale concluded with an uncertain future between the duo after Joanne revealed she wasn’t ready to convert to Judaism.
The original Season 1 cast will return alongside a few new additions. Leighton Meester will guest star as Abby, an Instagram mommy influencer and Joanne’s childhood nemesis. Miles Fowler, Alex Karpovsky and Arian Moayed will also appear in the upcoming season.

Netflix know that a lot of somebodies want this. The second season of “Nobody Wants This” will premiere October 23. The show first dropped on the streamer last September to sparkling reviews, with IndieWire’s Proma Khosla praising the chemistry between leads Kristen Bell and Adam Brody.
The show, created by Erin Foster, finds Joanne and Noah (Brody) in a would-be conventional love story complicated by Noah’s position as a rabbi. Popular podcaster Joanne isn’t just not Jewish, she’s also unreligious generally — as is her entire non-traditional family. As Noah and Joanne attempt to acclimate to each other’s worlds, and Joanne explores converting, things get complicated — to put it lightly.

It’s safe to assume Leighton Meester doesn’t look at her relationship with Adam Brody through such an iconic lens as maybe everyone else does.
On the outside, fans see the stars of two of the biggest shows from the early aughts — Gossip Girl and The O.C. — ended up together in real life, but to them, their relationship is actually much more low-key. It’s one of the reasons why Meester said they opted for a smaller wedding.
“On sets and in life, I’ve been able to wear a fancy dress and hit a mark and say lines, and I didn’t want it to feel like that,” she recently told Bustle. “I wanted it to feel intimate and private.”
Meester and Brody — who share a daughter and son together — tied the knot in a private wedding in 2014, and have continued to keep much of their personal life out of the spotlight.

There will be more to love when Netflix’s smash-hit rom-com, Nobody Wants This, returns for Season 2. Creator Erin Foster spoke to IndieWire about what fans can expect when unconventional lovers Noah (Adam Brody) and Joanne (Kristen Bell) make it back to the small screen. Foster based the show on her own relationship with her husband, as the show follows a Rabbi who falls in love with a podcaster with no religious affiliation. Nobody Wants This was a match made in early aughts nostalgia heaven with the casting of Brody and Bell, and viewers can expect more of the same when the show returns, as Foster shared with the outlet.
“It’s gonna be romantic and funny. I’m not in the business of depriving people of what they want on a show like this, and making some like, artistic choice to rob you of what you want to see.

Season 2 of Netflix’s Nobody Wants This has wrapped filming, and the confirmation came alongside exciting behind-the-scenes photos. Heartthrob actors Kristen Bell and Adrian Brody made a comeback last year with the release of Nobody Wants This, a great Netflix romantic comedy about a Rabbi named Noah and an atheist sex podcaster named Joanne falling in love. The show quickly became a fan favorite, and Netflix, unsurprisingly, picked up Nobody Wants This season 2.
News has slowly trickled out about the second season, and luckily it seems that audiences won’t have to wait too much longer. Jackie Tohn, who plays Esther in the cast of Nobody Wants This, confirmed on May 13, 2025, that filming had wrapped for season 2.

Series creator Erin Foster has just wrapped the second season of her Netflix smash hit, “Nobody Wants This.” No, really, just: the team behind the Adam Brody- and Kristen Bell-starring romantic comedy, based on Foster’s own life and marriage, called cut Monday night at midnight, LA time. Eleven hours later, Foster was on Zoom with IndieWire to talk about the success of the first season of the show and to tease as much as humanly possible about what’s going to unspool in the upcoming, and much-anticipated sophomore season.
Right away, Foster has a promise and a vow: it’s going to be more of what people love. And why shouldn’t it be? The show, which hit the streamer last fall, was an instant hit (hitting the number one slot on Netflix’s own lists within its first full week in release and earning glowing critical...

The company, via its Everybody’s Live with John Mulaney host John Mulaney, announced that during the two weeks between Saturday, May 17, and Monday, June 2, it will host Fysee LA, a festival for which it will take over theaters and iconic locations throughout the city of Los Angeles in order to bring together TV Academy members and Netflix’s Emmy-contending talent.
The fest’s events — taking place everywhere from Santa Monica, Hollywood and Pasadena to Eagle Rock, The Valley and South Central — will support local businesses impacted by the recent wildfires.
Among those set to make appearances: Mulaney, Kristen Bell (Nobody Wants This), Simone Biles (Simone Biles Rising), Adam Brody (Nobody Wants This), Ted Danson (A Man on the Inside...

Kristen Bell remembers the moment she had an inkling that Nobody Wants This might hit different. Screeners of the Netflix rom-com series had been sent out to press over the summer prior to its Sept. 26 launch.
"I started getting calls like, 'We've never seen a response this rabid from critics before,'" Bell tells Gold Derby. "So that immediately changed what our press tour looked like. They were like, 'Well, you're gonna do quite a bit more press than you thought you were going to do. So please block off the entire month of August and the entire month of September to get out in front of the show because we think it could be a real hit.'"
And it was. The series became an immediate sensation its first weekend and was quickly renewed for a second season. For Bell, a veteran of beloved but little-watched shows like Veronica Mars and The Good Place,...

The past few years have seen an explosion of celebrity brands, producing everything from tequila to lipstick to luggage. But few of the top celeb-fronted companies are earning high scores for sustainability, if a review of the eco-ratings platform Good on You is to be believed.
Founded in Australia in 2015, Good on You judges fashion and beauty companies across the globe according to three main criteria: people (labor practices), planet (environmental initiatives) and animals (welfare). Performance in each of these areas contributes to an overall rating, ranging from “Great” (a 5/5 rating) to “We avoid” (1/5). More than 6,000 brands have been rated so far, with staffers generally endeavoring to update scores every 12 to 18 months to judge progress (or backsliding, as the case may be).
At a moment when the famous are increasingly shilling their own consumer goods, The Hollywood Reporter scoured the platform for dozens of well-known celebrity brand names. Only 14 had...

We already know Netflix’s hit comedy Nobody Wants This is coming back for a second season, but it seems the show’s creator is already looking ahead to season 3!
Speaking with People at the 2025 Fashion Scholarship Fund Gala in New York City on April 7, Nobody Wants This creator Erin Foster seemed to hint that a third season is already in the works when discussing a possible cameo on the show.
"I always thought that it'd be fun to do that, but I never created a character that I thought was the perfect character,” Foster told People when asked about making a cameo in the hit Netflix series. “Maybe season 3, Morgan [Justine Lupe] and Joanne [Kristen Bell] go on sabbatical and then it's us," she added, referring to her sister, Sara Foster, who serves as an executive producer on the show.
While we love the cameo idea, what stands out...

“Maybe season 3, Morgan and Joanne go on sabbatical and then it’s us. We replace them,” she said, referring to lead characters played by Kristen Bell and Justine Lupe.
“I’m always ready [for a cameo], but no one seems to be,” Erin joked.
If you didn’t know, Nobody Wants This is based on the real-life love story between Erin and her husband Simon Tikhman.
