Maggie Thrett Dies: Actress And Singer Most Famous For “Mudd’s Women” Episode Of ‘Star Trek’ Was 76
Image
Maggie Thrett, the actress and singer who most memorably played Ruth in the “Mudd’s Women” episode of the original Star Trek, has died her family announced. She was 76.

“Mudd’s Women” is one of the most memorable episodes of the 1960s Star Trek, in no small part because it featured three stunningly beautiful women who seem to have strange powers over the male members of the Enterprise crew — except Spock, of course.

Hollywood & Media Deaths In 2022 Photo Gallery

The women are en route to a mining colony where they are to become wives for the wealthy but lonely men who mine precious dilithium crystals. Their secret is that they are made both beautiful and irresistible by taking a so-called “Venus” drug given to them by one of the series’ most memorable rascals, Harry Mudd (Roger Carmel).

Ironically, though Carmel was her neighbor, Thrett...

Maggie Thrett, the actress and singer who portrayed one of the three glamorous humanoids who require pills to keep them from aging on the early Star Trek episode “Mudd’s Women,” has died. She was 76.

Thrett died Sunday of complications from an infection at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park, New York, family members told The Hollywood Reporter.

Thrett also starred as a flower child alongside Yvette Mimieux, Christopher Jones and Judy Pace in the sex revenge romp Three in the Attic (1968), a box office hit for indie distributor Aip. She and the film received a mention on a TV spot that played in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019).

On “Mudd’s Women,” which premiered on Oct. 13, 1966, as the sixth episode of NBC’s Star Trek — it was shot as the series’ second installment — Thrett, with her long brown hair,...

Scream Factory Blu-ray Reviews: Night Of The Creeps Collector’s Edition, Frankenstein Created Woman Collector’s Edition, Monster On The Campus
More classics and cult favorites from the good people at Scream Factory!

Where do I even begin talking about my love for Night of the Creeps? Writer/director Fred Dekker, a monster kid from way back, was a successful screenwriter when he got to finally direct a movie. He was only about 26 at the time, but the movie plays like the work of a guy who has waited his entire life to make a movie. He packs it top to bottom with all the things he loves and includes every shot he's dreamed of composing, from the Jaws zoom in/dolly out to the first appearance of hard-boiled Tom Atkins, shot from a high angle looking down through a ceiling fan. He doesn't direct Night of the Creeps like he's trying to prove something; he directs it like he's only going to get one chance to make a movie and...

Drive-In Dust Offs: Frankenstein Created Woman (1967)
…And not all Frankensteins were created equal. Case in point: Frankenstein Created Woman (1967), the fourth film in the series from Hammer and one that’s decidedly different and sufficiently weird enough to set itself apart from the pack. This isn’t your granddad’s Frankenstein.

Now, I’m still playing catch up with Hammer, especially the Frankenstein series; but the biggest recurring theme seems to be the Baron (once again assayed by Peter Cushing)’s assholery, and his utter disregard for existing human life while chasing his re-animating dream. Fear not; Created Woman does not disappoint on this front, in fact it introduces new colors into the Hammer lexicon that prevents it from being a musty retread.

Released Stateside in March with a U.K. rollout in June, Created Woman was not a hit with critics or filmgoers, although Martin Scorcese is a big fan, so it’s got that...

Blu-ray Review: Frankenstein Created Woman
Fresh out from Scream Factory today in North America, is the collector's edition Blu-ray release of the 1967 film Frankenstein Created Woman. Helmed by Hammer Films' most well-known director, Terence Fisher, the story goes as thus: Baron Frankenstein is unfrozen (and amazingly re-animated) by his buddy Dr. Hertz for more beyond-the-grave shenanagins. Played by the always amazing Peter Cushing, Baron Frankenstein and Dr. Hertz proceed to experiment with life after death, and in this case, transferring the soul and personality of one person to another. They get their chance to do this when a group of dandy thugs set up the doctors' assistant Hans for murder. He's executed and his deformed girlfriend Christina (Susan Denberg)...

Titan Books has published Marcus Hearn’s third impressive hardback coffee table book on Hammer Horror and it’s a real dream not just for fans of the great British studio but for connoisseurs of the art of the movie poster. The team which produced “The Hammer Story” and “Hammer Glamor” has now come out with “The Art of Hammer“, a fantastic illustrated collection and history of Hammer film posters. Raquel Welch in her fur bikini against a backdrop of dinosaurs may be the most famous Hammer film poster (at least in the U.S.) but this book showcases over 300 posters from all over the world, all in color, pulled from private collections and the studio’s archives. Hearn has done a fantastic job assembling these sumptuous images.
