Jeffrey Wright is reflecting on the backlash over his casting in The Batman as Jim Gordon.

In a recent interview, Wright shared his thoughts on the controversy generated by comic book purists who were critical of his casting for a role that had been played by white men previously.

Wright was the first Black actor to play the Gotham City police commissioner, following in J.K. Simmons in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, Gary Oldman in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, Pat Hingle in the Tim Burton and Joel Schumacher films, and Ben McKenzie in the Gotham TV series.

Gary Oldman has spoken often about his love of cinema, and when asked by Rotten Tomatoes to share his five favorite films, he surprised many with one of his picks.

Among classics like Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, and The King of Comedy, he included Ratcatcher, the 1999 debut feature from Scottish director Lynne Ramsay.

Oldman praised the film highly, calling it “a masterful piece of filmmaking.” He explained that while his list could include endless titles from directors like Martin Scorsese and Stanley Kubrick, Ramsay’s debut stood out to him on the same level.

Ray Winstone has called for the UK industry to make more culturally British films, and not lose filmmaking talent to the US.

Speaking in his masterclass session at Sarajevo Film Festival, the UK actor was asked about his four favourite films of all time. He segued into talking about his favourite actors, who include Richard Burton, Bob Hoskins, Peter O’Toole and Michael Caine.
