The Ron Howard astronaut drama Apollo 13 is turning 30 this year, and, to celebrate, Universal & Imagine Entertainment are bringing the award-winning film back to theaters in IMAX format. The film, which stars Tom Hanks, Gary Sinise, Kevin Bacon, Ed Harris and Bill Paxton, was the first live-action film to be digitally remastered using IMAX‘s proprietary Dmr technology. It was, then, re-released in 2002 as Apollo 13: The IMAX Experience. At the time, 13 minutes of the film were cut to accommodate the limitations of the IMAX film platter used in projection. Now, from September 19 to September 25, Apollo 13‘s IMAX remaster will be shown in its full-length theatrical version for the first time ever.

Apollo 13is officially heading back to theaters for its thirtieth anniversary, and fans can see it in IMAX.

Per a Twitter post from Discussing Film, the 1995 docudrama is heading back to theaters in celebration of its thirtieth anniversary. Apollo 13 will be re-released in IMAX on September 19, giving fans the chance to see the beloved modern classic for themselves on some of the biggest theater screens the world has to offer.

It’s been a big year for movie anniversaries, and to celebrate 30 years of one of the best space movies ever made, Universal has announced that Apollo 13, directed by Ron Howard and starring an incredible cast including Tom Hanks, Kevin Bacon, Bill Paxton, Gary Sinise, Ed Harris, and Kathleen Quinlan, will be returning to theaters from September 19th to September 25th — for the first time ever, in IMAX.

While failure is not an option, this fall, you'll have the option of watching Ron Howard's classic space thriller Apollo 13 on an IMAX screen. The 1995 film is coming to the big screen just in time for its 30th anniversary, and for the 55th anniversary of the harrowing space mission that inspired it. Apollo 13 will screen in selected IMAX theaters on September 19.

This is the second time Apollo 13 has come to IMAX theaters. In 2002, it became the first film ever to be remastered with IMAX Dmr technology; previously, most IMAX films had been shot specifically for IMAX projection. However, it had to be recut to play in IMAX theaters; the film, in its normal state, has a running time of 140 minutes, and at the time, IMAX film reels were so physically enormous that no film with a length over two hours could be shown with an IMAX projector.

Doug Liman has been set to direct a feature version of Stephen King’s 1978 post-apocalyptic fantasy novel The Stand for Paramount Pictures.

Liman will produce with Tyler Thompson of Cross Creek Pictures and Paramount is believed to be fast-tracking development.

The epic King novel is about the aftermath of a pandemic of weaponised influenza that causes the surviving humans to divide into good and evil factions.

The novel has been filmed twice before, both times as a TV miniseries. A 1994 version for ABC starred Gary Sinise and Molly Ringwald, and a 2021 version for then streamer CBS All Access featured James Marsden and Odessa Young.

A movie adaptation of Stephen King's The Stand is in the works. Originally published in 1978, the classic Stephen King book follows characters during and after the outbreak of a virus that kills 99.4% of the world's population, and the epic battle of good versus evil that ensues. After reimagining Road House, filmmaker Doug Liman is set to reboot the Stephen King story The Stand. The tale has already spawned two TV series adaptations in the past, but Liman will be making a big change with this version, as it would be a singular feature film.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Liman is attached to direct a feature film adaptation of The Stand for Paramount Pictures. Tyler Hompson of Cross Creek Pictures is also serving as a producer on the project. Filmmaker Doug Liman is attached to direct a feature film of the post-apocalyptic bestseller for Paramount Pictures, with Cross Creek Pictures’ Tyler Thompson on board to produce. The project does not yet have a script, however, so development may take some time as Liman and the studio winnow King’s novel — which runs 1,153 pages in its 1990 unabridged version — into a single movie. The novel, which is considered to be one of Stephen King’s best, deals with a deadly pandemic that kills nearly the entire population. The survivors are drawn to two opposing communities, one led by the kind, prophetic Mother Abagail and the other by the sinister, demonic Randall Flagg. This all leads to a final battle between good and evil. The search is now on for a writer to tackle the project. The annual celebration honors United States veterans, servicemen and women and military families, uniting the country in remembrance and appreciation of those who gave their lives for the nation.

The television event includes musical performances, documentary footage and dramatic readings, as well as celebrities sharing real-life stories spanning the broad history of the nation’s military conflicts, musicians performing songs in tribute to the country’s true heroes and performers from the United States premier military choirs and ensembles.

The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (General Dan Caine) and the Joint Chiefs of Staff also participate in the concert.

Joe Mantegna is no longer hosting the 2025 National Memorial Day Concert on Sunday (May 25).

Two days after the announcement that the Tony-winning actor would be co-hosting with Gary Sinise in Washington D.C. as they’ve done for years, Capital Concerts announced that the 77-year-old Criminal Minds actor would not be hosting this year and that actor Esai Morales would be stepping in instead.

At the time, there was no reasoning given for the replacement, but now we know why.

On paper, the heist movie “Reindeer Games” should have been a slam-dunk. It had action master John Frankenheimer at the helm, a buzzy cast of rising stars and reliable character actors chewing the scenery, and a clever premise in which a crew dressed as Santa Clauses robs a casino at Christmastime.

Two and a half decades later, filmmaker Ron Howard accurately reenacted the harrowing NASA mission in his 1995 film Apollo 13, starring Tom Hanks as Lovell, which was nominated for nine Academy Awards, including Best Picture.

Two years later, another embarrassing failure involving Apollo 13 (the film) would lead to an incredible success, when Reed Hastings found a VHS copy of Apollo 13 that he had borrowed from his local Blockbuster long ago and forgotten to return.

Pacific Palisades residents Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson have pledged to help their neighbors who were impacted by the January 2025 Los Angeles wildfires. Per The Hollywood Reporter, Hanks and Wilson, who have been married since 1988, are donating $1 million toward LA fire relief across several aid organizations.

The couple collaborated on an Instagram post on Feb. 21 to share the news of their donation. The post read: “Hey friends, Like so many of us, we see the loss and devastation wrought by the Altadena and Palisades fires. The challenges to the future of these communities is immense. We are so very grateful for the First Responders and Firefighters, from all over, who fought with all they had in order to save homes and people.”

In a new appearance on The Kingcast, Wan revealed that the "only" novel for him to adapt is one of King's most ambitious works: The Stand.

The Green Mile, a supernatural prison drama from 1999, is finding new life on the free streaming service Tubi. The Stephen King adaptation stars Tom Hanks in one of his genuinely underrated performances. The film currently sits at the third spot on Tubi's Top 10 list of the service's most-watched films.

Written and directed by Frank Darabont, The Green Mile follows a group of prison guards working at the Cold Mountain Penitentiary death row, or as everyone calls it, "The Green Mile." Led by Officer Paul Edgecomb (Hanks), the group receives John Coffey (Michael Clarke Duncan), a new inmate who has been sentenced to death for a horrible crime. Coffey doesn't behave like a murderer and claims that he's innocent. Edgecomb eventually realizes that the convict even possesses an extraordinary power to heal people. But we'll leave it at that for those who still haven't seen this classic, as we'd rather not spoil it for you.

The NCIS cast adds a new face during a new episode for Season 22.
