"Gentlemen, let's go home..." Universal has unveiled a brand new official trailer for the re-release of Apollo 13, celebrating its 30th Anniversary this year. Directed by Ron Howard, this masterpiece space docu-drama tells the entirely true story of NASA's Apollo 13 Moon mission which went wrong & experienced a problem. The 3 astronauts on board and everyone down on Earth had to figure out a way to get them back safely and hope they could pull it off. And boy oh boy, did they. One of my all-time favorite space movies, featuring an all-time unforgettable score by James Horner (Rip) along with one of Tom Hanks greatest performances. I went to see it many times back in 1995. On September 19th, the film returns to theaters, presented exclusively in IMAX from September 19-25 in its full-length theatrical version for the first time ever. The Ron Howard astronaut drama Apollo 13 is turning 30 this year, and, to celebrate, Universal & Imagine Entertainment are bringing the award-winning film back to theaters in IMAX format. The film, which stars Tom Hanks, Gary Sinise, Kevin Bacon, Ed Harris and Bill Paxton, was the first live-action film to be digitally remastered using IMAX‘s proprietary Dmr technology. It was, then, re-released in 2002 as Apollo 13: The IMAX Experience. At the time, 13 minutes of the film were cut to accommodate the limitations of the IMAX film platter used in projection. Now, from September 19 to September 25, Apollo 13‘s IMAX remaster will be shown in its full-length theatrical version for the first time ever.

It’s been a big year for movie anniversaries, and to celebrate 30 years of one of the best space movies ever made, Universal has announced that Apollo 13, directed by Ron Howard and starring an incredible cast including Tom Hanks, Kevin Bacon, Bill Paxton, Gary Sinise, Ed Harris, and Kathleen Quinlan, will be returning to theaters from September 19th to September 25th — for the first time ever, in IMAX.

While failure is not an option, this fall, you'll have the option of watching Ron Howard's classic space thriller Apollo 13 on an IMAX screen. The 1995 film is coming to the big screen just in time for its 30th anniversary, and for the 55th anniversary of the harrowing space mission that inspired it. Apollo 13 will screen in selected IMAX theaters on September 19.
This is the second time Apollo 13 has come to IMAX theaters. In 2002, it became the first film ever to be remastered with IMAX Dmr technology; previously, most IMAX films had been shot specifically for IMAX projection. However, it had to be recut to play in IMAX theaters; the film, in its normal state, has a running time of 140 minutes, and at the time, IMAX film reels were so physically enormous that no film with a length over two hours could be shown with an IMAX projector.

When you think of Sam Raimi, it's common for one of two things to pop up in your head: the Spider-Man franchise starring Tobey Maguire (Babylon) and Kirsten Dunst (Civil War) or the Evil Dead horror movies led by Bruce Campbell(Hysteria!). You hardly think about Raimi when listing Westerns, but the filmmaker took on the challenge of stepping out of his comfort zone back in the mid-'90s in order to film The Quick and the Dead. As the movie celebrates its 30th anniversary, it has suddenly climbed the Netflix global charts to become one of the top 10 most-watched movies of the week on the platform.
It's not difficult to see what attracted Raimi to this particular Western. Since Westerns were traditionally led by macho figures like John Wayne (True Grit) and Clint Eastwood, The Quick and the Deadsubverted the genre by centering around a woman gunslinger played by...

Director Sam Raimi may be known for movies like Army of Darkness and the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man movies, andDoctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but in 1995, he directed a revenge western that, while it was a box office flop, is now making its way up the global streaming charts. The 1995 classic Apollo 13, starring Tom Hanks, Kevin Bacon, Bill Paxton, and Gary Sinise, turns 30 this year, and despite its minor scientific missteps, we still believe it’s one of the best space movies ever made! The Ron Howard directorial is based on the real-life aborted lunar mission of 1970.
And we follow Jim Lovell, Jack Swigert, and Fred Haise as they fight for survival after an onboard explosion makes their chances of returning to Earth slim to none. The space drama is adapted from Lovell and Jeffrey Kluger’s book titled Lost Moon, and while it may not score a perfect 10 in terms of scientific accuracy, the movie compensates for it in more than one way!

What does it mean to be the President of the United States? Are you the leader of the free world, the responsible holder of the highest status in the land, a role model to one and all? Or are you a power-hungry despot, a selfish apex of broken ideals of exceptionalism and imperialism? Or is it somewhere in between? Or does it change from person to person?
These are big questions for a big office, questions that have been explored in various movies throughout the years. While there are a litany of interesting movie presidents in bangers like "Dave," "Idiocracy," and "Fail Safe," some of our most direct interrogations have come when filmmakers and performers set their sights on the real-life rulers, donning prosthetics and turning history into drama.

It may have become the source of some backlash in recent years, but the Tom Hanks-led Forrest Gump, the 1994 period drama also starring Gary Sinise, Sally Field, Robin Wright, Rebecca Williams, and Sam Anderson, is sure to always prove popular. Written by Eric Roth and based on the novel by Winston Groom,Forrest Gump was an enormous success when it first debuted more than 30 years ago.
Directed by Robert Zemeckis, the film earned eye-watering critical acclaim and swept up in the 1995 awards season, earning six Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Editing, Best Visual Effects, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Hanks' win for Best Lead Actor. In 2025, the film's success has been retroactively disapproved of by some, citing the snub of Quentin Tarantino's breakthrough crime drama Pulp Fiction as a huge misstep from the Academy, although the brilliant Amy Adams still includes it in her Letterboxd top 4. Stephen King published The Stand in 1978; he's said it was his attempt to create an epic in the style of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings, but this is Stephen King we're talking about, so things get twisted. It's about a deadly disease that wipes out the great majority of the human population, leaving the remaining few to divide themselves into good and evil camps. There's a malevolent, otherworldly villain named Randall Flagg who I suppose is our Sauron, except he wears a lot more denim.
Anyway, The Stand has remain consistently popular for decades and has spawned two TV adaptations: one in the '90s and another in 2020. Neither version was a smash hit, but the '90s one has a cheesy charm to it; it stars folk like Gary Sinise, Molly Ringwald and Rob Lowe. The 2020 version is more of a prestige effort but ended up being less memorable,...

A movie adaptation of Stephen King's The Stand is in the works. Originally published in 1978, the classic Stephen King book follows characters during and after the outbreak of a virus that kills 99.4% of the world's population, and the epic battle of good versus evil that ensues. After reimagining Road House, filmmaker Doug Liman is set to reboot the Stephen King story The Stand. The tale has already spawned two TV series adaptations in the past, but Liman will be making a big change with this version, as it would be a singular feature film.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, Liman is attached to direct a feature film adaptation of The Stand for Paramount Pictures. Tyler Hompson of Cross Creek Pictures is also serving as a producer on the project. Currently, a screenwriter hasn't been named, but with the change in format, they may have their work cut out for them with this adaptation.
The lengthy novel has provided plenty of source material for its TV series adaptations, and it may be a challenge to effectively tell the story with the same impact condensed into one movie. According to the report, Liman's vision is for a one-off story,...

Stephen King’s “The Stand” is getting a new adaptation, with Paramount securing Doug Liman to direct the new adaptation of the author’s apocalyptic 1978 tome.
Liman will also produce along with Tyler Thompson of Cross Creek Pictures, with the two previously collaborating on “American Made,” the based-on-a-true-story drama starring Tom Cruise.
Largely thought to be one of King’s greatest accomplishments, “The Stand” takes place in the aftermath of a pandemic caused by a weaponized virus (dubbed Captain Trips), where the survivors are either swayed by the forces of good or those of evil, personified by Randall Flagg, who would go on to become a recurring figure in some of King’s other work, most notably the “Dark Tower” series of novels.
In 1990 King updated and expanded the novel, moving the events from 1980 to 1990 and including more than 400 pages that were cut from the initial printing. The resulting book,...

Stephen King’s “The Stand” may finally be heading to the big screen.
Filmmaker Doug Liman is attached to direct a feature film of the post-apocalyptic bestseller for Paramount Pictures, with Cross Creek Pictures’ Tyler Thompson on board to produce. THR reports that Doug Liman is set to direct The Stand for Paramount Pictures. The novel, which is considered to be one of Stephen King’s best, deals with a deadly pandemic that kills nearly the entire population. The survivors are drawn to two opposing communities, one led by the kind, prophetic Mother Abagail and the other by the sinister, demonic Randall Flagg. This all leads to a final battle between good and evil. The search is now on for a writer to tackle the project. In addition to directing, Liman will also produce alongside Tyler Thompson of Cross Creek Pictures.
At 1,152 pages, The Stand is King’s longest book. While you might think that Paramount will be viewing this as something that will span multiple films, sources tell THR that “Liman and the studio have a particular take and that the feature would be a one-off, not a multi-movie endeavor.

While Tbbt fans might be aware of Laurie Metcalf as Sheldon Cooper’s religious and stern mother, the actress has many more mom roles in her resume than one might realise, including that of Andy’s mom, Mrs. Davis, in Pixar’s Toy Story franchise.
Throughout her decades-long career, she has delivered several portrayals of tough yet loving mothers in shows and movies such as The Big Bang Theory and Lady Bird, with the latter even earning her an Oscar nomination. However, tucked away in her impressive resume is her role as Mrs. Davis, Andy’s mom in the Toy Story franchise, a subtle and often overlooked performance.

Gary Sinise stepped back from on-screen work in 2020 when his son Mac received a chordoma diagnosis, a rare bone cancer affecting about 300 people in the U.S. each year. Best known for playing Lieutenant Dan in Forrest Gump and leading CSI: NY across nine seasons, Sinise left projects including Joe Bell, I Still Believe and Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why Season 4 to care for his family.
Mac began treatment in 2018, and Sinise took charge of logistics and emotional support, describing himself as his son’s “air traffic controller.” He shielded Mac from the stress of appointments and pursued any possible breakthrough. “You’re trying to take the pain away,” he told People magazine. After Mac’s death last year at 33, Sinise said he holds his daughters “a lot tighter,” reflecting a shift in priorities that makes time away from home more difficult.

Gary Sinise recently opened up to People magazine about his decision to leave Hollywood behind five years ago amid his son’s battle with a rare bone cancer. Sinise, well known for his Oscar-nominated role as Lieutenant Dan in “Forrest Gump” and for headlining all nine seasons of “CSI: NY,” hasn’t acted since a trio of 2020 releases: The films “Joe Bell” and “I Still Believe” and his supporting turn on Netflix’s “13 Reasons Why” Season 4.
Sinise’s son, Mac, was diagnosed with chordoma in 2018. The rare form of bone cancer only affects 300 people in the U.S. each year. The actor said he “stopped acting” in 2020 and “started putting everything I had into trying to find a miracle for Mac.” Sinise lost Mac last year at 33 years old.

Legend has unveiled its packed May 2025 premiere schedule, delivering an ambitious run of science fiction, fantasy, and action classics that stretch across time, space, and genres.
At the top of the pile is James Cameron’s rarely broadcast deep-sea thriller The Abyss, which makes a rare UK television appearance on Sunday 25 May at 9pm. This underwater epic about alien intelligence, nuclear paranoia, and human resilience remains one of Cameron’s most visually arresting and emotionally charged films.
But for those who prefer their sci-fi terrain a little more subterranean than subaquatic, Legend has curated a trio of matinee premieres that mine classic adventure with gusto. Kicking off with Journey to the Center of the Earth (1959) on 5 May, followed by Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea (1961) and disaster milestone The Poseidon Adventure (1972), the channel dives deep into cult cinematic archaeology.

On paper, the heist movie “Reindeer Games” should have been a slam-dunk. It had action master John Frankenheimer at the helm, a buzzy cast of rising stars and reliable character actors chewing the scenery, and a clever premise in which a crew dressed as Santa Clauses robs a casino at Christmastime.
Yet “Reindeer Games” landed with a thud 25 years ago — critics mostly hated it, and it flailed at the box office, opening at number three behind the kids’ movie “Snow Day” and the Bruce Willis vehicle “The Whole Nine Yards” before disappearing from theaters entirely just a few weeks later. Was it really that bad, or just a victim of bad timing? And was there a better film to be found in the footage Frankenheimer shot before test screenings led to months of reshoots and editing-room meddling by financiers Harvey and Bob Weinstein?

Apollo 13, NASA's third planned moon landing mission after Apollos 11 and 12, saw an extremely unlucky and nearly fatal problem become a triumphant display of human ingenuity. In April 1970, after suffering a catastrophic mechanical failure that rendered astronauts Jim Lovell, Fred Haise, and Jack Swigert unable to reach the moon, the three men were able to successfully turn around and land their stricken ship safely in the Pacific Ocean, leading NASA to dub the mission "a successful failure." Two and a half decades later, filmmaker Ron Howard accurately reenacted the harrowing NASA mission in his 1995 film Apollo 13, starring Tom Hanks as Lovell, which was nominated for nine Academy Awards, including Best Picture.
Two years later, another embarrassing failure involving Apollo 13 (the film) would lead to an incredible success, when Reed Hastings found a VHS copy of Apollo 13 that he had borrowed from his local Blockbuster long ago and forgotten to return.

Stephen King is one of the most prolific and influential authors of all time, and the authority on the horror and sci-fi genre. His books have been adapted into countless films and television projects, some of them even more than once.
Many iconic filmmakers have attempted to adapt King's works, and some of them were successful, like frequent collaborator Mike Flanagan, and others were not on King's favorite list due to the many changes to their material. One horror veteran auteur who hasn't attempted to adapt one of King's works is James Wan, famous for works like Saw, Insidious, and The Conjuring. In a new appearance on The Kingcast, Wan revealed that the "only" novel for him to adapt is one of King's most ambitious works: The Stand.

The Green Mile, a supernatural prison drama from 1999, is finding new life on the free streaming service Tubi. The Stephen King adaptation stars Tom Hanks in one of his genuinely underrated performances. The film currently sits at the third spot on Tubi's Top 10 list of the service's most-watched films.
Written and directed by Frank Darabont, The Green Mile follows a group of prison guards working at the Cold Mountain Penitentiary death row, or as everyone calls it, "The Green Mile." Led by Officer Paul Edgecomb (Hanks), the group receives John Coffey (Michael Clarke Duncan), a new inmate who has been sentenced to death for a horrible crime. Coffey doesn't behave like a murderer and claims that he's innocent. Edgecomb eventually realizes that the convict even possesses an extraordinary power to heal people. But we'll leave it at that for those who still haven't seen this classic, as we'd rather not spoil it for you.

The NCIS cast adds a new face during a new episode for Season 22.
The NCIS winter premiere arrives on Monday, January 27, ending the long hiatus between new episodes.
Agent Alden Parker (played by Gary Cole) has supplied his team with treats for several seasons.
The bakery he frequents is part of the new episode called Baker’s Man.
“After NCIS learns that the owner of Parker’s favorite bakery (guest star Melina Kanakaredes) is being blackmailed, they hatch a plan to save her from the perpetrators,” reads part of the synopsis for NCIS Season 22, Episode 10.
Parker (of course) comes to the rescue of his favorite bakery, but it will lead to some intense drama.
Who plays the owner of Parker’s favorite bakery on NCIS?
Actress Melina Kanakaredes makes her NCIS cast debut on the January 27 episode.
Long-time CBS viewers may immediately recognize Kanakaredes, but some NCIS fans might not remember where she is from.

It’s that time of year again. The chestnuts are roasting, the eggnog is nogging, and some of us are getting ready for a house full of people that will turn this holiday season into a stressful one. In case you haven't heard, Christopher Nolan's deeply heartfelt space drama, "Interstellar," was recently re-released in IMAX to celebrate its 10th anniversary, and it has become a box office hit all over again. Upon its announcement, the film's entire one-week-only run quickly sold out across 166 screens, grossing a higher per-theater average than box office juggernauts like "Wicked" and "Moana 2." Tickets became so hard to find that they were being scalped and price gouged on the secondary market, like cinema's Taylor Swift. In response, IMAX has since extended the run twice over, capitalizing on the film's strong word-of-mouth and turning it into one of the year's must-see films... again!
The return of "Interstellar" proves why IMAX is the future of filmgoing. The company is estimated to earn over $1.2 billion in revenue this year, somehow surpassing their unprecedented $1.06 billion gross from 2023. However, it isn't just IMAX that is bringing in the big bucks.

With the holidays in full swing, it’s time to unwrap the sack and ask point blank: What is the all-time Best Worst Christmas action movie? Invasion USA? Money Train? Maybe the recently released Red One? With plenty of gifts to sift through, John Frankenheimer’s Reindeer Games instantly stands out as the ultimate fun, so-bad-it’s-good yuletide action affair. Even the great Charlize Theron, who has become Hollywood’s most hardened action heroine in the interim, told Esquire Magazine in 2008 that Reindeer Games was the worst movie she ever made, stating:
“Reindeer Games Was a bad, bad, bad movie. But I got to work with John Frannkenheimer. I wasn’t lying to myself. That’s why I did it.”
Indeed, every serious cinephile knows full well that Frankenheimer helmed some of the best cross-genre movies in the 1960s and 1970s, including such minor and major classics as The Young Savages,...

However, there's a reason why they're not often talked about. Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders attempted to recreate the main show's success by exploring international crime. Introduced softly in an episode titled "Beyond Borders" in Season 10, the spinoff series revolved around the FBI's international division to save Americans who get into trouble on foreign soil.

Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders is a spinoff show that the network doesn't want fans to remember. In fact, the two times CBS tried to duplicate...

Tom Hanks' beloved space drama Apollo 13 will arrive on Netflix this January, almost thirty years after its debut. Produced by Universal Pictures and Massive Entertainment, the film was commercially successful, grossing over $355 million against a $52 million budget.
Fans will get the chance to re-experience the glory of Apollo 13 when it hits Netflix on January 1. Directed by Ron Howard from William Broyles Jr. and Al Reinert's screenplay, the 1995 docudrama film adapted astronaut Jim Lovell and Jeffrey Kluger's 1994 book Lost Moon: The Perilous Voyage of Apollo 13, dramatizing the aborted 1970 Apollo 13 lunar mission. The movie follows Lovell and fellow astronauts Jack Swigert and Fred Haise aboard the ill-fated titular spacecraft for the United States' fifth crewed mission to the Moon. Hanks stars as Lovell opposite Kevin Bacon's Swigert and Bill Paxton's Haise. The ensemble cast includes Ed Harris, Kathleen Quinlan, and Gary Sinise.

Mel Gibson’s career has been a rollercoaster ride of successes and failures punctuated by some unpopular opinions and controversial moments. However, back in 1996 Gibson was still banging out some of his best work. This includes the action thriller Ransom, which has scored a huge resurgence on Tubi since arriving on the free streaming platform recently.
The film stars Gibson as Tom Mullen, a wealthy airline owner whose life is upended when his son, Sean, is kidnapped. Director Ron Howard delivers a blistering fast-paced race against time, which comes with several twist endings and strong performances from Gibson, Rene Russo, and Gary Sinise. Almost thirty years on, the film’s arrival on Tubi has underscored the constant demand for action movies, both old and new, on streaming platforms, and how very few pass by without a stop on a Top 10 chart somewhere.

The horror genre, particularly in a miniseries format, continues to rise in popularity year after year. The best of these produce jaw-dropping and heart-pounding moments that are hard to match with other genres. Rather than a traditional film, where the build-up, middle, and climax have to play out in a brisk feature-length time, in a series, there are no such constraints. This allows creators and directors time to let their storyline develop fully. This freedom allows the intense payoffs of intricate, layered stories, character development, and horrifying elements that make the best of these horror shows so unforgettable.
Though many talented hands go into each and every production, two stand above the rest, with horror stalwarts author Stephen King and filmmaker Mike Flanagan helping create many of the best horror shows of all time. Shows like It and the first part of one of the best horror anthologies, The Haunting of Hill House,...

Yesterday, I wrote a story about how one of my favourite Thanksgiving movies, Dutch, seems to be nearly impossible to find nowadays, with the out-of-print DVD and Blu-ray pretty pricey and the movie not streaming at all on any service (although some readers noted it used to be on HBO Max). I’ve written at length about movies that are hard to find, but just how popular some of the missing titles are shocks me. It’s gotten to the point where niche titles, or at least ones with some kind of cult behind them, are often easier to find than formerly popular ones. Consider the fact that just today, Michael Mann’s The Keep, which never even got a DVD release, has just been announced for 4K Blu-ray. I was pondering this very thing when I received a text from a friend of the site, Paul Shirey, who used...
