Review: King of the Hill has been off the air since 2009 and a lot has changed since then. The world is a very different place and so there is always the question of whether or not that the humor would translate into modern era. And I’m happy to say that this new iteration absolutely nails the tone and spirit of what made Koth great. This is my favorite animated series of all time, so I had very high expectations, and they were met in just about every way.

The actor died on the spot due to three gunshots that Joss had taken.

Behind the voice of the famous character lies a person’s story that is layered, one that ended too soon in a chilling turn of events. The actor was not only known for his role as John Redcorn, but also appeared in hit shows like Parks and Recreation and Walker, Texas Ranger, often representing Native American characters with depth and dignity. Though his end was tragic and appalling, Jonathan Joss’s life had always been filled with highs and lows.

In the video, a man putters up and down the street carrying a pitchfork, shouting at his neighbors and at no one, punctuated by the occasional obscenity. He isn’t happy that the neighbors are filming. “You guys are taping me? For what?” he asks. “I’m walking down the street! I’m rehearsing! I make movies, man! I’m rehearsing a scene.” During the four-minute, 30-second clip, later shared with local TV news stations in San Antonio, the man mentions police visits to the neighborhood, which had been frequent.

While the reboot idea for ’90s and 2000s pop culture is already played out, there are some exceptions that come back as if they never went away. King of the Hill decided against coming back exactly as it was, allowing the series to age as if he had been away for nine years. The result is a more mature show that digs into the world as it is in 2025, while also exploring new dynamics between the Hills and their Arlen neighbors. While some shows have found a rocky reception upon their return, King of the Hill feels fresh and insightful in ways only this series ever could.

Our favorite satire comedy, King of the Hill, is all set to return on Hulu after 16 years in a revival we never expected. With the changing streaming landscape, the channel thought it would be a great idea to pick up King of the Hill, right where it left off, and serve viewers with season 14 on August 4, 2025.

Hank and Peggy Hill will be seen returning to their homeland, Arlen, Texas, after spending years abroad. With most of its original cast intact, the show will explore updated cultural references, woven with timeless themes giving equal parts nostalgia and relevance, and we can’t wait to watch it.

King of the Hill returns in a time when streaming platforms are leaning heavily into the nostalgia trope. However, the reason for its comeback is a lot deeper than just fan demand.

For 13 seasons from 1997 to 2009, Hank Hill, the hero of the classic Fox animated comedy King of the Hill, existed at a precarious middle point of American culture. In some episodes, his fixation on old-fashioned values made him come across as the most repressed, clueless old man in the world. In others, it was clear that many of the things Hank stood for — particularly the importance of hard work, and of treating other people with respect and decency — were being dismissed far too easily by a rapidly-changing culture.

This was all by design.

King of the Hill fans are heading back to Arlen after 15 years, as the hit animated series has been revived. An all-new season is set to drop on Hulu for a streaming release on Aug. 4, 2025.

Sadly, some members of the King of the Hill family have since passed away. This includes Brittany Murphy and Tom Petty, who respectively voiced Luanne and Lucky. It had been unclear if the characters would be featured in the revival, and fans were wondering if the two might come back with new voice actors in the roles. In a recent interview with IGN to promote the revival, showrunner Saladin Patterson confirmed that Lucky and Luanne weren't recast, as that just wouldn't have felt right.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mangione died at his home in Rochester, New York, on Tuesday. While an exact cause of death isn't yet known, the musician reportedly died in his sleep. His attorney, Belock Levine & Hoffman Llp's Peter S. Matorin, confirmed Mangione's passing.

Writer-director Mike Judge may be best known for creating the animated MTV series Beavis and Butt-Headand Fox’s King of the Hill, but he’s also an accomplished filmmaker. Ten years after his cult classic Office Space (1999) was released, Judge wrote and directed the Jason Bateman-led comedy Extract. It had been dominating Paramount+’s streaming charts as of late, but per FlixPatrol, Extract has now fallen to the No. 4 spot in Paramount+’s Top 10 Movies in the U.S.

Directed by the creator of several iconic adult cartoon series, including Beavis and Butt-Head and King of the Hill, Judge's 2009 live-action comedy film Extract has become a streaming hit. The film climbed to #2 most streamed film on Paramount+ U.S.Extract stars Jason Bateman as Joel Reynolds, the founder of a company specializing in making flavoring extracts. The film had an $8 million budget to work with and ultimately grossed $10.8 million at the global box offices. Despite the lukewarm financial success, Extract was generally positively received and currently has a 62% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Extract is a satire showing the company's questionable working conditions. When an accident results in one of Joel's employees, Dean Slade, played by Ben Affleck, losing a testicle, Cindy, a con artist played by Mila Kunis, steps in to capitalize on the incident.

A week after King of the Hill star Jonathan Joss was shot and killed in what his husband Tristan Kern de Gonzales says was a homophobic attack, fans paid their respects to the late John Redcorn actor.

Roughly 100 mourners gathered at Crockett Park in Joss’ hometown of San Antonio on Sunday, leaving flowers, lighting candles and sharing their memories of the actor at a vigil hosted by Pride Center San Antonio.

Actor Jonathan Joss, who voiced the character John Redcorn in seasons two through 13 of King of the Hill, has died at 59 after being fatally shot in San Antonio, Texas.

According to the San Antonio Police Department, officers had been dispatched to Dorsey Drive around 7:00 p.m. on June 1 for a shooting. They arrived to find Joss, whose legal name is Jonathan Joss Gonzales, next to the roadway after he was shot. Authorities tried life-saving measures on him until Ems arrived and pronounced him dead.

The suspect, Sigfredo Alvarez Ceja, had been taken into custody and booked on a murder charge, the Sapd reported.

The San Antonio Police Department on Thursday walked back its insistence that there was “no evidence” to suggest King of the Hill actor Jonathan Joss’ killing was motivated by homophobia.

Police Chief Bill McManus said today in a news conference that it had been “way, way, way premature” for the department to issue a statement earlier this week dispelling the idea that the killing was a hate crime, after Joss’ husband Tristan Kern de Gonzales detailed the events that preceded the shooting, saying it was the result of repeated and “openly homophobic” harassment.

“We understand that many in the LGBTQ+ community are feeling anxious and concerned. A lot of it has to do with that premature statement that we released, and again, I own that. We shouldn’t have done it,” McManus said. “The loss of Jonathan Joss was tragic and most heavily felt by the LGBTQ+ community.”

Jalen McKee-Rodriguez of the San Antonio City Council is outraged that the police department ruled out the possibility that the murder of Jonathan Joss was a hate crime before the actor’s body was even cold.

On Sunday evening, according to the San Antonio Police Department, Sigfredo Alvarez Ceja, a neighbor to the late King of the Hill and Parks and Recreation star, pulled up to Joss’ property in a vehicle and began arguing with him. Ceja, 56, then drew a rifle and shot Joss multiple times before driving away. When police officers responded to the 911 call about an active shooting, they found Joss dead on the scene, and they swiftly arrested Ceja just a block away from where he allegedly murdered his neighbor.

Ceja was charged with felony first-degree murder, telling the arresting officers simply, “I shot him.” He is now out on bail.
