Although the web-based chat service Omegle no longer exists, several similar apps are still available today. Put simply, these apps allow users to connect with random people via video chat. Over the years, Omegle became infamous for the unbelievably creepy individuals one could encounter, as well as for the horror-themed pranks often shared on platforms like YouTube.
One popular prank involved using a fake "skip" button to create the illusion that, no matter what, you kept reconnecting with the same creepy person. This horror short builds on those elements-but in this case, the horror isn't a prank, and the consequences go far beyond just a few laughs or frustration.
I liked the concept, and some of the characters' actions only make sense in hindsight, which adds a nice surprise element. Notably, the creepy character's name-Samara-is likely a homage to Samara Morgan, the eerie antagonist from The Ring.
