The Lord of All Future Space & Time

I saw this at the 29th Annual LA Shorts Film Festival. Out of all the films shown, this was hands down my favorite.

The way the writing blends comedy with thought-provoking presentations on time's relationship to cause and effect is genius. I found myself pleasantly pulled between laughter and introspection.

Roy Williams Jr., as the lead, delivers a powerful performance with various moments of catharsis that will leave the viewer saying "YES! I feel this deep in my bones". Mark Benninghoffen did a great job as our charming narrator throughout the film. This was certainly fun watch that hooks its viewers immediately from the beginning and refuses to let you go! Even after it's over.

Just when you thought the multiverse or time travel flicks were getting old, you get this delightful short. From the opening moment to the final beat, this film rocks. The filmmakers employee every tool in their arsenal - comedy, drama, sci-fi, animation and they do it well. I said to a friend when leaving, "When is the series or the full length film coming?".

There is a lot of heart in what might seem like just a fun romp. The stakes are very high for our lead character Dyson Wheeler and Roy Williams Jr. Does a material job of living in that skin. Also great was Paul Major as Dumb Nate. Point in fact, this short is well cast across the board. Terrific direction, narration music and writing.

I look forward to this group's next project.

I was completely blown away by this film.

From the very first few minutes, I found myself sitting up, eyes wide, thinking, "Wait... hold on this is not what I expected." And I mean that in the best possible way. This short film defied expectations and delivered a powerful, high concept story with the kind of precision and emotional punch you usually only get in big budget features.

The actor playing the lead character, Dyson, is a generational talent. His performance was magnetic....layered, intense, and brutally honest. He absolutely crushed it. In my opinion, at its core, this is a revenge film, and honestly, who doesn't love a good revenge story? I took so much satisfaction in watching him even the score.

But what truly sets this film apart is its execution. The attention to detail in every frame, every scene-costume, lighting, pacing-nothing was overlooked. The entire cast brought their A-game; not a single weak link disrupted the illusion, which is extremely rare.

What's even more impressive is how the story incorporates time travel and multiverse elements in a way that feels fresh, not overdone. In an era where those themes are everywhere, this film found a new angle and it worked.

And can we talk about the score and soundtrack? Phenomenal. Every piece of music felt intentional, elevating the tension, the emotion, the stakes.

This was a short film with long-lasting impact. I can't wait to watch it again and I have a feeling this won't be the last time we're hearing about this Roy Williams Jr fellow.

From the first image, you know you're in the hands of fantastic storytellers. The cinematography in this piece is truly masterful. The setting is very much a character. The desert is photographed beautifully. You can almost feel the heat radiate through the screen.

Chris Paul Russell is a writer/director to watch. This is my first time engaging with his work and he's really special. TLOAFSAT gender bends like there's no tomorrow. Russell never allows the film to get away from him. The tone of the piece is so sure, so certain.

The cast is phenomenal. Roy Williams, Jr. Is the right man to lead us through this journey. Williams does more with his eyes than most actors can do with several pages of dialogue. You feel everything he feels. Mark Bennighoffen's narration is absolutely perfect. Paul Major as "Dumb Nate" is another standout. There are no weak links in this cast.

Think Coen Brothers meets "Amélie" on Mars~with a sprinkle of Tarantino and a wink from Kubrick.

🎶 The music? Transcendent. Part frontier twang, part celestial groove, it weaves the mood with bold flair~sometimes haunting, sometimes hilarious, always iconic.

🎨 The visual artistry? A love letter to the unexpected. Dust meets stardust. Landscapes stretch like time itself. The camera dances with storytelling, never wasting a frame.

😂 The comedy? Whip*smart and unapologetically weird in the best way. It's Monty Python-meets-Matrix but with a heart and soul all its own.

🌍 The stakes? Nothing less than saving the fabric of reality and reclaiming love lost in a world gone quantum.
