Jarann is a breathe of fresh air amidst the chaos of action-packed movies and cliche dramas. While I've always believed that Marathi films don't get the appreciation and recognition they deserve, movies like these solidify the fact that the Marathi Film Industry can actually do better thrillers than Bollywood. This movie is the perfect example of how even the overused genre of horror movies (here, psychological thriller) can be done well.
The overall story, although seems inspired at places, is nevertheless fantastic. The background music perfectly adds on to the tense atmosphere which continues throughout the film. And of course, the top notch acting! Amruta Subash perfectly captures the niches of someone suffering from psychological problems and mark my words, you'll be TERRIFIED of her. I wish Anita Date-Kelkar had some more screen time, but whatever limited scenes she has done, she has made her impact. The plot is very logical and finding loopholes is almost impossible. Although the movie contains quite a few jumpscares, I appreciated the scenes of slow-burn tension more, which, thankfully, are abundant.
Overall, Jarann is definitely a worthwhile watch for it's gripping story and fantastic performances.

Movie Review: Jarann ( Black Magic) , marathi film screening in cinema halls !!
A brilliant film directed by Rushikesh Gupte, Jarann or black magic explores the life of Radha ( Amruta Subhash), a woman with psychological disorders caused due to traumatic incidents experienced by her during her childhood days in her remote village in Konkan. Her mind creates an alternate reality which slowly manifests itself so firmly leading to a series of sinister events !!
Amruta Subhash is just wow!! 😲 .. she showcases a wide range of emotions - terrified & terrifying and is terrific in both👍👌 !! It is her film all the way. She is ably supported by Anita Date who assumes the role of Ganguti , Radha's childhood nemesis and a witch ,who has supposedly cast a spell on Radha .. Date is superb in her role extremely terrifying & whose mere presence can send a chill down your spine!! Anil Kadam who has played the role of the protagonist's psychiatrist has also played his part well.
The use of props like an eerie doll , planchet beads , dark attic, great editing and cinematography combined with a scary background score are instrumental in creating a lot of jumpscare moments without resorting to actual blood & gore !!
And finally, the twist in the end , truely unfathomable!! Kodos to the makers for trying something different!!
Jarann's screenplay is perched in the grey zone between old world occult beliefs and psychological fragility of an unstable mind.
This genre is rarely explored in Marathi cimema and such a movie with a great production value is rarely seen !! Highly recommended!! 😊👌👍😲
Highly recommended!!
Going with 4/5 for this one .. adios 😊!!

A must-watch Marathi psychological horror thriller that hits hard with its message.
This movie stands out not just in the Marathi film industry, but also in the broader Indian cinema space. It tackles real-world issues wrapped in a unique storyline that's both gripping and thought-provoking.
The film delivers a powerful message, one that lingers long after the credits roll - and depending on your beliefs, it might just shake you up. The cast is exceptional, the acting is spot on, and the execution is refreshingly bold.
It's rare to find a horror-thriller that's both entertaining and meaningful. This is that rare gem. An unexpected surprise, and honestly, the best Marathi psychological horror film since Tumbbad.
Highly recommended for Marathi speakers and non-Marathi audiences alike - especially for fans of horror, thrillers, and cinema with substance.

Jarann is a marathi psychological thriller movie. It's not a horror film but it's presented like one. The story revolves around a 40 year old woman suffering from a serious psychological disorder. She creates her own version of reality to find happiness but eventually gets trapped in a dangerous situation of her own making.
The film hooks you with its storytelling, visuals and music. However its biggest drawback is the unnecessary horror angle. Without that it could have been one of the best marathi psychological thrillers.
As you watch you think youve figured out what's going to happen and at the climax it feels like your guess was right. But then the movie takes a sharp turn with a twist you never expected. That's the film's biggest strength.
However in the last five minutes of the climax the movie ends suddenly and leaves things unclear. I couldn't understand what the makers were trying to convey in the ending. Can anyone explain what they were trying to say..?

Brilliant acting , superb story. Last few minutes are worth the penny. Takes a little too much time to establish the plot and pushes climax at the end but overall wonderful experience.
Amruta Subhash and Anita date have been phenomenal in their roles.
I loved how they captured things around Jarann and superstitions followed in Indian households like "drushta" etc. Background score keeps you hooked and engaged.
Although suspense seems predictable from the beginning, it is so worth watching till the end. Nice break from mediocre bollywood horror comedy movies. This is certainly a movie not to be missed.
