Deadly Retreat

Needless to say that I had indeed never even heard about this 2024 horror comedy titled "Deadly Retreat" from writers and directors Catina R. Fletcher and Denisha Mitchell prior to stumbling upon it by random chance here in 2025. And given my love of all things horror, and the fact that this was a movie that I hadn't already seen, of course I opted to check it out.

The storyline in the movie wasn't exactly great. In fact, it was a swing and a miss in terms of entertaining me.

Of course I was not familiar with a single actor or actress on the cast list, and that was actually one thing that the movie had working for it. Yeah, I do enjoy watching new and unfamiliar talents on the screen whenever I sit down to watch a movie. The acting performances in "Deadly Retreat" were fair, but nothing outstanding.

This was a low budget movie that looked, felt and sounded like it was shot on someone's digital video camera as a home video project. The movie plays at a mere 46 minutes. And it was recorded with inferior equipment; the sound was way off scale when there was traffic in the background or when they were walking on dry leaves in the forest.

My rating of "Deadly Retreat" lands on a two out of ten stars.

I'll give it some points for the "comedic" value if you could even call it that. The movie is just weird. I get this isn't a high production value movie (likely shot by an amateur filmmaker) but the plot holes are excessive. There's lots of weird things like characters seemingly magically able to appear and disappear in a split second like some sort of anime character. Many of the scenes are just awkward. Don't get me started on the poor transitioning between scenes. I'm not even sure how I stumbled on this movie but I wish I could get my 46 minutes back.the ending was slightly unexpected but overall the movie was not great.

They must have written the movie summary about another movie, because none of it applies to this movie. Not entertaining at all. Not funny at all. Not scary at all. Not thrilling in any way, shape, or form. Very low-brow, obvious humor. Very stereotypical jokes and characters. Corny and obvious twist, that it seems they put no thought or effort into.

I know I should have guessed when I saw that it was 46 minutes long. Guess I was hoping for a rare gem because of the summary they gave.

Actors that no one's ever heard of, which isn't necessarily always a bad thing. It's just that I honestly doubt that any of these characters could act their way out of a soaking wet paper-bag.
