In life, Curtis Mayfield was a very upstanding and well-preserved man, so don't expect to see controversy about his life or images of his final days. You will see a man who was passionate about music, who played every note with his heart, and who knew he was building a legacy. H. E. R. Is an incredible artist, and seeing her make her directorial debut on such an exciting project like this is something that really gets us excited to see what her next steps will be cause she takes audiences on a spiritual journey, delving into her own artistic being and that of several artists to find Mayfield's voice within. The Makings of Curtis Mayfield is undoubtedly a passion project for H. E. R. Born from the artist's love for music!!! It would be interesting to cut some of the interviews with some artists like Dr. Dre for example and add rare scenes of Mayfield in the studio and/or reports from people who had the honor of seeing up close what his work was like during his lifetime. In the end credits, H. E. R. Sings one of her favorite Curtis songs, making everyone emotional, including Mayfields family who was attending the premiere on sxsw yesterday.
