While I really like this idea, I just can't in good conscience support or promote a show that applauds the waste of resources by some when so many others cannot afford to heat their home or have power. This makes me sad, really. In order for me to actually appreciate something like this the prize would need to be a donation to organizations that help people with affording utilities.
Went from a good show that judged people on there christmas light set-up, to a show about peoples life stories. Its called the great christmas light fight because of the lights. not because of the persons life story.
The two hosts get everyone's hopes up by telling them they will be hard to beat and they don't end up winning.
The episode I am watching now, they are inside someones house! that has nothing to do with christmas light display. Show went downhill really quick.
Stick with the first two seasons and do yourself a favor and stop there

Always enjoy watching these back at Christmastime. The seasons are shot a year in advance, and as the disclaimer said before each episode this season - airing 2020 was shot in 2019 - they were shot prior to Covid restrictions.
I agree with one of the reviewers - this show is terribly wasteful. Don't get me wrong, I love Christmas light displays. I used to enjoy riding around my neighborhood at night in December looking at all of the different kinds of colorful lights on people's houses. But a competition where the goal is to see who can have the brightest and most dramatic light display does nothing but indicate the lack of knowledge (really, just plain ignorance) on the part of the producer of people who struggle just to keep their electricity on, due to not always having enough money to pay their utility bill, and have to use energy assistance. Oh well, not like I should've expected much. ABC is a mindless channel. I actually forget this show exists every year, until I happen to be watching TV on a random Sunday evening. I shake my head whenever I see it. It was a cute idea, but it's been on TV for too long. It's gaudy, over the top, and detracts from the true meaning of Christmas. It needs to be canceled.
In this show they do not give it to the best house. For example, I just watched one where it was basically a carnival more than anything. They even described it as an "amusement park". But nothing, I mean? 0% of it was related to Christmas and yet that house won. It's not a good show. Along with the host (which kind of has to do this) is saying the same thing for every house like it's unique even when it's not. Do not waste your life. Life is short and please don't waste it on a tv show that doesn't even judge the winner by the criteria. SAVE YOURSELVES!
