Cliffhanger Reboot Sequel Plans Already in Motion
Image
Plans are already being made for a sequel to a yet-to-be-released reboot of a beloved Sylvester Stallone movie. One of the biggest action movie stars of all-time, Stallone's movies combined have brought in more than $7.5 billion at the worldwide box office. One of the keys to that success has been Stallone's history of creating franchises.

Stallone's most notable franchises have been the Rambo, Rocky, and Expendables series. In the case of the Rocky franchise, the commercial and critical success of Creed has led to the series outliving Stallone's involvement in it. Now another franchise that Stallone played a pivotal role in seems to be finding success without him.

Dwayne Johnson’s $200 Million Franchise-Killer Silently Surges on Streaming Charts
Image
It’s been a quiet year for Dwayne Johnson so far after starring in Moana 2 last year, but to help bridge the gap between projects, one of his most controversial movies has returned to streaming charts. Johnson stars alongside Pierce Brosnan(James Bond) and Aldis Hodge (Cross) in Black Adam, the 2022 comic book movie that some thought was going to revive the Dceu. Black Adam is streaming on HBO Max in America and globally, where it has returned to the top 10 three years later in countries such as Turkey, Armenia, and Zimbabwe.

Black Adam was met with an extremely divisive reception upon release. The film debuted with a “Rotten...

In the process, Weapons has outperformed several horror films that were released this year.

Time travel is a concept long discussed within film and TV, with most movies venturing into the endless possibilities with sincerity. However, one of the sub-genre's most popular sleeper hits took the concept and passed it through a comedy writing room, creating the most unlikely of successes. Starring John Cusackas Adam, alongside his friends Lou (Rob Corddry) and Nick (Craig Robinson), the brilliant Hot Tub Time Machine sees the trio, and Jacob (Clark Duke), transported back to 1986 via the titular leisure activity.

Fifteen years since it first debuted, Hot Tub Time Machine is still as popular as ever, officially joining the ranks of the ten most-streamed movies on Peacock in the U.S., per FlixPatrol. As of July 27, the movie finished tenth on the list, with the billion-dollar Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom at #9, and Steve Carell's family-friendly adventure Horton Hears a Who! at #8. Chris Pratt's Critically Panned Sci-Fi Blockbuster Roars Back to Life on the U.S. Streaming Charts

Universal’s Jurassic World Rebirth is one of several big-hitters currently dominating the global box office. Alongside James Gunn's Superman and the brand new The Fantastic Four: First Steps, led by Pedro Pascal, Rebirth is proving once again that the Jurassic Park franchise is timeless. Whilst the latest, seventh installment is edging closer to the billion-dollar mark at the box office, one of its predecessors has joined the highest ranks on streaming.

Per FlixPatrol, as of July 27, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, the 2018 sequel to Jurassic World starring Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Jeff Goldblum, is one of the ten most-streamed movies on Peacock in the U.S. Entering the list at #9, Fallen Kingdom is one place higher than the tenth-placed Hot Tub Time Machine. ‘Sinners’ and ‘Superman’ Are Hits, but Superheroes and Horror Movies Are No Longer Box Office Guarantees
Image
It wasn’t so long ago that audiences would show up to seemingly any movie featuring a costumed hero or a masked killer. But times and standards have changed, and lately, Hollywood’s two most reliable genres — superheroes and horror — are showing signs of fatigue.

“People haven’t stopped loving horror or superhero films, but they stopped loving mediocre entries in those worlds,” says exhibitor Mike Barstow, executive VP of Midwest-based Acx Cinemas. “There’s a demand for higher quality.”

Analysts believe there are different reasons behind the wear and tear of each. Yet both types of fare appear to have reached the oversaturation point. That’s not to say that movies in either genre can’t or won’t break through — “Sinners” ($365 million), “Superman” ($426 million to date) and “Final Destination: Bloodlines” ($285 million) are recent triumphs — but they are no longer box office guarantees.

“Hollywood takes the less risk-adverse approach...

$37M Horror Movie Flop Is Now Finding Its Audience
Image
While there are many months still to come, 2025 has proven itself to be incredibly inconsistent in the horror genre thus far. While Sinners impressed critics and audiences upon its release in April and continues to succeed on streaming, other movies have underperformed expectations.

This has happened to distributors who are usually major voices within the horror genre. A24, for example, has yet to produce a horror or thriller film this year that was successful both critically and commercially. They had back-to-back flops with both Opus and Death of a Unicorn, and then even Bring Her Back, which got great reviews, did not have a huge box-office take home.

Another company that has struggled this year is Blumhouse. They started off the year on a rocky note with their remake of Wolf Man. After that movie underperformed, they had another divisive film with The Woman in the Yard.

M3GAN 2.0 Worldwide Box Office: Sequel Stalls Below $40M, Marking Major Setback For Blumhouse
Image
M3GAN 2.0 Struggling To Hit $40 Million At The Worldwide Box Office! ( Photo Credit – Instagram )

Blumhouse had hoped for another crowd-puller, but M3GAN 2.0 is barely holding its ground. As of now, Universal may be enjoying big numbers from Jurassic World Rebirth and the staying power of How to Train Your Dragon, but their horror follow-up to the hit M3GAN is turning into a misfire. Despite coming from the same team that turned the killer-doll concept into a surprise hit, this sequel is slipping fast.

‘M3GAN 2.0’ Fails to Slay at the Global Box Office Following Digital Debut
Image
Blumhouse boss Jason Blum recently went on Matt Belloni’s The Town podcast to discuss the slump that the company is currently in, following the box office failure of a string of titles across 2024 and 2025. In fact, Blumhouse hasn’t had a bona fide hit since late 2023’s Five Nights at Freddy’s, which, ironically, it didn’t see coming. Blum admitted that the company might have overestimated the cultural relevance of the first M3GAN film, which rode a wave of organic social media publicity and grossed over $180 million worldwide a couple of years ago, because M3GAN 2.0 has barely scraped past the $35 million mark. It’s already available on PVOD platforms, following a disappointing run that puts a large question mark on the property’s future.

With under $25 million domestically and just around $15 million from overseas markets, M3GAN 2.0 has grossed $37 million at the worldwide box office so far. The...

Together Becomes Top-Rated Horror Movie Of 2025 With Perfect Rotten Tomatoes Score Ahead of Release
Image
Neon’s Together Scores 100% At Rotten Tomatoes Before Wider Release! (Photo Credit – Instagram)

Together is set to arrive in theaters at the end of July, but its reputation is already miles ahead. The body horror film from Michael Shanks, starring Dave Franco and Alison Brie, follows a couple whose bond becomes disturbingly physical as their relationship reaches a breaking point.

It premiered in January at Sundance, and that first impression has not faded, thanks to critics who embraced it completely. For now, it sits with a spotless 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. Now, whether that score stays is anybody’s guess, but even for a year packed with horror, Together has carved its space near the top.

Blumhouse | Indie horror studio hit by reports of layoffs
Image
A number of staff have been laid off at Blumhouse Productions, the indie horror studio behind June’s M3GAN 2.0.

As part of a wider company restructuring effort, indie horror studio Blumhouse Productions has laid off six members of staff across its various departments. According to industry sources reported by Deadline and TheWrap, those affected are “largely junior-level executives and support staff,” including Haley Pigman – a creative development manager who worked on The Woman In The Yard, released earlier this year.

In total, Blumhouse employs around 100 people.

The layoffs reports emerge in the middle of a tricky year for the studio. Its slate of films for 2025, which has also included Leigh Whannell’s Wolf Man and Christopher Landon’s Drop, have more than made their budgets back, but failed to take off in the same way as Blumhouse’s hits from previous years.

The studio was bullish about the prospects...

Blumhouse Layoffs: 6 Film and TV Staffers Fired Amid Restructuring
Image
Blumhouse laid off six staffers across film, television and casting departments amid larger company restructuring, TheWrap has learned.

The independent studio employs around 100 people.

The staffers affected are largely junior-level executives and support staff. Amongst those affected was Haley Pigman, a creative development manager who previously worked on Blumhouse titles like “The Woman in the Yard.”

The studio has been the industry standard for consistent horror success at the box office for years, yielding high concept, low-budget hits every year and spawning multiple franchises in the process.

But for the past 18 months, the studio has suffered its first extended slump, and the sequel that was supposed to get things back on track, “M3GAN 2.0,” instead continued the trend, suffering a poor $10.2 million domestic/$17.1 million global opening weekend. None of the affected staffers worked on the film.

Next up, “The Black Phone 2,” which will be Blumhouse’s Halloween offering this year,...

Blumhouse Undergoes Layoffs In Film & Television
Image
Exclusive: Blumhouse has laid off six staffers across film, television and casting, Deadline has learned. A spokesperson for the independent studio, which employs around 100 people, confirmed that due to restructuring, six roles were impacted last week.

Those departing are believed to include largely junior-level executives and support staff, with Manager, Creative Development Haley Pigman, who has worked on such Blumhouse movies as the March release The Woman in the Yard, directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, among them.

The cuts come two weeks after the disappointing opening of Blumhouse’s M3GAN 2.0, which has performed below expectations. None of the executives affected by the layoffs worked on the film, sources said.

The restructuring of multiple divisions and subsequent headcount reduction follows the downsizing of the TV division in 2023 when Chris McCumber stepped down as Blumhouse Television President and under 10 people were laid off. (He was replaced by Melissa Aouate who was named TV President in April.

This Controversial 2020 Action Movie Is Now A Streaming Hit On Peacock
Image
Craig Zobel's The Hunt, which was the center of controversy when it was released in 2020, has surprisingly returned to the zeitgeist after five years. However, this time, it is being embraced by fans of the horror genre in the United States. Since it is one of the movies like The Running Man to stream while waiting for Glen Powell's remake to release, it is easy to see why The Hunt has had a recent resurgence.

2025's The Woman in the Yard is streaming currently too, and is the most recent Blumhouse production to split audiences and critics. The production house has a reputation for producing the most controversial and intense horror movies, which often feature succinct and meaningful commentary, which inevitably causes controversy when they're released.

According to aFlixPatrol report, The Hunt is currently in Peacock's top 10 in the U.S.The Hunt was also a hit on Netflix last year,...

Damon Lindelof's Extremely Controversial 5-Year-Old Action Movie Is Blowing Up the Streaming Charts
Image
The Damon Lindelof-produced horror movie The Hunt is having a major streaming resurgence more than five years after its release. Lindelof produced and co-wrote the action horror movie for director Craig Zobel.

Per FlixPatrol, The Hunt has suddenly shot back up on Peacock's Top 10 Movies list and is ranked as the streaming service's #4 most popular movie, as of Sunday, July 13. The movie impressively jumped six places on the list as of this writing and is currently ahead of much more memorable blockbusters like Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Despicable Me 3 and Legally Blonde.

The Hunt now only ranks behind the 2025 thriller Drop, the true-crime documentary The Idaho Student Murders and recent horror hit The Woman in the Yard among all of Peacock's movies. This feat is particularly impressive since The Hunt was first made available on Peacock in May 2023, whereas all three films leading it on Peacock's top movies...

After Just 1 Day, Michael Bay's Sleeper Thriller With 84% on Rotten Tomatoes Has Already Topped the Streaming Charts
Image
Michael Bay is a filmmaker who is largely known for his high-octane, explosive storytelling. However, many of his projects as a producer have been widely different from his on-brand, visual effects-filled directorial efforts.

One example is 2025's Drop, for which Bay is a producer. The film comes from Scream franchise director Christopher Landon, and it premiered this year at the SXSW Festival to perfect reviews, but it fell largely under the radar after its Apr. 11 wide release, despite positive reviews and a strong box office run. However,Drop has turned into a sleeper hit and is getting its revenge on streaming, topping the charts on Peacock one day after its release, per FlixPatrol.

Three months after its Apr. 11 theatrical release, Drop premiered on streaming on Peacock on July 11. The mystery thriller didn't waste any time, and it headed straight for the No. 1 position, replacing the documentary The Idaho Student Murders for the top spot.

Blumhouse’s Drop Ott Release Update: The Studio’s Best Thriller Of 2025 Is Now Available To Stream
Image
Blumhouse’s Drop Gets Ott Release After Strong Reviews & Box Office Success (Photo Credit – Instagram)

Blumhouse has had a rough and disastrous run in 2025. The studio behind some of the most surprising horror hits in recent years seemed to have lost its rhythm. Early in the year, Wolf Man hit theaters with promise but left little impact, and it barely doubled its budget and sat at a cold 48% rating.

Then came The Woman in the Yard, which performed even worse, weighed down by themes that did not land and box office numbers that never climbed. Even M3GAN 2.0, which was expected to be a safe win after the original’s success, could not escape the slump, thanks to lukewarm reviews and stalled ticket sales.

Image
When & Where To Watch Rami Malek’s The Amateur On Ott? (Photo Credit – Prime Video)

Rami Malek returned to the spotlight earlier this year with The Amateur, a thriller that put him at the center of a revenge-driven spy story. The actor, known for Mr. Robot and his Oscar-winning turn as Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody, brought weight to a film that didn’t quite meet expectations at the box office.

Despite a cast stacked with talent like Rachel Brosnahan, Jon Bernthal, and Laurence Fishburne, the Amateur pulled in $96 million globally (per Box Office Mojo). However, once marketing and other costs were factored in, that didn’t cover its $60 million budget.

The Amateur Ott Release Date

Now, The Amateur is heading to streaming soon. The movie lands on Hulu on July 17, 2025, giving it a fresh opportunity to reach a wider audience at home. Viewers with the Disney+ bundle can also stream it there.

Netflix Seals Multi-Year Pact With Carry-On Director Jaume Collet-Serra
David Fincher
Netflix confirmed on 9 July that Collet-Serra has signed a wide-ranging production agreement covering feature development, directing and producing duties for its global service, a step the company says will “keep our momentum going” after their recent collaboration. The pact places the 51-year-old filmmaker in an elite circle that includes David Fincher and Noah Baumbach, two of the few other directors with comparable arrangements at the platform.

The move follows the outsize success of Carry-On, an airport-set thriller that has drawn 185 million views since December and now ranks behind only Red Notice among Netflix originals. Collet-Serra’s experience on that project, he said, demonstrated that the streamer “knows how to deliver big, high-stakes stories that audiences love,” a sentiment echoed by Netflix film vice-president Doug Belgrad.

First on the new slate is An Innocent Girl, a Washington-set psychological thriller produced with Berlanti/Schechter Films; the story follows an ambitious woman...

Don’t Believe the Lies: This Peacock Horror Movie is Actually One of the Year’s Best
Image
I try not to read any critics’ reviews until after I’ve seen a movie myself. That isn’t to say I dismiss them, but I try to go in as unbiased as possible. Critics serve a key role, no doubt, much as people might begrudge them, though they’re also just people. Everyone feels differently about everything. While Managing Editor Josh Korngut and I might be the same person, I otherwise respond to art in my own way. So, too, does everyone else.

What I’m getting at is sometimes the year’s big critical flop isn’t so bad after. More than that, it’s sometimes even good. An early column I worked on here at Dread Central was focused on just that—rotten movies that deserved better. So, I’m certainly aware of a movie’s critical reception when I go into it, but I try really...

Carry-On Director Jaume Collet-Serra Signs Overall Film Deal With Netflix, Includes Cliffhanger Remake
Image
Carry-Ondirector Jaume Collet-Serra signs an overall film deal with Netflix, and one of his top projects is a new Cliffhanger.

Per Deadline, Collet-Serra has officially signed a multi-year overall film deal with the streaming giant, and has no less than three features in the works that will presumably be released through Netflix. Among these are psychological thriller An Innocent Girl, survival thriller Play Dead, and a re-imagining of 1993's Cliffhanger already set to star Lily James and Pierce Brosnan.

An Innocent Girl is described as a tight psychological thriller in which an ambitious young woman is drawn into the private lives of a high-power D.C. couple, which soon spirals into a story of sex, murder, and the lust for power. Play Dead was noted as being akin to Don't Breathe crossed with 1917, implying plenty of tense moments amidst some massive set pieces. Neither film currently has a planned release date,...

2025 Thriller With 88% Rt Audience Score & Oscar-Winning Star Is Coming To Streaming Next Week
Image
2025 has been a rough year for the thriller genre at the box office. Movies classified as thrillers, such as Blumhouse's The Woman in the Yard, have tended to struggle. Even on streaming, the Sydney Sweeney-led movie Echo Valley received mixed reviews when it hit Apple TV+.

Some thrillers have suffered despite their high-profile casts. Echo Valley, for instance, starred Sweeney (an Emmy nominee) as well as Oscar winner Julianne Moore. Steven Soderbergh's Black Bag featured Michael Fassbender, Cate Blanchett, and Pierce Brosnan, and was one of the best-received movies in the thriller realm.

Another thriller came out this spring with a cast led by Rami Malek. Since his most famous role in the USA Network TV series Mr. Robot, Malek has become a major star. He won an Oscar for playing Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody. Now, his latest work is coming to streaming soon.

Psychological Thriller Becomes #1 Streaming Hit In America Months After $23M Box Office

2025 has been an uneven year for horror movies so far. On the one hand, this year has already had one of the best horror films in recent years with Sinners. Sinners got great reviews, was a box office hit, and then recently became a success when it hit streaming.

On the other hand, some major horror producers have had some disappointments. This includes A24, which had back-to-back flops with Opus and Death of a Unicorn. Their trauma-infused horror movie Bring Her Back got stronger reviews but struggled to get significant ticket sales.

Blumhouse is another studio that has had a disappointing year. They started with a remake of Wolf Man, which did not do nearly as well as it could have. Recently, they have had a similar disappointment with M3GAN 2.0. Now, one of their titles has recently hit streaming and is doing incredibly well.

‘M3GAN 2.0’ Set to Slay Megan Fox’s 46% Rotten Tomatoes Cult Classic at the Global Box Office
Image
Universal might be celebrating the massive opening of Jurassic World Rebirth this weekend, not to mention the sustained success of How to Train Your Dragon, but there’s no denying that the studio's M3GAN 2.0 is possibly one of its biggest recent disasters. The film suffered a monumentally huge second-weekend drop, as it barely managed to retain a spot on the domestic top 10 list. The movie hails from the same creative team that made the original M3GAN a breakout blockbuster only a few years ago, but it’s shaping up to be more of a Joker: Folie à Deux situation than a Conjuring 2.

With only $18 million domestically and another $12 million from overseas markets, the film’s cumulative global box office haul stands at $30 million after 10 days of release. M3GAN 2.0 will likely be removed from hundreds of theaters next week, and, in keeping with Universal tradition, will be made...

Legally Blonde Dethrones Chris Pratt's $1.3 Billion Sci-Fi Film on the Streaming Charts in Major Upset

The iconic 2001 Reese Witherspoon comedy, Legally Blonde, pulls ahead of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom on streaming.

Per FlixPatrol, the hit 24-year-old comedy Legally Blonde took the #3 spot on Peacock's top 10 most streamed shows in the United States as of July 5, 2025. This puts the film ahead of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom despite the recent release of Jurassic World Rebirth. The 2018 Jurassic World film quickly became a streaming hit, but in a huge upset, has been beaten out by the comedy. Considered one of the staple films of the 2000s, the legal comedy follows Witherspoon as sorority girl turned Harvard student Elle Woods and her initial mission to win back her ex-boyfriend, Warner Huntington III (played by Mathew Davis). Although she starred and made an impact in films at the end of the 20th century, it was 2001's Legally Blondethat would truly put Reese Witherspoonon the map. Steve Carell's $300 Million Animated Hit With a 'Wolf of Wall Street' Star is a Streaming Smash 17 Years Later

Such is the nature of the ever-revolving door of animated movies; many once-beloved projects will soon find themselves lost to time. Liam Neeson’s $50 Million Action Flop He Called a “Mythic Western” Is a Sleeper Hit on Streaming
Image
Liam Neeson will always be known for his roles in classic action movies like The Grey, The A-Team, and Taken. However, 10 years ago, he starred in an action vehicle that has become a surprising hit on a new free streaming service. Neeson stars alongside Ed Harris (Top Gun: Maverick) and Vincent D’Onofrio (Daredevil: Born Again) in Run All Night, the crime thriller following Jimmy Colon (Neeson), a hitman who has one night to figure out where his loyalties lie. Run All Night is currently streaming for free on Tubi, and it’s one of the most popular movies on the platform, sitting at #10 at the time of writing. The film earned “rotten” scores of 59% from critics and 56% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, and it also grossed only $71 million at the box office against a $50 million budget, falling well short of its break-even point.

During a 2014 interview with IndieLondon to discuss the movie Non-Stop,...

Jason Blum Unpacks ‘M3GAN 2.0’ Flop After Treating Her “Like Superman”: “We Got Too Excited”
Image
As M3GAN 2.0 struggles to live up to its original prototype, Blumhouse is taking stock of their latest box office loss.

Joking he’s “been in pain all weekend long” after the sequel opened to $10.2 million ($17M worldwide), Jason Blum recently

“I thought, you know what? If Blumhouse is in a slump, I’d like to tell that story. I don’t want other people to tell that story, number one,” the Blumhouse founder and CEO prefaced on The Town podcast.

“And number two, one of the things that is so annoying about our business, is everyone says, ‘Oh, I learned so much from failure.’ But when they’re actually in a situation where things are not going well, they sweep it under the rug,” Blum told host Matthew Belloni. “They pretend it’s not happening.”

Noting that the sequel to the 2022 horror/thriller was on track for a $45 million opening 10 weeks ago,...

Soul Searching Begins at Blumhouse After Cold Streak Capped by ‘M3GAN 2.0’: “Not the Sequel Audiences Wanted”
Image
Jason Blum — who struck out on his own as an independent producer in the early 2000s after leaving Harvey Weinstein’s Miramax — was haunted during those years by the fear that he would never succeed on his own.

That’s when he received a DVD of a tiny horror film titled Paranormal Activity that was shot for less than $15,000 by unknown filmmaker Oren Peli. Blum and others believed the film could be a hit and tried to find it a distributor. One door after another was slammed shut, but Blum wouldn’t give up and eventually helped garner the interest of none other than Steven Spielberg’s DreamWorks. Spielberg himself watched the movie and was thoroughly spooked, according to Hollywood lore.

DreamWorks and its then-partner Paramount Pictures first released the film in more than a dozen college towns in late September 2009 before rolling it out nationwide as Halloween approached. Paranormal...

Why M3GAN 2.0 Failed At The Box Office, According To Blumhouse Head Jason Blum
Image
Blumhouse is the name in modern horror. Dating back to the unexpected box office success of "Paranormal Activity" more than 15 years ago, the house that Jason Blum built has generated tons of hits, several massive franchises, and more than $6 billion at the global box office. Unfortunately, the studio has been in a bit of a slump recently and, despite seeming like a slam dunk on paper, that didn't change with "M3GAN 2.0."

On opening weekend, director Gerard Johnstone's "M3GAN 2.0" opened to just $10 million domestically, which is roughly one-third of what the original film did on its way to $180 million worldwide against a $12 million budget. This one carries a $25 million budget and, though maybe not an outright flop, is going to be far from a hit. So, what the hell happened, exactly? Well, Blum has weighed in on the situation directly.

Appearing on an episode of the "Town" podcast,...

After ‘M3GAN 2.0,’ Blumhouse’s Box Office Slump Is at 18 Months and Counting
Image
For a decade and a half, Blumhouse has been the industry standard for consistent horror success at the box office, yielding high concept, low-budget hits every year and spawning multiple franchises in the process.

But for the past 18 months, the studio has suffered its first extended slump, and the sequel that was supposed to get things back on track, “M3GAN 2.0,” has instead suffered a poor $10.2 million domestic/$17.1 million global opening weekend.

“I look at this opening weekend, and it’s hard to think of a more disappointing or shocking launch this year,” said Boxoffice’s SVP of content strategy Daniel Loria. “There have been bigger bombs like ‘Snow White,’ but we knew that film had problems. Even if a lower opening than the first ‘M3GAN’ was expected, because tracking was at $18-20 million, I don’t think anyone was expecting a start that’s lower than ‘Night Swim.’”

'Carry-On' Star's 40% Rotten Tomatoes Horror Film Is a Global Hit on Streaming
Image
Director Jaume Collet-Serra has given us some pretty good horror films, like House of Wax, Orphan, and The Shallows. So, fans were very excited for his latest feature film, The Woman in the Yard, but upon its release, the movie got mixed reviews from fans and critics alike for its divisive (and confusing) ending. Nonetheless, the movie recently arrived on Peacock and instantly became a global hit.

Per FlixPatrol, The Woman in the Yard, which arrived on the streamer on June 27, has quickly climbed up to top spot both globally and in the US. The feature stands tall among films like Happy Gilmore, Despicable Me 3, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Nope, and more. Certainly, the audience is tuning in to see what made the movie so divisive. Given it has just arrived, the film is bound to get more eyeballs in the coming days and weeks.

‘M3GAN 2.0’ Bombs: 5 Reasons the Sequel Couldn’t Match the Original’s Box Office Success
Image
It may be time to put a pin in the M3GAN Cinematic Universe.

“M3GAN 2.0” flatlined at the box office, generating a paltry $10 million domestically and $17 million globally in its first weekend of release. While not a catastrophic result given the sequel’s $25 million budget, those ticket sales represent a fatal decline in interest from the original, 2023’s “M3GAN.” The first film ignited to $30 million domestically and $45 million globally and became a sleeper hit for Universal and Blumhouse, ultimately earning $180 million against a $12 million budget.

Lackluster reviews and an unfavorable release date didn’t help in terms of turnout for “M3GAN 2.0,” though moviegoers were surprisingly fonder of the sequel (which earned a “B+” grade on CinemaScore exit polls) compared to the first (which landed a “B” score). The trouble is that too few people were incentivized to buy a ticket in the first place. Gerard Johnstone returned to...

M3GAN 2.0's Very Bad Box Office Opening Raises Serious Concerns For The Future Of Blumhouse
Image
It was not a very good weekend for Universal Pictures and, more specifically, Blumhouse Productions. The house that Jason Blum built released the once-much-anticipated sequel "M3GAN 2.0" over the weekend and, even though the original was an unexpected breakout hit in 2023, its follow-up came in well below expectations. So much so that we must now question what future (if any) awaits this once-promising franchise and, more broadly, what is going on at Blumhouse.

Director Gerard Johnstone's "M3GAN 2.0" opened to just $10.2 million domestically. It certainly didn't help that Brad Pitt's "F1" opened to nearly $60 million and served up a major crowd-pleaser. International audiences weren't all that much help either, with the killer robot sequel pulling in $6.8 million overseas for a $17 million global start. When we consider that the first "M3GAN" opened to $30 million in North America alone, that number looks awfully rough.

The sequel picks up two years...

The Woman In the Yard Hints If Ramona [Spoilers] Herself at the End of the Movie
Image
Fans have been left scratching their heads over whether Ramona ends her own life during The Woman in the Yard's spine-chilling ending. The 2025 psychological horror romp from Jungle Cruise and Black Adam director Jaume Collet-Serra follows a young mother, played by Danielle Deadwyler, whose family becomes terrorized by a haunting veil-clad entity in the wake of her husband's death.

The movie tackles themes of personal trauma, mental illness, and the darkness one is capable of inflicting on those they love, leaving the fate of Deadwyler's widow hanging in the balance with its ambiguous conclusion. What exactly happens to Ramona after she rids her family of the titular "Woman in the Yard" (Okwui Okpokwasili) is left unclear, leaving some to wonder if where the movie ends is reality.

The Woman in the Yard is now streaming on Peacock as of June 27 and charted #1 in the U.S. during its first weekend on the streamer,...

Jordan Peele's 83% Rotten Tomatoes Dark Sci-Fi Horror Is a Streaming Success in America
Image
Jordan Peele has proven himself to be one of the finest minds in modern horror filmmaking. After the huge success of Get Out and his follow-up, Us, Peele's third and final directorial effort to date is perhaps quietly underrated. Described by the man himself as "the great American UFO story,"Nopeis much more than a mind-bending sci-fi horror; it is also an innovative, groundbreaking project, with Peele and renowned cinematographer Hoyte Van Hoytema creating the first horror film to be shot on IMAX cameras.

Starring the likes of Daniel Kaluuya, Keke Palmer, Keith David, and more, Nope was an instant hit with those who watched it, earning an impressive A- in Ross Bonaime's review for Collider, in which he said, "Peele reaffirms that there’s nothing like his films today, and it’s truly a wonder to behold Peele in his element with a film like Nope." Now, three years later,...

‘F1’ Speeds to $55.6 Million Opening; ‘M3GAN 2.0’ Crashes With $10.2 Million
Image
This weekend’s new releases at the box office saw very different results. While Warner Bros./Apple’s “F1” is off to a good start with a $55.6 million domestic/$144 million opening weekend, Universal/Blumhouse’s “M3GAN 2.0” is failing to boot with a $10 million domestic opening that is a third of the launch of its 2023 predecessor.

“F1” is the latest film produced by Apple Original Films to hit theaters with the help of a legacy studio, and by the end of next weekend it will become the Silicon Valley studio’s highest grossing theatrical release, passing the $221 million of Ridley Scott’s “Napoleon.” It also passes the $112 million of “World War Z” to become the biggest global opening ever for lead actor Brad Pitt.

“F1” carried a hefty price tag of at least $200 million before marketing costs shared by Apple and Warner Bros., the latter of which handled distribution. But the...

Brad Pitt, Javier Bardem, Kerry Condon, and Damson Idris in F1 (2025)
Box Office: ‘F1’ Leads the Pack With $25 Million Opening Day, ‘M3GAN 2.0’ Not So Fab in Fourth Place Debut
Brad Pitt, Javier Bardem, Kerry Condon, and Damson Idris in F1 (2025)
Apple Studios is scoring its biggest opening ever with the Brad Pitt racing thriller “F1,” headed for first in its box office debut. Meanwhile, Universal’s “M3GAN 2.0” isn’t catching the same spark in its opening, projecting a fourth place start behind holdovers “How to Train Your Dragon” and “Elio.”

On top, “F1” hit the track with $25 million across Friday and previews from 3,661 locations. The movie is playing in Imax auditoriums and most other premium-large formats too. Apple outsourced distribution here, partnering with Warner Bros. The team-up has made a splash.

Industry tracking was all over the place for “F1,” given the relative rarity of big-budget adult-skewing productions outside of established film franchises (though the Formula One Group’s branding and grand prix racing tournaments are still globally popular IP — the basis for most summer tentpoles). “F1” is now on pace to hit the upper end of its pre-weekend forecasts,...

2025’s Most Polarizing Horror Movie Finds Instant Success on Streaming & Tops the Charts After 1 Day
Image
The horror genre is as popular as ever, with many subgenres to choose from. However, not all the releases became immediate hits, and Blumhouse Productions' The Woman in the Yard is among them.

The psychological horror film premiered in late March this year and had an underwhelming reception. The Woman in the Yard had a great cast and a good premise, but the film didn't end up reaching its true potential. After an underwhelming box office run and negative reviews, The Woman in the Yard has become a hit on streaming, topping the charts on Peacock instantly, per FlixPatrol.

The Woman in the Yard premiered in theaters on Mar. 28 and it headed to VOD shortly after. The psychological horror was available to watch at home less than a month after its premiere, as it hit all digital platforms on Apr. 15. The horror was just added to Peacock's long list of hits,...

New to Streaming: Hard Boiled, Pavements, City on Fire, The Woman in the Yard & More

Each week we highlight the noteworthy titles that have recently hit streaming platforms in the United States. Check out this week’s selections below and past round-ups here.

The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie (Peter Browngardt)

Directed by Peter Browngardt, this is a charming affair. Modeled after sci-fi B-movies of the 1950s and starring Looney Tunes legends Porky Pig and Daffy Duck (both voiced by Eric Bauza), The Day the Earth Blew Up starts with a UFO landing. The spacecraft takes off on the roof of Porky and Daffy’s broken-down house (bequeathed to them by surrogate father Farmer Jim) just before crashing. It goes on to infect a local scientist (Fred Tatasciore) with a zombifying goo not long after. Soon enough, the goo is in the mix at the gum factory, where Porky and Daffy have taken jobs in a last-ditch effort to save their beloved home from being demolished.

The Bear Season 4: Every New And Returning Cameo
Image
Note: while we make sure not to give away major plot points here, the very nature of this article requires a spoiler warning for season four of "The Bear."

Ever since its second season, "The Bear" — the Emmy-winning comedy that's a co-production between FX and Hulu — has made a habit of bringing on huge, high-profile guest stars to pop up from time to time. Honestly, on many levels, it makes sense to bring in big actors to show up occasionally on "The Bear." Because the main focus is centered around the titular sandwich shop turned fine dining destination in Chicago — run by Carmen "Carmy" Berzatto (Jeremy Allen White), his "cousin" Richie Jermovitch (Ebon Moss-Bachrach), Carmy's right-hand woman Sydney Adamu (Ayo Edebiri), and a handful of their friends — it's easy enough to bring in a few Oscar winners to play fellow chefs (which Olivia Colman did in seasons 2 and 3) or a...

New Blumhouse Horror Movie Debuts With Underwhelming Rotten Tomatoes Score Compared To Original $181M Hit
Image
A new Blumhouse horror movie has debuted with an underwhelming Rotten Tomatoes score compared to the original hit. Founded by Jason Blum in 2000, Blumhouse movies have encompassed a wide range of genres over the past 25 years, though the studio is best known for its horror movies, including popular franchises such as Paranormal Activity, Insidious, and The Purge.

Despite its history of hits, Blumhouse's recent track record has been mixed. While movies like The Black Phone and M3GAN were commercial and commercial hits, more recent titles like Night Swim, Imaginary, and AfrAId all underperformed at the box office and scored 25% or lower on Rotten Tomatoes.

However, their Speak No Evil remake ended 2024 on a high note, earning solid 83% scores on Rotten Tomatoes. This year has been more mixed, with The Woman in the Yard receiving a lackluster 39% score, followed by Drop's strong 84% score. Now, Blumhouse has a new horror movie coming out,...

Blumhouse's $23M Psychological Horror Movie Finally Gets A Streaming Release This Month
Image
Blumhouse's $23 million psychological horror movie The Woman in the Yard has finally been given a streaming date, almost three months after its theatrical run. Released in March 2025, the movie, directed by Jaume Collet-Serra and written by Sam Stefanek, grossed $23 million during its theatrical run, against a budget of $12 million. Mixed reviews for The Woman in the Yard often noted it as an inventive yet frustrating movie that failed to capture its early promise. But now the movie could get a new lease of life through the medium of streaming.

Per Bloody Disgusting, The Woman in the Yard has found a new home on streaming platform Peacock, and will be available to watch on the streaming service from June 27. It will be the movie's streaming debut, after its theatrical release in the United States on March 28. There is no indication how long the movie might remain on the platform for, but...

Blumhouse 'The Woman in the Yard' Gets Peacock Streaming Release Date
Image
Blumhouse has some of the best horror productions in its catalog. From Get Out (2017) to M3GAN (2022), Paranormal Activity (2007), and more, an at-home horror movie night isn't complete without one of its films. However, like all production companies, not every horror film released is a hit. Sometimes, they're underrated and underseen, like Universal and Blumhouse's The Woman in the Yard. The film was released in the United States on March 28, 2025, and didn't receive the attention it should've during its time in theaters. However, Peacock users will be able to stream the horror movie right from the comfort of their own homes.

Starting June 27, The Woman in the Yard will exclusively stream on Peacock. With a runtime of 88 minutes, the production inches closer and closer to spooky moments as a mysterious woman in a yard scares a widow and her children. The cast includes Danielle Deadwyler as Ramona, Okwui Okpokwasili as the...
