Aubrey Plaza’s call sheet is about to get a lot longer, as she’s come on to produce and star in “The Heidi Fleiss Story.”

Plaza will portray the infamous “Hollywood madame” Heidi Fleiss, busted in early ‘90s for what was said to be the world’s largest high-end prostitution ring – which implicated Hollywood, politicians and other power figures.

The project marks the directorial debut of Leah Rachel (creator of Netflix’s “Chambers”}. The film hails from Pinky Promise, Jessamine Burgum and Kara Durrett’s production company.

Heatseeking actress and Gen Z icon Racel Sennott co-wrote the script with Rachel and Travis Jackson. Their take on the tabloid sensation follows Fleiss before trial, scrambling around Los Angeles trying to blackmail and leverage various connections to get the case dropped, with the help of an aspiring young writer named Jaclyn.

Production is set for Los Angeles and will take place this year.

Few actresses have demonstrated such versatility across genres as Jamie Lee Curtis, and her new legacy comedy only proves it. Review: I did something I hadn’t done in a long time at the early screening of The Naked Gun I attended earlier this week — I laughed myself silly in a movie theatre. It’s been years since I’ve seen a movie this funny theatrically, and boy did I miss the sound of a theatre full of people cackling so loud I occasionally missed a joke. I’ve missed comedy, and this was a really good one.

I’ll admit, I was wary of a Naked Gun reboot. I love the original movies (even the much-maligned third), but it’s been a while since anyone did a laugh-a-minute spoof like this. That said, director Akiva Schaffer turned out to be the right guy to tackle the formula.

Now entering its eighth edition, Filming Italy Sardegna is gearing up for what looks set to be its buzziest event to date. Founded by Tiziana Rocca, the film and television event kicks off June 19, 2025, at Forte Village in Cagliari, Sardinia.

The festival will present more than 70 films, many of which are Italian or world premieres. Notable titles in the line-up this year include Steven Soderbergh’s Presence, starring Lucy Liu and Chris Sullivan; Reflection in a Dead Diamond, the critically acclaimed spy thriller from Hélène Cattet and Bruno Forzani; and Karate Kid: Legends, directed by Jonathan Entwistle. The festival will open with the film Poveri Noi by Fabrizio Maria Cortese, starring Paolo Ruffini on Thursday.

From his continued work as Nick Fury in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to cinematic classics like "Pulp Fiction," audiences have turned up to see him do his thing on the big screen for decades. Unfortunately, his latest cinematic foray didn't arrive with the level of fanfare he's accustomed to.

Directed by Richard Gray, Roadside Attractions' "The Unholy Trinity" opened this past weekend at the box office, though one would be forgiven for not noticing. It grossed just $559,610 on 771 screens, making for a downright terrible $725 per-screen average. For context, "How to Train Your Dragon" brought in $83.7 million on 4,356 screens for a $19,214 per-screen average. While nobody was expecting this Western to do DreamWorks business, the end result leaves much to be desired for all involved.

“The Nanny” star and SAG-AFTRA president Fran Drescher, Jane Seymour, Luke Wilson and Joe Manganiello are the latest additions to the robust roster of Hollywood stars set to attend the upcoming eighth edition of the Filming Italy Sardegna festival, which will be held June 19-22 on the island of Sardinia.

Sarah Michelle Geller, Andy Serkis and the “The O.C.” star Mischa Barton are also expected to make the trek to the event, which combines film and TV with an emphasis on women in the biz and creating a bridge between the Italian and U.S. film industries.

From the files of the Police Squad, “The Naked Gun” is back on August 1 in theaters everywhere — the rebooted Liam Neeson version that is. Paramount Pictures has released the theatrical trailer for the continuation of the series from which the similarly-named Leslie Nielsen mined box office gold.

In the new film, Neeson plays Lt. Frank Drebin, Jr., son of Nielsen’s Frank Drebin character. Along for the sure-to-be-wacky ride are Pamela Anderson, Paul Walter Hauser, Cch Pounder, Kevin Durand, Cody Rhodes, Liza Koshy, Eddie Yu, and Danny Huston. Written by Dan Gregor, Doug Maud, and Akiva Schaffer, the movie was directed by Schaffer and produced by Seth MacFarlane and Erica Huggins.

Neeson is not known for playing comedy — although Nielsen wasn’t either prior to his straight-faced “Don’t Call Me Shirley” turn in 1980’s “Airplane!” Neeson told ComingSoon.com last year that he needed to prove his comedic chops.

Roadside Attractions has dropped a trailer for Kiss of the Spider Woman, Bill Condon’s adaptation of the Broadway musical that stars Jennifer Lopez, Diego Luna and Tonatiuh. The pic, which had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, was picked up soon after by Roadside, Lionsgate and Ld Entertainment and is set for a theatrical release October 10 in the awards-season corridor.

The stage musical, which was based on Manuel Puig’s 1976 novel that was turned into the 1985 movie starring Raul Julia and William Hurt, is set in military-run 1983 Argentina and centers on a pair of prison cellmates. Molina (Tonatiuh), a gay window dresser jailed for indecency, keeps up the spirts of political prisoner Valentin (Luna) by telling tales about his favorite musical actress, Ingrid Luna. The trailer shows off the stark difference between the prison and Luna’s Old Hollywood fantasy world as the two men begin to fall in love.

In a crowded field, Hulu is fast-becoming one of the must-have streaming services. 2025 has been a good year for Hulu subscribers, with Chloe Fineman's critically-acclaimed comedy "Summer of 69" dominating the streamer's charts in May and Best Picture winner "Anora" doing the same back in March. We've also seen Timothée Chalamet's Bob Dylan biopic "A Complete Unknown" rocking the Hulu rankings, while Pamela Anderson's overlooked 2024 drama "The Last Showgirl" finally found an audience on the platform in late May. Considering how often these charts get clogged with some of the worst examples of streaming-age sludge, that's a pretty good run for Disney's streamer, and now we've got yet another interesting and unique entry on the Hulu charts in the form of "Presence."

Gia Coppola will be honored by Italy’s Filming Italy Sardegna festival where “The Last Showgirl” director will receive the event’s Women Power Excellence Award.

In a statement Tiziana Rocca – the marketing guru and current Taormina Film Festival chief who also heads the event in the Italian island of Sardinia – praised Coppola as a fresh voice in international auteur cinema who has been able to depict “with a unique and deep look the contradictions of the human soul and the transformations of contemporary society.”
