Gendron Jensen draws bones. Detailed precise images of bones. Kicked out of a monastery in his 20's, Jensen spent 17 years as a semi-hermit on a rented farm in northern Minnesota honing his technique - before leaving for a new life and love in the mountains of New Mexico. For more than 40 years, the artist has transformed bones, relics and other 'mortal leavings' into meticulously rendered, often monumental graphite drawings that compel us to look beyond the ordinary to a deeper, more spiritual realm.

Beautiful.

A fantastic work about the nature of art and artistry and a wonderful portrait of Gendron Jensen. Excellent direction by Kristian Berg.

The filmmakers' love for their subject matter is infectious and the film allows the viewer to look inside Jensen in such a beautifully subtle and intimate way.

Greg Feinberg's organic and evocative editing is of particular note here. Like Jensen, himself, Feinberg has the rare ability to draw the viewer into the piece inexorably without revealing the precision and skill with which he did so.

Highly recommended.

The life and art of a very talented and unique artist.

As a person who is a Buddhist Priest and has been a painter who has painted their whole life, I found this film unique and fascinating. Gendron's passion for his art and the history of his life is intriguing to watch. He is a person that obviously has always been true to themselves. I have not seen such amazing drawings and prints of animal bones and skeletons before. Gendron is able to communicate with his drawings, the energy of the animals and show them to us in a way that makes us feel the animals life. He literally seems to be able to tell their story. Gendron is a unique person and I feel blessed to know him and his work. I hope that everyone who gets the chance to see Poustinia will do so.
