Coyote Point

"Coyote Point", a Gay porn feature that is still popular 8 years post-release (it's currently a top seller on leading website cduniverse, has Hall of Famer Joe Gage (aka Tim Kincaid, the name I knew him by in NYC in the '80s) delivering the XXX goods, but also including quite a bit of cryptic, almost artistic material. It's an enigmatic package for curious porn fans to ponder.

Ostensibly we have a group of muscular studs jerking off, giving head and applying condoms for anal sex for over two hours, but it is the purported story line and frequent non sequiturs in action that make it interesting. Coyote Point is a lover's lane near Caliente, Nevada and the date is 1953. Tucker (played stoically by JR Matthews) has returned home from the Korean War and has friends helping him plan his future. But what we get is fairly random homosexual hook-ups, even while the cast keeps talking about their lady friends (none of whom show up on screen in this all-male cast opus).

Opening scene of chatting with older Tyler Saint (who I had just watched in a Wicked Pictures video from Playgirl, doing a Solo jerk-off for director Skye Blue) is interrupted surrealistically by two nightmare turns: one by Tyler and another by another guy, each of them exposing himself and propositioning the other (while Tyler watches), only to wake up in fright. Gage/Kincaid never follows up on this dramatic "fear of being homosexual" gambit, just inserting the scenes in nearly Bunuelian storytelling fashion.

Things get a bit crazier, momentarily at least, when another older guy David Anthony (as "Mr. Farley") chats with a young lad Chase English who's raking up leaves in his yard (for a whopping fee of 50 cents!). In one of the weirdest come-ons I've witnessed in a long time, Farley announces to the kid "I gotta take a piss; You gotta go? Wanna join in?".

Sure enough they both whip out their dicks and urinate on the ground, Kincaid cranking up the sound in perhaps Pavlovian fashion. This non sequitur leads of course to them going inside for oral sex. The fans are also treated to Anthony's tricks with his cock, which springs around by itself (no hands!), sort of the Gay equivalent I suppose to a stripper who can use muscle control to move her breasts individually and spin pastie tassels.

Tyler has a friend Chet who works at a nearby Nevada Proving Ground of the Department of Energy, working on the H Bomb. This little tidbit of plot merely leads to Chet being humped by a studly co-worker, but Gage cleverly has the end credits rolling against a backdrop of a Mushroom Cloud from some '50s documentary.

The actual Coyote Point for lovers is downplayed, as our heroes go to an abandoned house nearby (after their double date femmes have left -we don't get to see the ladies of course) for an impromptu orgy. It includes rituals like blindfolding but is less fetishistic than expected.

Perhaps Gage's later work like "Coyote Point" and "Copperhead Canyon" have stood the test of time because he does include story and characters, unlike the 99% plus of porn (Gay and Straight) which is strictly interchangeable gonzo in content. The acting performances here are so wooden or robotic that I was reminded of that minor '60s B sci-fi film "Creation of the Humanoids", one of Andy Warhol's favorite movies due to its seeming dullness, a film I also greatly enjoyed when it was shown in syndication packages on Saturday afternoons or Thriller Theater TV back in the day. Perhaps Kincaid is a fan, too.
