First Viewing: Japanese Dub; no prior game play.
I don't know or care what the tween "critics" say about this anime, I'm glad I watched on pure recommendation and it was absolutely worth it. The end may have hit me a bit personally and I found myself unintentionally crying. (Dealing with severe depression, it put the hope/despair into a wonderful light and the writers should be praised for putting it in perspective.)
It's pretty obvious it will differ from the game, so that argument is just laughable. The point is, I never played the games until I watched the anime and I'm sure that was exactly the point. It did seem a bit rushed, which is why I played the games after. And it sure didn't sour me from doing so.
The Japanese cast is incredible! With many popular seiyuu for nostalgia and some newer ones to fully appreciate.
Overall, being new to the series this was the best place to start. The animation wasn't golden, though I found that's hardly a problem if the story holds up as great as this did.

Danganronpa could be a better show if it wasn't so rushed, paid more attention to the characters, and maybe went ahead with the game. I suggest watching it through the first murder case to decide if you want to continue or not. Regardless, go into this without high expectations or play the game as most players suggested.
I used to love this anime, until of course I played the games. The anime is way too fast pace and doesn't really give the viewer time to breathe. The game on the other hand is 20-60 hours and you can take your time and savor it. It's also missing the free time in which the characters could be developed.
For me, Danganronpa was a great anime. I loved the characters, the suspense, the plot, everything. I'll always show my gratitude to my friend for introducing it to me. After 13 episodes, however, the show was over. Almost as soon as I had started watching it, it was over. I never played the original video games (but I am aware of some fans' frustration), though I do share the same opinion as many of them: it was too rushed. I wish there were more episodes to learn more aboit the characters, and more episodes for the story to play out. Despite this, however, I still do love it (I gave it a solid 8, after all), and it'll still probably be one of my top 5 animes.
So, who would I recommend this to? I'd say Danganronpa is a good anime for people who love mysteries and can handle blood. I wouldn't suggest it for their first anime, however.

Honestly liked the sow a lot binged it in one day. There's a lot of suspense in the show a lot of tension. The characters aren't written very well, But the animation is beautiful and the plot add ons. It starts off as a pretty mediocre show, you can easily guess who committed most of the murders. The end wasn't very good either pretty cliche, like the good always wins kind and them not showing the outside world at the end made it seem like it was just a advertisement for their game. They could've done so much better compared to game but i would still recommend watching this show if you're into fast paced animes. Its pretty short so i dont regret watching it mediocre though.

- WissenswertesThe blood in the anime is pink due to the somewhat iconic status of the color choice in the game. This was originally to bypass Japanese censorship laws that would have heavily restricted the game's sales (equivalent to an ESRB rating of AO: "Adults Only," which prevents the game from being sold in stores) if the blood had been realistically red.
- Crazy CreditsSPOILER: The beginning of the credits sequence is made to look like an arcade game, with a high score of 11037. This score corresponds to the sequence of "numbers" that turned out to be Leon's name written in blood at a crime scene early in the series.
