Callus

Ferghus is a widower father. The axis of his life - his daughter. When Ionait reached the age of 18, her father accepts the invitation of the pub owner of village. Not inspired decision and, in some measure, he knows this , but hoping about the joy of girl , he risks.

And the scene of his death confirms about good decision because a particularity of Ionait hand , in relation with old pagan belives resurrection in the isolated comunity make the things dark at whole.

Easy to see it as parable like a story about intolerance or sacrifice. Beautiful acted - admirable portrait of father proposed by Michael Patric, fair crafted atmosphere , moving final.

Beautifully shot and wonderfully performed. Callus is a tale of suspicion, fear and hatred born from tradition and hard times. These forces clash against the bond of family in this tightly paced short film.

Written and Directed by Ciarán Hickey and produced by his longtime collaborator Finbar Croft. Callus explores similar themes to Hickey's previous work, where human spirits and bonds are played against seemingly insurmountable forces; be they supernatural, extraterrestrial or historical.

As in his previous outings, Ciarán pulls exceptional performances from a well selected cast. I highly recommend this, though be warned, you will find yourself rewatching several times, each time catching further detail and nuance.
