Za Faburu

I am pretty far into the first season (second cour) and everything the two earlier reviews mentioned still holds true. Honestly, i think its actually gotten better. This is an incredibly funny series with a dark current that has an impeccably acted cast of characters and an interesting plot that will keep you coming back very week.. or keep you binging. From the little drawings that the MC does (or just the way he says ANYTHING), to the bored antics of his "sister"... there are so many things that makes this series entertaining. In a way, the MC reminds me of Napoleon Dynamite, which is not a bad thing at all.

Fable is funny from the start, but it's my type of humor so it might not be for everyone. The humor is based on ironic situations and the unexpected events that play out around one of the deadliest and enigmatic assassins in the underworld, especially when he's trying to live and act as a normal human being during his sabbatical.

The writing sets up the characters will, from the MC who finds joy in the simplest of things like a low brow comedian with terribly written scripts, to his various "attempts" at normal life. The group that agreed to host him and his administrator are set up really well too, as some try to protect the group from what they perceive as his potential bad influences on the org, to other weebs who fanboy at his skills and accomplishments. Fable inspires the type of trouble you don't want to get mixed in yourself, but which you wouldn't mind posting to IG from across the street.

The concept of a hitman, groomed to be ruthless and cunning his entire life, being ordered to live a mundane normal life, sounded very interesting even before I started watching the show. I must say that the concept has been executed very well. The Fable has a good balance of comedy, action, and intensive scenes, and throughout the season it felt like the perfect mix of slice-of-life and action I needed. The show served as a good break from the extreme "mundane life" and "end of the world" stories we usually get these days.

Animation-wise too, the show holds really well. It manages to deliver the expressions of the characters really well, which was a necessity for portraying especially the protagonist faithfully.

The moment the girl started speaking I wondered if there were any woman at all involved in the project and by the time I finished the episode I actually wondered if there were any woman in the creator's life at all, besides their mother.

After about 10 minutes of the same first episode I paused to google "why are female characters so badly written anime?".

I did finish the episode but couldn't keep watching the second.

The female character whose name I can't remember came off as childish and immature. She was raised by a crime boss and she turns out to be such a wimp, I'm sorry but it's just ridiculous.

With all the whimpering and moaning, the "don't do that", "it's dangerous", "behave". It felt like I was watching something from 90's and there was just so many eye rolling.

Then there's the protagonist Fable and he's just so unsympathetic, he just came across as annoying.

Not for me at all.

The voicecast in this show is incredible.

Each voice actress and voice actor is top notch and fills her or his character with life.

It's a story about a hitman who has to take a break, go undercover in Osaka with his partner who plays his sister. He mustn't kill anyone, but socialize, live one year as a normal guy and find a job.

Screwball comedy setting. Great.

The scenes are very well written and natural, the characters are so vivid, you forget that it's an animé show.

Recommendation: Watch it in japanese with subtitles. Excellent.

Funny, dark, refreshing, violent, additive and highly entertaining show.

I love it and await each new episode.
