I grew up with a lot of great supernatural shows like Goosebumps, Eerie Indiana, Bone Chillers, Round the Twist, Don't Be Afraid of the Dark, and So Weird.
Unfortunately, it seems like there aren't many good shows for kids today that deal with the supernatural. Most of them are really cheesy shows like My Babysitter's a Vampire, Wizards of Waverly, or this new Nickelodeon show Every Witch Way that are more about high school drama than scares and have really bad writing and acting. Then there were the really campy, groan-inducing shows like "The Troop" that played mostly for laughs.
So imagine my surprise when I ran across an episode of Spooksville and actually enjoyed it. The actors in this show are downright believable. They don't ham it up and overact the way all the Disney Channel and Nickelodeon stars do. The characters for the most part are normal kids dealing with supernatural forces, and they dress and look like real kids. They don't dress like rockers or pop stars. You won't see any neon skinny jeans or designer shoes on this show.
And better yet, the writing is above average. This show doesn't insult your intelligence with thin plots and cheap laughs. There is real character development, a good continuous storyline, and some solid standalone episodes.
I can only hope that we see more shows like Spooksville in the future instead of the schlock that is passing for teen entertainment on Disney and Nickelodeon these days.

Spooksville has the same eerie tone as Goosebumps. It reminds me of a classic 90's teen horror show with the creepy music and dark setting. The show doesn't phone it in like many other "spooky" shows. I can't stand it when they try to make it too zany or comical. It's hard to take it serious when there are too many slapstick comedy moments. The cast of kids also make the show feel realistic and put a lot of effort into their roles. Kudos to them.
I watched the majority of the show during the month of October. It was a perfect Halloween inspired show to get me in the mood for all things scary. I cannot recommend it enough, especially around this time of year. If your no longer a teenager like myself then you'll probably have a feeling of nostalgia when watching Spooksville. It's a really good show that I hope gets renewed.

Spooksville is a great TV show. Like the series Goosebumps, Spooksville had us on the edge of our seats. This is the perfect show for the whole family to watch together. We kept saying out loud, "what's going to happen next?" My kids had such a fun time guessing what was going to happen next - like they were writing the show themselves! The stories are full of suspense and tension. Each episode is so well written and directed. The cast works together as a true ensemble. Great acting from each member of the cast. Perfect locations that match with the story. My only problem is wondering if there will be more episodes to come in the future!
One thing that is really common to hear on the internet, is people and especially people from my millennial generation who talk about how kids shows aren't as good as they used to be. Like kids shows were the best in the '90s. Even kids from today seem to prefer the shows we grew up with than the shows that they are growing up with. I agree, that most kids shows are not as good as they were in the '90s. However, as an adult I really like this TV show and think it's a great show for kids nowadays. In comparison to other TV shows: Are You Afraid Of The Dark, Goosebumps, and Haunting Hour. I prefer this TV show over those TV shows. Here are some reasons. For one, I never watched Are You Afraid Of The Dark as a kid. I've seen episodes as an adult. I did watch Goosebumps, but not that often as a kid. I have been watching Haunting Hour, but I've noticed some of the Haunting Hour episodes aren't that entertaining. One thing I like better about Spooksville than these other TV shows, are how it has 3 main characters on each episode: Adam, Sally, and Watch. Whereas, Goosebumps and Haunting Hour had different characters in each episode that were often times ordinary people. Characters we didn't get to know that well outside of that episode, they aren't always that good at acting, and we always wonder what would happen next as about each episode ends with some suspense. I think it's better to get to know the characters rather than have different characters in each episode. Also, there's more action in Spooksville than there is in Haunting Hour or Goosebumps. As most of the episodes in the later two seem to deal with kids experiencing some spooky activity that they aren't too sure what to think. But, usually we don't see the characters facing off with a bad guy with their own strength like they do in Spooksville. I'd also say there's more of a plot in Spooksville, and it isn't as dark as either of those two R.L. Stine shows. So, yeah I can't wait until Season 2 when it starts. I think this show is the perfect kids show for today and definitely needs more viewers. I'm sure if people shared this show to lots of kids that don't know about it, a lot of the kids that watch it would enjoy it and this show would have a huge increase in viewers. Thanks for reading, if you read all this.
Best kids show since so weird and house of anubis. I have written a lot plot lines of the books on Spooksville and the show. Plus I added stuff.

- WissenswertesBased on the young adult book series by Christopher Pike, where each books is covered in roughly two episodes, with the single one being original creations for TV. Most of the plot had to be altered due to budget constrains, as in the books the protagonists travel to exotic locations, outer space or other dimensions.
