A lesson not to slack in history class is learned the hard way for four high school students: Jayden (Rachel O'Day), Kayden (Madeline Schlitcher), Hayden (Jaden Wesely Brown), and Payden (Angela Kuzel). Bored in their Latin American history class, learning about the Liberator of Brazil, Prince Dom Pedro. The students mock their teacher's words of urgency, suggesting that this test on Prince Dom Pedro may be the most important of their young lives. Brushing it off and mocking the great historical first leader of Brazil, they suddenly start to hear threatening voices - oddly, in Portuguese?
Stange. Artistic. Weird. Swanson and Fishel held my interest. I liked it.

I was privileged to see an advanced copy of this film. It sort of caught me off guard. I was expecting something different, and it certainly was different. It's a spoof of all those terrible teen horror flicks. Come on, you know the ones! Hollywood seems to be cranking them out in spades these days. But this one has a good time making fun of those horrific (sorry) wastes of time!
In this film, a class full of disinterested kids are lectured about the exploits of Prince Dom Pedro, who liberated Brazil. They're too busy to pay attention since they're all glued to their iPhone screens. Well kids, you should have shown more interest.
A quartet of kids start hearing a voice speaking Portuguese to them. If only they understood the language. One by one, they start getting picked off by the spirit of the good (bad?) Prince.
It all makes for an amusing time. It's pretty predictable, but in a way, that's the whole point. Isn't it?

After not taking the class seriously, a group of high school students learning about the history of Brazil's independence are soon inundated with a series of weird threats and sayings related to a figure in the class they blew off, turning into a rampage when the spirit begins stalking them.
There wasn't much to be had with this one at all. Among the only positive points to this one is the genuinely likable setup that provides this one with everything that should've been included in a solid genre outing. The idea of the moronic students who are so wrapped up and in their own space regarding who the figure is that they're learning about, which soon sets the group out on their being the targets of a supernatural figure trying to kill them off for their insolence, making for a generally fun time here. The type of rampage that occurs, with the absurd scenarios the group find themselves in and how outlandish everything becomes when they try to figure out what's going on and end up dying in plain goofy manners, helps to sell the idea of the curse coming after them rather nicely which meshes nicely with the absurdist comedy uttered elsewhere in the film from the characters, all of which give this a nice bit to like. Beyond that, though, there's very little about this one that remains interesting. The problem here is that the group is some of the most idiotic blend of characters that we're supposed to be following, which is by design due to the type of film this is, but it's still immensely difficult to get behind this group. The whole point of this is to go for the laugh, but yet there's little funny about how goofy they're portrayed merely for the sake of a joke that wears out its welcome rather quickly, where the group's stupidity and callousness is what brings them into contact with the curse. It can make the film feel long and redundant, waiting around for the next interaction to come about since there isn't a whole lot to be involved here, as there are only a few instances where that's so many wacky scenarios involved in this that take up the time until the next attack. These are what manage to hold it back the most.
Rated Unrated/R: Graphic Language and Violence.
