An interesting dive into the comedy creature feature genre. Mating Season is a movie that effortlessly mutates into something like "The fly " meets "Airplane " . I really enjoyed it , possibly more so as the movie went on. Apparently even lower budget B movies can deliver hilariously driven character roles, subtle plot twists and turns that ultimately deliver a wonderful feeling of satisfaction for the viewer. It's a courageous little gem that even in its unashamedly cheesy moments wins the audience over without offering any apologies. Well worth watching for those of us who still enjoy a good old , Creature romping stomping comedy that we all willingly buy into. Bravo for this comedic breath of fresh air !!
My wife and I attended a sneak peek of Crocodylus: Mating Season on a whim here in Florida. Expectations were low; that this will be a normal low-budget flick. I was surprised! Surprised to be entertained with crisp humor, quality acting, and a likable story that I couldn't help but connect with. And it wasn't just me. The packed theatre laughed and cheered right along with me. This has to be one of the best "lower-budget" movies I've ever seen. And the cat. Sorry human actors, but the cat was my favorite character. In the end, the director, actors and crew delivered. I am not even a fan of this genre but am looking forward to the next installment in the series.
After a very stressful day at work there's nothing like getting home, kicking off your shoes, and opening a bottle of wine. Last night was no different than most nights, only this time I came across Crocodylus Mating Season, a newly released movie. After reading the reviews I gave it a shot. Boy what a refreshing change. No CGI, just good cast of actors who obviously gelled on set. There's NOTHING worse than cheap CGI that cheesy horror films use because of a lack of organic talent. Yes, this film is low budget but it works. I needed this, it seriously made me laugh from it's silliness. Now to watch the original, Crocodylus.
I love this film - I love it so much, that I wrote it. Then I loved that script so much that I directed it too. Then I figured, why stop there? I should probably edit it while I'm at it. And then, well, now we have this movie.

So, is this film any good?
No.
It's freaking great.
It's got killer cats, auto insurance phone calls, people losing limbs, kissing, and a pirate. It also features some rocking performances. You better learn how to properly pronounce "Fusca" because lead actor, Chuck Fusca, kills with his comedic timing playing Harry Bates. Rachel Comeau (hard to sight-read last names are a requirement to be in one of my films apparently) will seduce you as Allie Glades, the damsel in distress. Andy Gion (pronounced "G"+ on; see what I'm saying about these names) plays a tough guy, police chief to perfection (He's actually very sweet in real life). Jim Serrano delights the audience and steals every scene he's in as the dedicated and oddly-hungry scientist Dr. Cash Williams.
The rest of the supporting cast is loaded with talent too! We've got Johnny Alonso, Dana Anderwald, Sheryll Carbonell, and up and comers like Ana Gorayeb, Carson Holley, and more!
Did we talk about the soundtrack yet? Anthony Espina wrote the perfectly off kilter soundtrack that made everything work so much better.
I had a lot of fun making this film and I'm very proud of everyone that helped us make the film what it is. I hope you enjoyed it too!

Crocodylus Mating Season was an entertaining and quite surprising roller coaster. Watching this, I expected a straightforward, monstrous movie, yet it is far from that c. Right from the opening credits, the audience is given a clue that the movie is intentionally cult and belongs to the B movie category. There is a fault with the plot that could be seen as ridiculous because it is a dumb movie, but in the best way possible. Despite the characterization of all the protagonists as weird, they seem simple but are engaging enough to hold my attention. The main hero, Harry Bates, is an amateur, clumsy private eye, always making cheesy jokes, which made me chuckle in many scenes, even when the most terrible things happen. The dialogue is intentionally cheesy, and for the most part, the actors seem to know that they are in a cheesy B film, which makes the movie more enjoyable. One of the fun aspects of the film is the apparent minimalism of the special effects. The low-budget CGI and practical effects are hilariously bad, but it is part of the charm. One would tell by the filmmakers' eagerness to make the movie cheesy and horrible in a horror genre that it fits perfectly. That Crocodylus creature on its own is unadulterated silliness, but watching it perform is worth the watch.
However, there may be specific problems with pacing or the occasional dodge in acting, but this is only suitable for a comedy. It knows it is not a cinematic masterpiece, has fun breaking the fourth wall, and offers just what you would expect from a cheesy B-movie horror flick that is perfect for late-night showings. If you love B-movies with humor, ridiculous situations, and a bit of gore, Crocodylus: Mating Season, despite its stereotyping and crude humor style, is worth a watch.
