Filming is underway on My Secret Santa, a brand-new live-action romantic comedy that will likely be part of Netflix’s 2025 Christmas lineup. To celebrate, Netflix has announced four new cast members.

The news of the four new cast members comes just a week after we reported that Virgin River star Alexandra Breckenridge had joined the cast and would be filming ahead of Virgin River season 7, starting its shoot in Canada a few weeks later and filming officially kicked off on the movie in Kamloops, BC, on February 3rd, with a scheduled wrap for February 27th. Mike Rohl, who worked with Netflix on The Princess Switch and its two sequels, directs. Howard Braunstein Films is producing with the script put together by Carley Smale and Ron Oliver.

U.S. actor Elena Kampouris (“My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3”) is set to star in the Sicily-set “Here Now,” a romantic thriller marking Italian director Gabriele Muccino’s return to English-language filmmaking. Muccino’s Hollywood credits include the Will Smith-starrer “The Pursuit of Happyness.”

Russell Crowe will receive the Crystal Globe for outstanding artistic contribution to world cinema at the 57th Karlovy Vary Film Festival (June 30-July 8). The Oscar winning actor will also deploy his musical talent with his band Indoor Garden Party, which will perform at the festival’s opening night concert. The festival also revealed Friday that Johnny Depp would appear in its trailer, which will have its premiere at the opening ceremony.

Crowe, who was born in New Zealand but moved to Australia at an early age, began his acting career at the age of 6, working in TV and theater. In 1989, he started working in Australian films, with “The Crossing”, “Proof”, and “Romper Stomper”. Russell Crowe is set to receive the coveted Crystal Globe for Outstanding Artistic Contribution to World Cinema at this year’s Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. To celebrate his achievements, the festival will be presenting a 20-year anniversary screening of Peter Weir’s Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, which earned Crowe a Golden Globe nomination.

Crowe is also set to perform with his band Indoor Garden Party at the festival’s opening night concert on June 30.

Paradigm has hired Babacar Diene, a veteran film financing, sales and production executive formerly of Voltage Pictures, to join the agency as a content agent, the agency announced Thursday.

Paradigm also promoted four employees to agents across its departments, including Sam Benfey, Josh Cohen, Natalie Handelsman and Wilson Rubinoff.

Diene’s role as a content agent will see him handling film and series content packaging, financing, and sales. Benfey has been promoted to a digital and brand partnerships agent, Cohen and Handelsman are each talent agents, and Rubinoff is a literary agent.

Exclusive: Oscar nominee Quvenzhané Wallis is set as a lead alongside O’Shea Jackson Jr. in Swagger, Apple’s new basketball-themed drama series. The series is from NBA superstar Kevin Durant and his Thirty Five Ventures, Shots Fired co-creator Reggie Rock Bythewood, Imagine Television Studios and CBS TV Studios.

Written and directed by Bythewood, who also serves as showrunner, Swagger is inspired by Durant’s youth basketball experiences. The works of director Gabriele Muccino aren’t for everyone. I can’t speak on his Italian films, but the American ones are unavoidably cloying and sentimental in a way that must be accepted or ignored to find resonance. Despite being the one showered with praise, The Pursuit of Happyness didn’t quite do enough for me. I appreciated the story and performances, but felt the artifice. For Seven Pounds, however, I didn’t care. The entire film proved one giant manipulative contrivance yet it unexpectedly hit me with depth and power just the same. So when the opportunity to watch his latest Fathers and Daughters arrived, I was optimistic. It looked ripe for that same emotional catharsis and as such possessed the potential to also crash and burn magnificently.

It’s reality lies somewhere in the middle. Brad Desch‘s script is everything that detractors say it is, but...

The 4th of July holiday weekend is typically a big one at the box office, with fans flocking to their local theaters to beat the heat. This year, three new movies opened, The Bfg, The Legend of Tarzan and The Purge: Election Year, going up against the winner for the past two weekends, Finding Dory. Unfortunately, none of these newcomers could defeat the champ, with Finding Dory winning for a third week in a row with $41.9 million.

Box Office Mojo reports that Finding Dory dropped just 42.6% this weekend. The Legend of Tarzan opened in 3,561 theaters, followed by The Bfg in 3,357 theaters and The Purge: Election Year in 2,796 theaters. The Bfg is the only new release to have a positive Rotten Tomatoes rating, with a solid 71% Fresh, with The Legend of Tarzan scoring just 35% and The Purge: Election Year getting 54%. The Legend of Tarzan debuted in second place with $38.1 million, followed...

Pixar's Finding Dory helped resuscitate a sagging summer box office earlier this month, with a record-breaking $135 million, the highest debut ever for an animated movie. The sequel easily took down Independence Day: Resurgence, The Shallows and Free State of Jones in its second weekend, but it faces some much stiffer competition heading into the extended holiday. Disney's The Bfg, Warner Bros.' The Legend of Tarzan and Universal's The Purge: Election Year all debut this Friday. While it will likely be fairly close, Finding Dory is expected to hold onto its crown for a third weekend in a row, with $38.7 million.

If this prediction holds true, it will represent a 53.5% drop for Finding Dory in its third weekend, and push it past $300 million domestic. While $38.7 million isn't a terribly high figure for a winning summer weekend, none of the three new releases have been tracking very high with box office pundits.

Considering the amount of films focusing on that special bond between one’s parents, some filmmakers must have complicated relationships. One of two upcoming films explicitly about the subject, the latest from Gabriele Muccino (The Pursuit of Happyness, Seven Pounds), Fathers and Daughters, looks at the relationship between a Pulitzer Prize winning author as he tries to balance being a widower, mental health issues and raising his 5-year-old daughter. Flash-forward to present day and his daughter is still struggling with her childhood. But her love interest, Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad) may be able to help her with that. Muccino is aiming for waterworks again with stars Russell Crowe and Amanda Seyfried playingthe father-daughter duo. Not to be confused, on the other side of the spectrum of relationships is Mothers and Daughters.

The story follows the relationship between a widower novelist and his daughter and jumps between the 1980s when she was a kid, and the present day when she's an adult battling her own personal demons.

Bruce Greenwood, Diane Kruger, Jane Fonda, Janet McTeer, Octavia Spencer, Quvenzhane Wallis, and Kylie Rogers also star in the film which opens in Europe in October. No U.S. release date has been set yet.

John Fremes has joined Voltage Pictures as president of international sales and distribution and will report to president and COO Jonathan Deckter.

Fremes arrives from Nu Image / Millennium and replaces Elisabeth Costa de Beauregard, who is transitioning into a production deal with Nicolas Chartier’s company and to that effect will be on set in Ireland for John Moore’s I.T. starring Pierce Brosnan.

For the last three years Fremes served as president of international sales and distribution at Nu Image / Millennium, where he sold titles like Expendables 2 and 3, Olympus Has Fallen, Homefront and the upcoming London Has Fallen and Mechanic: Resurrection.

Voltage has also brought in Scott Bedno from Spotlight Pictures as vice-president of international sales. Bedno, along with Voltage’s international sales coordinator Mike Quinn, will report directly to Fremes.

The moves underscores Chartier’s plans to ramp at the company up after he brought in Deckter as partner last month.

In a significant switch that underscores Voltage’s ambitions, the executive has left as president of Im Global to become president / COO at Nicolas Chartier’s company.

Deckter, who served five years at Im Global, arrives as a partner of Chartier and will oversee day-to-day business operations at Voltage Pictures.

Chartier, who will continue as CEO, is keen to expand Voltage’s film and TV productions, announce new hires by the summer and complete several international mergers and acquisitions with strategic partners.

Chartier will oversee all production-related activities alongside production president Zev Foreman and Voltage Films partner Craig Flores.

Voltage has produced and financed such films as Killer Joe and The Company You Keep and earned three Oscars for Dallas Buyers Club in 2014 and six for The Hurt Locker in 2010.

Jane Fonda has signed on to star in the upcoming romantic drama Fathers and Daughters.

Russell Crowe is already attached to the film, which will also star Aaron Paul, Amanda Seyfried, Octavia Spencer, Diane Kruger and Quvenzhané Wallis.

Crowe will play a struggling novelist dealing with depression while raising his 5-year-old daughter, while Seyfried will play the older version of his daughter 20 years later.

According to Deadline, Fonda has signed on to play Crowe's longtime friend and literary agent.

Fonda has several projects in the pipeline, including a comedy series with fellow veteran actress Lily Tomlin.

She recently received an AFI Lifetime Achievement Award for her decades-spanning movie career.

The film was written by newcomer Brad Desch and is described as “a love story between a troubled father and his daughter.” Crowe plays Jake Davis, a famous writer and widower who struggles with mental illness while trying to raise his 5 year-old daughter Katie. The story spans 25 years, from the 1980′s to the present day, and has Seyfried playing Katie as an adult, who eventually has demons of her own that were caused by her troubled upbringing.

Los Angeles, Mar 1: Actress Janet McTeer will feature in Gabriele Muccino directed drama "Fathers and Daughters".

The 52-year-old will feature along side actors Russell Crowe and Amanda Seyfried, reports femalefirst.co.uk.

"Fathers and Daughters" centres on a woman dealing with a crumbling relationship in the present and looking back on the relationship she had with her father, a famous novelist, 25 years earlier.
