I saw "Los lunes a las 9" and I saw it on Monday at 9.
This documentary tells the story behind one of the most iconic television programs of the 90s in Puerto Rico, "No te duermas."
The documentary combines interviews, historical footage, and dramatizations of key moments in the history of this show that lasted 19 years.
I am from the generation of "No te duermas", and I had the good fortune to see it since it premiered on Channel 7 in 1989, so I enjoyed this trip down nostalgia lane, especially when you compare it to the shyness of today's television.
That was the era of "Yes, we can!", in which a new generation asked to break the mold and inject some mischief into television.
In the film we see the struggles they had to put up to keep the show on the air, facing boycotts, religious protests and arch villain Milton Micón of Morality In Media, who was the best publicist the show had since the controversy forced the public to watch the show.
To Antonio Sanchez, Gabriel Suau, Kacho Santiago and the entire production team of "Los lunes a las 9" thank you for this very special documentary.
I hope we can once again have a daring and irreverent television like "No te duermas."
An image from the movie represents the key to the success of "No te Duermas" and the reason why many artistic projects fail.
The success of "No Te Duermas" was due to the teamwork with Antonio Sánchez, El Gangster, showing his face, with Gabriel Suau supporting his talent, and the star behind the cameras, Kacho Santiago who contributed with his creativity to keep the spark of the program alive.
We never saw Kacho on camera during the 19 years of the program, and he never felt jealousy or envy that El Gangster took all the credit for his work, because everyone was clear that the important thing was that the program was successful.
On the other hand, in Puerto Rico there are thousands of artistic projects with great potential that fail because everyone wants to be the protagonist and no one wants to be backstage.
Hopefully after watching "Los lunes a las 9" we will learn from history and begin to produce successfully.
