Gaslight

Watching this serie is really mixed feelings, because it was like playing my relationship in repeat with my ex. It's such similarities it's scary. Like literally on point. The mix between warm and cold, the lack of empathy, the spoiling with gifts and then how fast the mode can swing.

The feeling like it's you two against the world and then the feeling to just wanted to escape, the lonely feeling and guilt, shame. Even the relationship with the mother... my ex mother was a nightmare.. and the genetic and growing up like that doesn't end well. So well done and good acting. The normalization process is something that is hard I think to understand from a above perspective.

Needless to say this is a lower budget series with the best intentions to capture troubled youths in modern dysfunctional sexual relationships.

While the attempt might be sincere, the end results is weak and lacks much credibility. The overall feeling is slightly better than a student film.

The weakest aspect is its script or lack of it. Instead of creating a strong narrative, it relies completely on its dialogue. Turn off the sound and you understand nothing.

The opening promised a great deal which the series failed to live up to.

It takes far more conflict to fill its screen time and instead becomes the greatest sun of filmmaking, boring it's audience.

Why can't anybody tell these young writers that babble isn't storytelling and an excuse to fill time.

Please write better screenplays for Swedish tv series.

Nora, a young woman, has a good life. She goes out and parties with her friends. They have a nice time during those occasions. Nora also has a close contact with her mother.

During one day, Nora meets Simon. He's young, handsome and nice. He works as a caregiver at a nursing home. Nora soon begins to develop feelings for Simon.

But it doesn't take long before Simon's darkness begins to emerge. Is there a way out for Nora?

"Gaslight" is, if you ask me, a strong drama with really great music choices. I liked the acting and how the story was constructed.

So what did I miss in this TV series? Hm ... a teeny tiny bit more physical violence, more clarity and more info about Simon's background. I would have liked to know more about the fathers of Nora and Simon.

But all in all, I appreciated this TV series. I think that it has good quality and yes, I can recommend it.

I was blown away by acting which is superb. Movie is about a subject that is rarely dealed with in movies or in tv - at least not in such a profound and detailed way. You really get sucked in to the psychological nightmare and live all the emotions with Nora. Story about falling in love and getting trapped in an abusive relationship was credible. You can understand why someone ends up in a situation like that and can't leave. I could really empathize with the Nora and how she was trapped while being manipulated. Really immersive experience. I don't think I have anything negative to say about this series.

It is hard to say what I think about this series because it has two sides. One is the relationship with Nora and Simon. And the other one is all the rest of characters and how they set the tone and drive the story.

The first part is really good (Nora and Simons relationship), it is scary to see how Nora falls deeper in to some kind of dependence and Simons mental instability hurting her and himself all the time. It is creepy and kind of twisted but for anyone knowing how this kind of relationships can be it is not unreal. In fact it is unusual since you get kind of closer to Nora and Simons relationship then what you usually do in this kind of series.

But then you have the weak point and it is all the rest. Especially Noras friends and Simons ex but also Simons mother. They all act strange. Simons mother is good for the story when you here her in the phone. You get an understanding of how tough Simons upbringing may have been. But they go to far with her when Nora and Simon meet her at Simons place.

Simons ex act in a way that is hard to understand. If she truly knows how crazy Simon could be she would just want to stay away from him and his life.

And the worst is Noras friends. They are an annoying bunch of people that do extremely absurd things all the time.

So all in all. I would recommend this series but know that it has huge flaws. Just take your focus on the relationship between Nora and SImon and try to stomach that the rest is just not that good. If you do that you may appreciate the series for what it is.
