Although the series is very different from the books, I really liked it, but at the same time, for five or six episodes, I didn't understand what was happening. I think the series is made for people who have read the books and yet this is in a way a mistake because at the same time, readers usually want a faithful adaptation but this adaptation borrows very little from the books. However, I recommend reading the first two books if you haven't because the series borrows from Lauren Kate's series only the names of the characters, the location, and a very abstract idea of the book.
What annoys me, however, is that the series does not have a specific ending, everything happens very suddenly and the ending, and although I understood it because I read the second book, it seems to me that it represents a climax rather than a denouement. Although the characters don't look like I imagined them, except for Lucinda, I think the actors played very well, especially Jessica. Initially, I didn't trust the actress who played Penn, but watching over the eight episodes I think she was able to portray her very well. The atmosphere itself is very mysterious and although sometimes it seemed to me that nothing was happening at the same time there was a lot of suspense and I wanted to see what was happening as quickly as possible so I watched eight episodes in a row. All this screenplay feels more like a kind of beginning or like a kind of introduction to what should have followed, that's why I can't give it more than a 7, but if I separated the actual book from the movie, I would probably give it less. However, I understood the series precisely because I read the book, in a way it is a screen adaptation inspired by the book, but at the same time, it is not. I wish there was a new season because the CGI at least was a lot cooler than what we saw in the 2016 movie. I also loved the cinematography.

As a big fan of the books for many years, after the movie I had no hope and I was very sceptical about the show... Even with all of the changes, I'm very happy with the actors. The movie had some potential but the actors from this show had real chemistry, especially Jessica and Gijs... and they kept me want to watch it until the end. Some changes are good and others don't make much sense... But I really hope we get another season so we can finally see Daniel and Lucinda's other lives. I'm not happy that they didn't stay very true to the books but after everything with the movie, I'll take what I can get and enjoy seeing the characters brought to life.
I think we can all agree the movie version from 2016 was laughably bad (I mean I actually laughed when the movie ended), so I was pleasantly surprised by how this TV series turned out. I think the show writers took the concept from the books as an outline and created something better. The show had intrigue and a surprise season finale that I didn't see coming. The scenery and videography of the show was beautiful. There were also new-to-the-scene actors that gave great performances (and a great performance from The Last Kingdom alum Timothy Innes). The characters were dynamic and I was genuinely interested in their back stories. If there's a next season, I'd like to see more origin stories for the supporting characters. I think this freshman season was a good start to a potentially successful run.
I absolutely loved this series. It had me hooked from start to end. I haven't read the books so I think it was a lot easier for me to not make the comparisons in the way others have.
The series was slightly difficult to follow the story line over the first few episodes but that's what kept me so intrigued. Once the storyline begins to unfold it's hard not to watch episode after episode.
It's worth the wait and patience waiting for the storyline.
The last episode has left me on the edge of my seat in anticipation for a second season which I am hoping will be released as I have so many questions.

Was able to watch the series early; gotta say I was surprised with how much I liked it in the end. Had to keep an open mind going in with how things are obviously different from the books, and I felt it was the right call with how some of them played out with the vision the show is intending. There's still the core material that is always the underlying plot/theme it is just now shaped (rather well I might add) more as a thrilling, dark mystery. Great performances as well, regardless of how I originally pictured because of the books. Will say, if you've come looking for a word-for-word re-telling of the book, then sorry, as it's more like the story is severely inspired by the books with some source material hinted at every now and again (still prominent overall)! THE CHEMISTRY THOUGH!! I think it's going to be underrated, as it's still a rather hidden gem of a good modern dark fantasy/mystery/romance.
