As the youngest member in parliament and sole heir to his familyÂ’s 7,000-acre English estate, Lord Edward MontaguÂ’s life was rich and privileged. However in 1954, Edward, then aged twenty-five, became England's most infamous aristocrat when he was arrested for homosexual offenses and eventually sentenced to a year in prison. Despite the odds against him, Montagu persevered to become a prominent national figure by turning his estate into one of England's greatest tourist attractions, and leading the way into a new era of the British aristocracy. This film features never-before-seen footage from the Montagu archives, interviews with his family, friends and fellow aristocrats, and personal details from Lord Montagu's own writings to tell the story of his unconventional and often controversial life.

What every documentary should be!

I watch documentaries like most people my age watch reality television, but this documentary was so informative, detailed, amazingly shot, and the main narrator's voice was/is the best, I originally just left a 10 star review, I was not going to leave an actual written review because I'm horrible at them but after watching this documentary 3 more times just to make sure I did not miss anything I am leaving one because not only is Lord Montagu an inspiring man but the sons that made it in into the interview were so embracing of who he was flaws and all they are truly inspiring, and not to mention the rich history of the wonderful home, again I will never do this documentary justice in written form but I strongly encourage everyone to watch it.

Better than the book!!! Yes!!

This is an incredibly sly documentary because you think you're watching one thing (and you are) .......... then it segues into what the man turned his life into! WOW!!

What I like is that there is no judgement when discussing the initial topic. It's facts.

Then the documentary returns to the Palace House and the man becomes one of Britain's most important people in conservatism of all things wonderful!

The tributes from people are endearing. He was a man far ahead of his time.

Please make sure to watch all the credits. There are some lovely photos of the house and grounds and area that you don't want to miss.
